My husband and I used Orange Photography for our wedding and we are ecstatic with the results! I am looking forward to completing our wedding album and seeing the finished product. We hired Jack from Orange and he made everyone including my picture hating mother comfortable. He was unobtrusive in our wedding yet was able to capture the important moments. I look forward to using him in the future, perhaps with baby portraits?! read more

First of all, 5 stars for Orange and their website, professionalism, clear pricing structures, and client services manager Kevin. They really know how to work with people. Totally impressed. Second of all, 10 stars for Ryan Anson. I guess I should wait until I get the photos back, BUT Ryan was a total star at our wedding. In addition to putting up with the normal stresses of wedding on a hot Calistoga day, Ryan dealt with kids, multiple locations at the site, timing changes, lack of shade, and flirty single friends of ours with complete professionalism. Ryan was a total rockstar. Always there when we needed him to capture something and with, what's very important to us, a sense of humor about it all. He didn't treat it like "just another wedding...stand here and okay put your hand to your cheek. yawn" instead it was more of, "okay bride, if you want to milk the cow sculpture in your wedding gown, i'll shoot that!" He got all the shots done that we mentioned were important, but also kept an eye out. He made it fun instead of another task to get done. Can't wait to update on the shots themselves! :) read more

Gene X. of Orange Photography is one of the most talented photographers I know. Not only can he photograph weddings, events, and body builders well, but he's also captured beautiful landscapes on Treasure Island, as well as cool sunsets in SF. But most of all, I love the photo booths that Gene sets-up for friends' birthday parties and events. A lot of us have fallen in love with these photo booths and always look forward to parties where they're present. The backdrops are always different and unique, and you can take photos of yourself and friends (with props) throughout the course of a party, only to appear during the party on a big white screen, and later on social networking sites. :) If you're ever looking for a fun way to capture a party, I recommend both Gene X himself, as well as a photo booth-set up. I would also recommend either Gene or Jack for any wedding or special event. And as Tinna H. said, they're the only green photography studio in SF! read more

They took photos for the Yelp Holiday Party at the Exploratorium. The picture they took of my best friend and I in front of the Twister board was so fun and flattering. I loved this photo idea! More importantly when I was able to submit my email on the website to be informed when the album was put up to be viewed. The first time I was informed that it was ready, the link didn't work. I replied to the email asking about this and got a quick response, from Gene X Hwang (founder/Orange Photography), with a link correction and a nice, short apology ( wasn't even necessary but still nice customer service). Gene was so friendly and helpful with my inquiries. I would definitely use this photography company if I had an event. Thanks Gene and Orange Photography for a beautiful, fun memory of Yelp Pley Holiday Party 2008. J and I had a "blasty blast!" read more

Jack and Gene of Orange Photography are some top notch individuals to work with AND to party with! And based on their growing portfolio, the overall team is comprised of some very unique and strong photography professionals. I am particularly a fan of their photo booth set-ups and their wedding portfolio! Very creative and fun. And have you heard? They have a Social Photography program, which allows them to give back to the community by offering their photography to organizations that rarely have photography in their budget. Qualifying charity/non-profits are selected, and Orange Photography comes out to document. Sign-ups are easy and on their webpage! Also, to add a little lime to the top of this orange pile, their office is GREEN GREEN GREEN. I recall a tweet not too long ago re: softest green toilet paper out there. Not only do they care about the environment, but they also care about your comfort! I hope they were able to find it! read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Orange Photography yet. In my modest life as a San Franciscan, the experiences I've had with Orange rivals that of Yelp in helping me discover and meet new people in this fair city. While their photography is superb (I mean, really superb - "I want them for my wedding that's not going to happen" superb), Gene and Jack's events really bring a diverse crowd together. I say it all the time: there's no party like an Orange Photography party... Well, maybe a Yelp party. (I still love you, Yelp!) read more

