Riddle me this: How do I arrive to work 30 minutes late when I only have a 15 minute commute? A: The Orange Line! Today's disabled train incident was the WORST. The announcer said "We'll be standing by due to a disabled train ahead." every 60 seconds (for 15 minutes) in the same tone. It was like a broken record from HELL. I'm honestly calling my Dr. about a Xanax prescription on my lunch break. read more

Who farted? I live and work off the orange line so I pretty much love to hate it. For the most part these trains get me where I need to go (the office, the club, rehab, etc) but there are definitely some improvements that could be made. Some mornings I find myself waiting in the cold during rush hour for trains that never seem to come the direction I need to go - and when one finally does - it's PACKED. Sorry, I won't sit on a crazy's lap thank you. Speaking of crazies. People need to wear deodorant, not eat fast food in poorly ventilated train cars, and not treat the floor like a toilet or trash can. But at the end of the day at least this isn't the green line. read more

As a visitor to Beantown, I would take the OrangeLine in from the suburbs north of town. I was quite pleased with the schedule, cleanliness, and overall with the Orange Line. I have been on much dirtier mass transit trains like the NYC Subway and equivalently nice stuff like the SF BART. The station spacing was good, the proximity to the freeways outside of Boston itself really helped as well. I am sure that this line gets a ton of use during the school year as several schools (perhaps JCs but i am not sure) were not far from stops. I like that most of the major transfer points are subterranean thus eliminating super bad weather while waiting for transfers. However the platforms outside of Boston seemed like they would be frigid and subject to some seriously bad weather. The cost is not astronomical either which really helps. I especially like that younger kids are free where as many other transit systems charge for the kids. I will agree that the stations could use a super strong power wash or three... but otherwise I enjoyed this line. It definitely got me where I wanted/needed to go without any issues. read more

I don't understand all the hate for the orange line! Although the red line is arguably the best (cleanest) line on the system, I've always found the orange line to be pretty reliable. I used to take the thing everyday to and from Malden- that's a hike- and, for the most part, it wasn't too bad. The orange line also has some of the better stations- they are less likely to smell like pee than say the green line (exception: Mass Ave Station, which is always a little dodgy) And Jennifer B. hits it right on the nose: "Yes, it's not full of yuppies from Cambridge, but welcome to the real city, folks." There are definitely less honkies on the orange line- but, dudes, get over it. I've spent many an hour on the orange line with no problems, which is saying something. read more

If you want to take to see "Depression: a train story", hop on the Orange line. I will give it its one due compliment - it is pretty reliable and it gets me to work in about 20 minutes - but, honestly, outside of the winter, I go out of my way to either walk the 4 miles to and from work, or at least the 15 walk to the E line. It is that bad. Riding the Orange line makes me tense. In the morning, its crowded, and thats when, I find anyway, the worst of the drunks and the craziest of the crazys are on board. I'm sorry, but I dont enjoy drunk and or drugged up, filthy people almost falling over in my lap at 9 am when I'm just trying to get to work. I also dont like getting yelled at for sitting there minding my own business by people with few teeth and who smell like a year's worth of newport butts in a human ashtray. On the other side of ridership - the jerks. I cant count the number of able bodied, seated people I've seen look at a pregnant woman, a person with a disability, or an elder and then look quickly back at whatever "I'm smart" crap they are reading. Awful. Ditto, of the characteristics of ridership listed above, when it comes to navigating themselves on the T platforms. God Forbid anyone yeild to anyone else, or attempt to maintain some kind of two way foot traffic. Smells. The Orange Line T smells like piss in the morning, and piss+sulfer+wet french fries+something dead and decomposing in the evening. And finally, customer service. Thats got to be a punchline, right? There isnt any. There are a lot of people who get paid to roll their eyes at you should you actually ask them a question - and trust me, when they do get off the phone to "help" you, they will accuse you of doing whatever you are complaining about - ie, indicating that you are stupid because they are grossly incompetent. AWFUL. MISERABLE. AVOID AVOID AVOID read more

Here's a little known fun fact of public transportation arcana with which to impress friends and family - When speaking of the MBTA as "America's first subway", people are usually referring to the Tremont Street Subway, an early precursor to the Green Line, built in 1897. What few people know is that the true origins of the T extend back almost two centuries from that august year, to a small series of what were basically wooden covered trenches forming a circuit between the North End, Quincy Market, and Copley. These tunnels were used to ferry goods, and eventually workers, around Boston, and was named the Orange Line in commemoration of the Glorious Revolution and ascension of William III, Prince of Orange, to the British throne in 1688. The tunnels fell into disrepair in the early 18th century, and were eventually filled in, lost to time and memory. Good stuff, that, yeah? read more

