    Salmon Bake
    Ben L.

After the Orca watching from Allen Marine tours, they take you to the Orca Point Lodge for a Salmon Bake. The lodge itself was nice and it was able to accommodate a large group of people. When you get in, the lunch is setup buffet style with an employee at the end of the line to serve you Salmon and chicken. Btw, the staff will warn you not to cross to the other island since water rises quickly and you may be stranded on the other side, so don't do it. The food: Salmon Bake- I was super excited to try Salmon in Alaska but it was kinda a let down for me. I normally like my Salmon raw, so cooked was a bit of a stretch for me but the Salmon here was overcooked and not very appetizing. I have had respectable cooked Salmon dishes before but this Salmon was tough and dry. It's kinda sad that the chicken with the spicy seasoning was so much better than the Salmon, the chicken was shockingly really good. The rice, veg and bread were very generic. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Z51xnWlZrsJFVglkCfItxw&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA

Wonderful place to visit. Had a great meal of salmon and chicken. Super friendly staff. The views are amazing, such a serene place. Wish our excursion to Orca Point Lodge was longer. It was part of an excursion we booked through our ship.

It was an adventure just docking the boat. When we got to the boat dock the wind and rain had picked up quite a bit. They had a hard time getting the boat close to the dock to tie it down. Once they did they wandered if the floating walk to the lodge was safe to walk on. Everyone work at the lodge came out and stationed themselves down the walk to make sure everyone was safe. It was sorta like a carnival ride walking to the lodge. We all made it across with no problems. The buffet was very nice. The salmon was very good and the lodge was warm. The small gift shop had just enough things to spend money on. After lunch it was back to the boat for whale watching. We saw about three whales, a harbor seal and a few bald eagles. It was very rainy and cold but on the boat they had hot chocolate and snacks. It was a very good trip. Highly recommended. Bring a rain coat!

Dale and Honey Bee Anderson, the owners of the gorgeous lake-front property just outside of downtown Juneau, know how to run the perfect B&B. This was my husband's and my first B&B experience, so we were nervous about feeling like we were staying in a stranger's home. This was unnecessary--Dale made us feel like we were a part of the family. He and his extended family run the B&B together, and they really think of everything, from the continental breakfast (Dale was kind enough to even pack us a breakfast/lunch for our day's adventures at our request), down to our room's amenities. They even provide a computer for complimentary Internet access, plus a canoe if you'd like to row out to the middle of the lake for a relaxing picnic! The house is beautiful and very clean. Our room was the gorgeous Lakeside Suite, which afforded us sweeping views of the lake and mountain in the distance. The rate was incredibly reasonable at $135 per night. My husband and I had a fantastic time at the Auke Lake B&B, and we'll certainly be back again!

That is so rare, especially nowadays. And I can't say about the beauty of Pybus Bay and its surroundings. It's literally take-your-breath-away. We had an amazing time on all the excursions, including lots of deep sea fishing, seeing the glacier up close, watching humpback whales and orcas and seal lions and seals, hiking, flyfishing, and more. The food was great! Very tasty, unique, but not too unique, if you know what I mean. And lots of it! The accommodations were superb. I don't know if I've ever stayed anywhere with a better shower! You wouldn't think they would have really hot water and great water pressure at so remote a location, but they did. And I mention that, not just because I like my showers, but because it was emblematic of the attention to detail in every aspect of the experience. In can't recommend Pybus Point Lodge enough!

I can't say enough good things about the Blue Bucket B&B. One of the best stays along my summer…read moretravels. Everything far surpassed my expectations. I really had a nice time and for that, I'm grateful. Although I was visiting Glacier Bay by myself, the house/cabin accommodated up to 5 guests. Bedrooms everywhere, a fully stocked kitchen, multiple bathrooms, an upstairs with more beds...everything totally furnished and best of all (for me) a true rustic and cozy feel like I'm far away from reality into the heart of nature. My bed was soft and comfortable. The shower was spotless with good running hot water and pressure. Robynn, the Host, was an absolute pleasure to get to know. Robynn, I'm serious, was the epitome of welcoming and cordiality. She picked me up from the airport. She dropped me off and returned to Glacier Bay Lodge to pick me up at the end of my Boat Cruise Tour. And, of course, Robynn dropped me back at the airport at the end of it all. Still going, lol, Robynn made wonderful suggestions about where to eat around town, how to navigate my time while exploring and getting the most fulfillment from my stay. There was no stone unturned by Robynn, like she's been in the hospitality industry all her life. In the garage section of the house, were a few bicycles to venture off and wander about Gustavus. I rode a bike for 2 of the days during my stay. The den/living room area had couches and lounge chairs along with a television for entertainment. On the refrigerator were all the necessary phone numbers, maps and info needed. With all fees included, it was significantly less money ($200 per night) for accommodations here at the Blue Bucket and to have my own place...rather than staying at the Glacier Bay Lodge which was $$$$ at $750 per night!!! Finally, just getting to speak with Robynn, learning a little bit about her, who she is, and how she came to have such a charming home here in the "Gateway to Glacier Bay", added to the whole experience of coming to Gustavus. I highly recommend to everyone, especially National Park Enthusiasts out there, you should prioritize staying here at the Blue Bucket B&B and come meet the terrific host, Robynn.