Not only did I use the Orange team for images for work, but I called them to handle my wedding photography. I was my own wedding planner, as I've been planning events for years, and knew they were up to the task. I'd seen Gene X's portfolio online, and loved his artistic, photo journalistic style. They were very easy to work with on the day of the wedding, and I don't think I noticed they were there, other than for the few posed shots that I needed them to take for the family. What was captured to film was exactly what I had hoped to have, a collection of moments, some that I would never have seen had it not been for Gene and his second shooter. They caught a lot of the details which I'd specifically asked for, to help me build out my event portfolio, and captured those special moments where you can truly see the emotions of the people involved. After the event, I was surprised by how quickly the online album was made available to us, and how much thought and effort went into this as well. The final printed album turned out beautifully, and captured the flow of the event exactly as we had hoped. I highly recommend them to be there for your big day. read more

I do not enjoy giving two star reviews, however, in this case, I have "experienced better." The party I recently attended had Orange Photography set up outside, at sunset, facing the Bay Bridge. It was a beautiful scene and I looked forward to having my picture taken with such a perfect backdrop. Unfortunately, the photographers couldn't figure out how to take a photograph with the lighting directed to our smiling faces AND capture the Bay Bridge at the same time. If this was a technical challenge, then they should have had the foresight to set up in a completely different location. It was a bit of false expectations and based on what I overheard, I was not the only one disappointed that the resulting photograph which while is a lovely photo of myself with friends, it looks as though we are standing in front of a black wall. Nothing special about that. read more

When it came time to book a wedding photographer, there was no question that we were hiring Orange -- there was never any question. Gene is a friend of mine, but even if he weren't, I have enormous respect for the team's collective talent. (This isn't me being nice -- you only have to check out their website to see evidence of that talent!) For City Hall weddings, it's about $350/hr, which includes post-processing, digital files, and a CD of your images. We decided on 3 locations: City Hall, the Golden Gate Park carousel, and the 16th Ave steps. Given that neither of us had ever had professional photos taken before (unless Sears Portrait Studio counts, and I don't think they do), we really had no idea what we were doing. The Orange team guided us through the process, told us what to expect, and made the payment process easy. Natalie and Jessica were friendly, prompt, and very informative -- they answered all of our questions and kept the ball rolling. On the big day, Gene and Billy took photos at City Hall, and Gene finished up at the carousel and steps. It was smooth, easy, and relaxed. (Although I have to say, being told to kiss Adam so much cracked me up. I felt like a little kid was playing with Barbies: NOW KISS! *mashes faces together*) We got our photos back in three weeks, and they're beautiful! (As someone extremely not photogenic, I was going to be happy if there were two photos of myself that I liked. There were far more. Now that is talent!) We're thrilled with the finished product, and will not hesitate to recommend to friends/go back to Orange next time we want professional photos taken. read more

I have worked with a few photographers, and was fortunate to work with Gene of Orange Photography as one of my "firsts". Having a good picture taken of yourself depends not only on the artistic skill of the photographer, but also on the ability of the photographer to put the subject at ease. For those of us who are a little shy of the lens, it helps having a personable photographer to bring out the best in you! Gene is very easy-going, friendly, funny and stylish! Gene is very skilled in capturing a variety of styles: edgy, portrait, artistic, and so on. He is also very skilled in manipulating both indoor and outdoor lighting, filters, angles, and depth to achieve an endless perspective on a particular moment. I can't wait for my next opportunity to work with Gene! read more

LOVE! Gene did my wedding in October and he is the best. My plan for my wedding was to throw the most kickass party ever, where we also happened to get married. Done and done. But sometimes when a party is awesome, the photos don't really capture it, but this was thankfully not the case! I think my wedding actually ended up looking more awesome on film. Gene captured the whole thing from the sweet sensitive parts to the party down moments. He is cool and manages to be everywhere at all times but yet totally unobtrusive. I think someone else said he is a photo ninja and that is true. The only changes I would make were that since my wedding was not super traditional, I didn't do a million posed photos beforehand, and I didn't end up with any solo shots of myself. I am not really a "solo shot of myself" person, but in retrospect, you spend a lot of effort and time to look a certain way on that day, and it would have been nice to have one or two shots. I didn't think of this until recently and I'm sure if I would have suggested it it would have been done. Price-wise, you CAN get photos done for cheaper, (even though my budget was not large) but with Gene you are paying for his talent, cool artistic aesthetic and sense of style, which varies with each photographer you will ever work with. Gene and Orange are also very philanthropic and I know they have done events for low or no cost for nonprofits, so I am happy to support talented artists who have solid business practices and really deliver on their product. read more