I sometimes wonder what hell is like until I realize it really can't be worse than the orange line. I can run faster from malden to boston than the orange line can on a good day and I'm not an elite runner. The smells The broken doors The broken heat The broken ac The crowds The lack of a train all too often Signal problems (I thought the orange line just got new signals) Traffic problems - can't have traffic when there's no train The rude mbta employes The rude passengers The guy who hasn't showered in months with a beer can at 8 am And let's not the forget the useless assembly square staton being built that's creating delays and shuttles? Sure, those doors may slam in your face (happened to me today). The orange line is fast because - guess what? They don't wait for everyone. You're going to wait for the next train and let the schedule run its course. There may be crowd of people that you may or may not be comfortable with, but that's what I love about the orange line.. You got the crazies, the medical folks in scrubs, business suits, the students, normal day people like you and me..and we're all taking the same train. That's something that Boston forgets and leaves behind. We're on the same train. Think it's ghetto? Because there's a ghetto there that the city hasn't cleaned up. Think it smells? Too much money was diverted to red and blue line (what the tourists use). The orange line gets a bad rep for good reasons, but it's being neglected for the bad reasons. This line is fast (granted, you may get yelled at), incredibly convenient, and it's a damn shame that people don't care to make it better. read more

Oh Orange Line - why must you run the places I need to be? You smell like pee. You have the scariest of passengers. You are sticky in strange places. You make a girl feel violated just for entering you....wait, what? Learning the T system was interesting when I moved to Boston. The colors were easy, the Inbound vs. Outbound when in the heart of the city was a little trickier. But the "Oh hey! The train is packed but there is a random seat open! SWEET!" .... "ohh...THAT'S why this seat was open. FML!" Took a little longer to sink in. The Orange Line is rarely on schedule, is always a little bit of a fright ride and makes you appreciate owning a car despite horrid traffic. Thank God Kirs and Merri chimed in to represent. Y'all are haters. The Orange Line is the Orange Line. It's not the Green or the Silver or the freaking Red - it's the Orange. I live two blocks from Back Bay Station and consistently ride South (oohhhhh) all the way to Forest Hills (yes, folks even Forest Hills). Never had anything distressing, violent, etc. happening to me. Actually, I think I've gotten more laughs than scares. Sounds to me as if Heather H. is the only one with a reason to stay away. If you still don't believe me...try it. Get on at Mass Ave and take a little ride. If something 'dangerous' happens, holla at me. If you get mugged, I'll double your money back. And turn off the news. read more

I've ridden the orange line now, regularly, as a commuter, for about a year, so I have a pretty good sample size. Here's my list of points: -It smells. Not sure if they ever clean this line, but it always stinks. -Inbound in the morning, during the peak 7:30-8:30 time frame, if you don't get on at Oak Grove, or Malden Center, forget about it, you're not getting on. By Wellington, and certainly by Sullivan Sq, dozens of people are just left on the platform, waiting for the next train. -They simply don't run enough trains to keep up with with the crowds. There should be more trains during rush hour. Because of the lack of trains, we get...... -Overcrowded trains. People squeeze in, every inch of space is taken. The result, it takes twice as long at every stop, because the people left that can't get on, some try to anyway, so the doors can't close. Because they don't run enough trains, it takes longer at each stop, and that then creates..... -Delays. Delays are just part of the ride. You won't ride the orange line without a delay. It's just fact. Broken train, traffic ahead, schedule adjustment, signaling problem, whatever, it's always something, every single ride. I could really go on and on, but those are the major points. Overcrowded trains, not enough trains at the important times, broken A/C in the summer, broken trains almost daily, delays, the smell, the waiting.... It's just not the best way to get into the city. I wish I had something good to say, but when prices continue to go up, and the service level continues to go down, even the cost can't be a positive point. read more

I've found prophylactics stuck to my shoe on more than one occasion. Orange line.. you should be able to screen people before they board your trains. My main complaint isn't really about the line really.. but the people that take it. The line itself is pretty reliable. I was regularly taking it when I worked in the South End and again when I had music lessons out by Forest Hills. The train was only delayed twice or thrice during those time periods. The crazies however.. that's what keeps me away.. or coming back when I need inspiration. lol When riding from Forest Hills to Downtown Crossing, I had to get off one car and get onto another THRICE (yeah.. I used it again). I guess that's what I get for wearing a flower in my hair and my dang baby face. I've had people speak to me in Spanish and Italian.. the dim lights must make my ethnicity morph. I had a guy tell me he loved my voice and that we should go back to his apartment to record "some stuff". Err.. no? And I can't forget the guy who asked "how much?" Like many things in Boston.. sometimes the con and pro list weight the same. read more

