Blue Bucket B&B - My room. Rustic looking and charming.

I can't say enough good things about the Blue Bucket B&B. One of the best stays along my summer…read moretravels. Everything far surpassed my expectations. I really had a nice time and for that, I'm grateful. Although I was visiting Glacier Bay by myself, the house/cabin accommodated up to 5 guests. Bedrooms everywhere, a fully stocked kitchen, multiple bathrooms, an upstairs with more beds...everything totally furnished and best of all (for me) a true rustic and cozy feel like I'm far away from reality into the heart of nature. My bed was soft and comfortable. The shower was spotless with good running hot water and pressure. Robynn, the Host, was an absolute pleasure to get to know. Robynn, I'm serious, was the epitome of welcoming and cordiality. She picked me up from the airport. She dropped me off and returned to Glacier Bay Lodge to pick me up at the end of my Boat Cruise Tour. And, of course, Robynn dropped me back at the airport at the end of it all. Still going, lol, Robynn made wonderful suggestions about where to eat around town, how to navigate my time while exploring and getting the most fulfillment from my stay. There was no stone unturned by Robynn, like she's been in the hospitality industry all her life. In the garage section of the house, were a few bicycles to venture off and wander about Gustavus. I rode a bike for 2 of the days during my stay. The den/living room area had couches and lounge chairs along with a television for entertainment. On the refrigerator were all the necessary phone numbers, maps and info needed. With all fees included, it was significantly less money ($200 per night) for accommodations here at the Blue Bucket and to have my own place...rather than staying at the Glacier Bay Lodge which was $$$$ at $750 per night!!! Finally, just getting to speak with Robynn, learning a little bit about her, who she is, and how she came to have such a charming home here in the "Gateway to Glacier Bay", added to the whole experience of coming to Gustavus. I highly recommend to everyone, especially National Park Enthusiasts out there, you should prioritize staying here at the Blue Bucket B&B and come meet the terrific host, Robynn.

My first trip to "the last frontier" of America (aka Alaska) began with booking a b & b stay at the…read moreBlue Heron. From the looks of their simple, elegant website, I was expecting a homey stay in a comfortable room. But Deb and Charlie exceeded my expectations in so many ways. Not only was our room cozy, comfy and clean, it had beautiful views of the surrounding 10 acres of property with bright purple fields of fireweeds and the surrounding white-capped Fairweather Mountains. We were also lucky enough to watch a black bear stuff his face with blueberries outside our window while getting ready one morning. The breakfast at Blue Heron reminds you why the B & B route is so much better than a regular old hotel. Fresh rolled oatmeal with the fixin's (dried fruit, almonds, brown sugar), fruit salad (with local berries!), juice, breakfast breads, assorted breakfast meats, and the best damn coffee I've had in quite a while. And that's just before the main course arrives! We had dishes like greek-style scrambled eggs, mixex berry pancakes, made-to-order omelettes and french toast. Delicious and served in the Blue Heron's beautiful sunroom overlooking said scenery. But the best part was that Deb and Charlie gave us room to roam, while ensuring that every part of our trip ran seamlessly. On the phone a few weeks before our trip, Deb asked what activities we'd like to do - I mentioned kayaking, whale watching, checking out glaciers and biking. She booked everything for us and didn't charge a cent for the trip planning service! She was able to rearrange our plans at the last minute so we could whale-watch on our first day, when the whales were especially active, and helped us pick out places for lunch and dinner too. And we got complimentary pick up and drop off at the airport, complete with a quick car-tour of town to point out sights we should bike to in our downtime. And there is a laundry room and a bunch of free bikes available too. We didn't rent a car- we just biked everywhere in town we needed to go. Thanks Deb and Charlie, for making me fall in love with Alaska and the Blue Heron!

And I can't say about the beauty of Pybus Bay and its surroundings. It's literally take-your-breath-away. We had an amazing time on all the excursions, including lots of deep sea fishing, seeing the glacier up close, watching humpback whales and orcas and seal lions and seals, hiking, flyfishing, and more. The food was great! Very tasty, unique, but not too unique, if you know what I mean. And lots of it! The accommodations were superb. I don't know if I've ever stayed anywhere with a better shower! You wouldn't think they would have really hot water and great water pressure at so remote a location, but they did. And I mention that, not just because I like my showers, but because it was emblematic of the attention to detail in every aspect of the experience. In can't recommend Pybus Point Lodge enough!

Captains experienced, and made the fishing awesome. As a female visiting here and only a handful of other women I highly suggest. You don't have to fish everyday. We went up the Tracy arm, saw glaciers and lots of whales and photo opts. Highly recommend!