Also have to give a shout out to Andria, who is the lovely gal we worked with on the wedding album. Being as hubs and I don't have the most artistic eyes, we pretty much just handed over the entire project to Andria, with the sole instruction that "we trust your expertise." She got the layout done in just a few weeks, and our album is freaking sweet. You'll love working with her. Thanks, everyone at Orange! read more

My husband and I hired Gene for our wedding in October 2010. He was great to work with, and we loved all of our wedding pictures. He was very professional and he knows how to take great pictures. Our wedding pictures were available online less than a week after our wedding and we're very happy and satisfied with how they turned out. We received a lot of compliments from our friends and families regarding the pictures, so THANK YOU Gene =) We also hired Gene to take our engagement pictures and they turned out great too. Overall, Gene is great, our pictures turned great, and we highly recommend him! read more

I found Orange at my last job when we needed an event photographer. We used them the year after, as well, and had great pictures. Gene is great--totally laid back, creative and makes you feel like you KNOW your pics are going to come out great. When my new company (a startup) needed head shots of the exec team, I didn't think twice about who to hire. Gene came to the office and did his magic again. The pics came out great, and we have some unique shots (and some funny ones, too) that we love! I hope to hire Gene for my wedding....whenever that is ;-) read more

Amazing! My husband and I worked with principal photographer, Jack Huynh and let me tell you despite the high expectations I had based on this past work, he far succeeded them. People have told me that they are the best professional wedding photos they've ever seen and I would have to agree. Jack captured the essence of each person and each moment so well that I know our wedding photos will take me back to that day every time I look at them. So not only were the photos great, but there are two other important points I must make: 1) Jack was not only fun-spirited and a great addition to the wedding day, but there were times during the ceremony and reception that I forgot he was there. He got creative shots from every angle and also took lots of photos of our guests, which I love. 2) Jack and Kevin worked with my fiance...err husband :) and I on pricing so we got exactly what we wanted for a price that stayed within our budget. read more

Words cannot express our joy over the photo memories of our wedding. (They say that pictures are worth a thousand words...as far as our photos, they almost leave you speechless.) Jack Huynh is a genius and sweetest person, too! We're busy working on our album...and it's not easy to choose! He fulfilled our fondest hopes. Comments about the photo slideshow: "I am teary eyed!" "I've watched it ten times in a row!" "Wow!!!!" "I couldn't help by cry...tears of joy, of course!" "Artistic and romantic...you guys must be pleased." "Who was your photographer?!" Orange you glad you heard about them? You will be --guaranteed! read more

Orange photos are spectacular. Not unexpectedly, but when spectacular art smacks into your retinas it's a surprise even when it's not a surprise. The images we got blow our wedding photos put of the water. It's not even a fair comparison. I wish I could claim that the Mr and I don't derp with wild abandon whenever a lens is within a half-mile radius, but these shots make that claim unnecessary. Gene captured those magic nanoseconds when we were non-awkward: magnifying the swank, amplifying the awesome, cranking the sexy up to eleven. BAM! Glam & glossy as fk. read more