Oh please, get over it. The orange line is fine. Yes, it's not full of yuppies from Cambridge, but welcome to the real city, folks. It does come a little less frequently than the Red Line, but compared to, say, the green line (um, trolleys?!?!? WTF--it's the 21st century), the blue line, or the silver "line" (only in Boston could someone promise poor people a subway line, start running a bus and pat themselves on the back), it's a model of efficiency. Plus, at least now it's air-conditioned. The T in general is an embarrassment, but the orange line is certainly not the crux of the problem. read more

This line for some reason always has this smell of rotten eggs on it. I don't smell it on the Blue, Green or Red lines but only the Orange line which is weird. Occasionally of course you'll have the Mcnasties who come on the other lines and stink it up but it's always prevalent on these trains for something reason. I like this line though don't get me wrong because the seats have quasi-cushioning on it which makes it somewhat comfortable (compared to the other lines) but that in itself could pose a potential risk of nasty people putting their nasty bodily fluids on them and then it soaks in there for who knows how long. read more

I love the Orange Line. The trains are usually on time, and if you miss one, there is another one coming very soon. There are rarely times when I cannot find a sitting spot. It only gets annoying when tons of teenagers occupy the trains, I cannot stand the giggling and "and then she said, and then he said, and I was like...." But other than that, the Orange Line is awesome, especially when you compare it to other lines (for instance the Green Line... the horror). I take the Orange Line to school every day (I study at Northeaster, and no, I don't wear Uggs). People are of wide variety, I don't see them as sketchy or crazy. Just because people don't remind typical white middle class American yuppie, does not mean they are sketchy :D I enjoy seeing different people on the T. This is how urban population looks like. If you don't like it, move to the suburbs. read more

I've got to stick up for the O-line here. I'm not saying it's spectacular. But of the major T lines (not including blue, b/c I'm not familiar enough with it, and it has such a limited span), it is without question the fastest and most reliable of the lines. I used to live on the Red, and have taken the Green more than any reasonable human being should have to bear. I live on the orange now, and while it can be annoying at times, it's the best, hands down. The red line, once a bastion of the latest-and-greatest trains and best service, it became a complete and utter joke somewhere in the past 7 years or so. It takes the same amount of time to go half the distance as on the orange line. It stops constantly between stops, without explanation. Just stops. Like, "Oh, hey. We just went ten feet. Let's stop. Oh, here we go again. Nope! Just kidding. Stop again." Why? I just don't get it. The green line? Jesus. Just walk. Seriously. It's like someone got up one day and said, "Hey! I've got a great idea! Let's take everything bad about public transportation, and everything bad about having to compete with traffic, and let's put them together into one horrifyingly inconvenient mode of transportation. We'll call it... the GREEN line." The orange line? Usually pretty quick, and reliable. Weekends and nights you might wait a bit. But otherwise, good stuff. Okay. The one caveat, and big complaint I have is something that the T has no control over: It's people treating it like it's their living room, talking full volume--even yelling--on their phones, and listening to their music so loudly, or worse yet, without headphones at all (because honestly, EVERYone wants to hear your crappy, tinny-sounding music coming out of your little phone there). But hey. That has nothing to do with the MBTA. read more