I can't say enough great things about Orange Photography. The pre-purchase service was informative and flexible, with great follow-up (thanks, Kat!). The handoff to our producer, Shannon, was seamless. She was very detailed and open to answering any of our questions. Katelyn & Billy did STUNNING work. We're so happy with our wedding photos that captured our true selves - and our fun guests. We also truly just enjoyed them as individuals! They made us feel so comfortable and added to all of the great memories we have of the day. Katelyn was also instrumental in helping us decide lighting choices for our outdoor ceremony - which turned out to be perfect and enchanting. She was available via email and text and open to ANY questions we had. I never would've expected a photographer to be so open to being involved. If you're looking for a photographer, I highly recommend working with Orange Photography. You won't be disappointed - and you'll receive a truly high-quality experience from start to finish. Special shout out to Gene - you're a rockstar for so many reasons! read more

I was a company holiday party that used their photograph service. They take great photos but very unorganized. The lineup to obtain the photo was a 45min wait. Once we got to the front, they told us we could only get email version of the photos. Not a big deal but the size of the photo is only 25Kb which mean you can't even print them out on your own. A few things you can do to improve: 1. Everyone is waiting for the photo, why not just print them out instead of having us scan through the ipad for 5min trying to find our pictures 2. Give everyone a number so that they can find their set of prints without scanning. 3. Don't tell us that we can get the pictures online only to find out we have to pay $25 for each digital copy. 4. Cut the line off when you don't think you can help us anymore instead of us coming to the front then letting us know we can't get a copy because it is getting late. 5. If you're going to let us email the photo, give us a decent size of the photo. Update: Gene from Orange Photography contacted me and provided the high res photos. Also, explained the situation of the event. Just hope they improve the process. Updated the rating. read more

We were referred to Orange Photography for stills by our campus's outstanding filming crew and we were NOT disappointed. Katelyn T. is a rockstar. In all my nearly 10 years managing and working corporate events, I've never had such a professional, prompt, friendly, and fun photographer turn out such great shots, day in and day out. She captured everything we wanted and needed--and then some--with spectacular eye with a keen sense for capturing folks looking their best. Of our 150-person summit, I've literally had tens of people asking who shot the event because she was that good. Karen J. was our producer and she a pleasure to work with--creative, efficient, and helpful. Roger H. was our photo booth tech and Justin V. his assistant, and they were communicative, timely, and did a great job encouraging our usually camera-shy leadership to get in there and have some fun. Co-Founders Jack and Gene are both still feet-on-the-ground, quick to reply, and wonderfully accommodating. Book in with them immediately. You'll be glad you did. read more

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then fortune is on your side when Orange Photography is behind the camera. There are days when I review photos of my fleeting youth before Corporate America and I remember what it was like to feel like a child again. Those days seem to grow more distant until I discover the power of Orange Photography. What I love about Gene is his ability to find out the "real" you and capture that in each shot. Every photo depicts the many layers of my personality which I found surprising. At Orange Photography, you don't have to be photogenic to be beautiful. For those who are camera shy, each photo portrays the different aspects of an individual. I highly recommend Orange Photography for the detail to aesthetics, the promptness with online access and many thanks to Gene for capturing the amazing moments in my life. read more

This review is long over due, my husband and I had a small civil ceremony at SF city hall nearly one year ago. Since most of our friends and family could not attend we really wanted to make sure we had photos to capture the event but had a very limited budget. The team at Orange was absolutely amazing; they let us view several of their photographer's on line portfolios, we ended up going with Nikki. We liked her mix of classical and playful photos. Nikki interviewed us a few weeks before the big day to get an idea of our style and what elements we wanted her to capture for our wedding. After our meeting she went to city hall to scope out the venue so that on the day of our wedding she new exactly where to go to take pictures that looked timeless and highlighted the beautiful architecture . Nikki managed to make the most of our time without ever making us feel rushed. My friends and family still can not believe the number of photos she took in just 2 hours! After the wedding the images were available to view on line in 5 weeks and 6 months later Andria contacted us to mail out the disc of digital negatives. Thank you to everyone at Orange for creating such an easy and positive experience and for giving us such beautiful, elegant photos that we can cherish forever! read more

I recently had one Mr. Gene X. print a portrait for me because I was going to give it away as a gift. He ended up getting me two prints and reworked the colors for the differing papers so that they would be as fantastic as possible. Let's just say there is a reason that my new spouse and I shared our first sips of Dom P. on our wedding day with Gene X. from Orange and our wedding coordinator, Kathryn Kalabokes from Dream a Little Dream--they're f*cking kickass people who helped make the day unforgettable and beautiful. I echo the rest of the Yelpers in their ecstatic support of Orange Photography. One of our priorities for the wedding was a good photographer and we got that TENFOLD with Orange and Mr. Gene X Hwang. His creativity, flexibility, ninja skills and all around sparkling talent were exactly what we were looking for and received. I know weddings are not his normal gig, but that's a good thing because his shots were not hackneyed but artful and fresh. I lerv him so much I want to set him up with random women I know and I barely know him. If he can put up with my attention starved niece and hiking around Mill Valley in scorching weather for a few good shots on the day of the wedding, I'd set him up with my Mom if he was interested. Okay, well, maybe my husband's (did I just say "husband" without feeling awkward?) mom because she's much hotter than mine... I'm more than happy to personally vouch for Orange. If you want to see my wedding album, just send me a PM! read more

Orange did a fantastic job with our high school's 25th reunion! What sold me on them initially was really the diversity of clients and communities in their gallery. It's not that easy to find photographers who can shoot a range of events and not have them come off looking like iStock material. A friend had recommended I contact Andria and she was extremely helpful, professional, and organized. I felt very reassured that we were in good hands all along the way. Myleen did a fantastic job capturing the energy and spirit of our class reunion--people are still talking about the great photos! read more

I've worked with Orange for several years - first as photographers for large corporate events. They were the utmost professional people - from sales to photography. They produced outstanding photos of the evening and handled the events with impressive professionalism. They always did a great job in capturing the essence of my events: decor, food, guests, silly moments - you name it. Naturally when it came time to select a photography company for my wedding, there was no contest. Gene was the man. We enjoyed working with him on the photo planning side, and on the day of, he was relaxed, funny, fun to be around, and brought out the best of us - and then captured it on camera! We have an album full of photos exactly as we want to remember our wedding day. On the back end, Andria was great with the album. Her expert artistic, visual and layout skills are top notch. She was flexible to accomodate a meeting around our busy schedule and quick with turnaround of the proofs, edits, and then the final album. Coordinating the album was a really seamless process. Thanks, Orange, for another fantastic experience! read more

The last two years of working with Gene X. Hwang from ORANGE PHOTOGRAPHY has been FANTASTIC!!! Updating this review because I got my photos from Andria a week or two ago. They brought tears to my eyes as I played the sweet slideshow (accompanied with our first dance song!) Andria had created. Since we eloped, it was really important for my husband and I to capture those moments and be able to share the images with our friends and family. Andria did a really amzaing job snapping traditional type wedding photos and then playful, funky, artistic ones. We've never been to Napa Valley and I told her to "just find some great backgrounds" and she totally aced it. Thanks Andria!!! I am so happy to have worked with you!!! read more

I've seen the creative talent of Orange Photography and especially Gene Hwang before and have always been impressed. When my partner and I recently decided to have a last minute wedding ceremony at City Hall in San Francisco, Gene was the first person we called. We couldn't imagine anyone else capturing the spontaneity of our day with careful attention and honesty like Gene. He was available and even there before we were! He captured the emotion of our experience so much that every time I look through the images I cry as if I were there again. What an amazing gift to be able to relive the most magical day of my life with meaningful and stunning pictures for years to come. Thanks Gene! read more

I have used these guys and been to events where they shot. They always come through with attractive photos and friendly attitudes.

Haven't met the rest of the Orange staff, but Gene is always floating around the pinball community and events snapping shots. I've always enjoyed the candid and casual composition of Gene's work. Obviously, if you ask him to take a picture, he will, but often he's just taking shots here and there of various people, and random neat things. Some shots are clearly well thought out and well framed, while others are just spur of the moment snaps that often come out as some of my favorites. read more