Many good things come in orange; oranges, orange juice, mangoes, carrots, OJ, Tang, Orange jello, pumpkins, habanero peppers, squash, kumquats, Cheetos, Doritos, Sherbert, Velveeta, ... well maybe not velveeta, but I have to add the Orange line to the list. Reasons: Ridiculously quick for my commute. I get from Winter Hill to Longwood in 40 minutes in the morning, and if i catch it right in the evening as well. Most of the time ends up being waiting for my connecting bus. It goes from white suburbia to black suburbia and hits all the multi-colored neighborhoods in between. You can seriously get anywhere in the city via connecting bus or T line off the orange, or commuter rail. Many of the buses travel longer distances across the hub and I think all the Crosstowns stop somewhere on the Orange line. No cockroaches... ya Blue line i'm talking about you. Although I haven't seen any in the new cars None of the stupid delay problems of the Red line, and none of the stupid college kids running into derailed trains on the Green line. It's very regular and even waiting late at night for one of the last trains in or out I'm never like "OMFG the world stopped and I'm never going to see a traaaain" So ya, YaY Orange line, you don't stink as bad as you used to! Today on a packed train, I witnessed a girl complain about how a passenger on her last train was "inconsiderate". The girl complained about this other passenger on her phone, at the top of her lungs, with expletives and fat-shaming expressions. There's something about Orange that makes people lose all sense of self awareness. Meth, probably. Add in fritzy HVAC, frequent delays, utilitarian barebone stations, poor winter performance, serious rush hour over-crowding, indiscernible audio announcements, regular door failures, constant route substitutions by bus, and beyond-ugly old cars and... well... it's public transit. If you're not in a hurry, it's not winter, and it's not rush hour, the Orange Line is a great option for getting downtown without driving and paying exorbitant weekday parking fees. It's usually clean for a subway and usually doesn't smell like urine or feces. It's tough to rate and review something that some people have no choice but to take. It's not like a restaurant, where I can say something about it sucks, and people have a choice to use another subway line. I mean, you can take the bus, or walk, or cab it, but that's not entirely realistic in many situations. My gripes with the orange line are nothing new: filthy trains, crazy people and that lingering ghetto feeling. Every time without fail, whenever I have to ride the orange line, I come home feeling the need to take a long, hot shower, to wash off the feeling of being oggled for the entire ride, not to mention the actual dirt. read more

Occasionally reliable Frequently packed In need of more trains Inactive north of Boston most weekends ALL OF THE ABOVE Every Saturday and Sunday for the last month I have become familiar to the following announcement "North Station will be the last stop on this train. Riders going north of North Station, please exit at Haymarket and go out to the shuttle buses" If you are going to have us take buses all the time anyway, why even have a train? Oh that's right, you don't! And for all the "construction and repairs" they are doing north of Boston, I have yet to see a single improvement. read more

I've lived off the orange line for nearly 2 years, and I have to disagree with the comments about the "crazies" and how scary the line is. Since the line serves the areas in and around Boston that aren't strictly college kids or business-types, all different-looking people ride the orange line. I've never encountered any potentially dangerous situations, nor have I ever felt unsafe riding the T, even the last ones of the night. The orange line goes to really sweet places and the trains come more frequently than green lines trains do. It does kinda suck that most of the stations are outdoors. read more

I've had some really bad commutes in my day but this one today takes the cake. Waited for AN HOUR in the freezing cold Chinatown station for the damn train. That's right....1 HOUR. & it was 3pm....not even rush hour! Well, needless to say the train pulls in & it's sardine time. Then they announce that there will be shuttle busses from sullivan. Great. We finally get to sullivan & it takes 20 MINS to get off the train & down to the shuttlebusses. Hundreds of people pushing & shoving...MADNESS. OF COURSE THERE ARE 2 BUSSES TO ACCOMMODATE A FEW HUNDRED COLD PISSED OFF COMMUTERS. I could go on & on but I'll sum it up by saying my usual 45 min commute took 2 and a half hours. If the mbta can't provide the service that we all pay WAY too much for they should just shut down for the day. I mean it's a freaking snow emergency for Christ's sake. Fuck the mbta. Seriously. FUCK EM. read more

The orange line is like a District Politician, a necessary evil. I can't get to the green line that easy in the South End, so I must take this line, by default it's my MBTA representative. Is it unsafe? Not really, but it can make you a big squeamish or uneasy. My suggestions is to wear headphones, read a book, and just don't make eye contact with the crazies. My favorite is the drunk guy drinking an open bottle of beer on the train during rush hour on a Friday, telling everyone "Don't get Old!" Like that is even possible. LOL read more

I love how all summer, this MBTA operated for the most part, pretty well. As soon as school is in session - these knuckle-head "masterminds" begin to do BOATLOADS, and I mean BOATLOADS of tax payer-funded work on Forest Hills, a pretty big hub of passengers. What's happening now is nothing short of wasted funds, unexplained train fare hikes and long waits and increased passengers. Why is there STILL a track out of service at Forest Hills?! It's been months! When is the parking area EVER gonna get finished? Oh yeah - where the [bleep] did the canopy outside go?! "Let's expose all bus passengers waiting for a bus to all elements, heat, rain, snow and the cold; to improve their experience?" Right - overpaid and underworked morons. Good job. End rant. read more

There are a variety of ways to get transportation in this city, but I count on the Orange line to provide my daily share of musical chairs. No matter how crowded the train is, no matter how many people are bustling through the doors, riders will always try to sit every other seat. Sometimes it almost works too, when traffic is light enough, until there's that one person who breaks the pattern and inflicts his behind on two new, unsuspecting neighbors who thought they had it good. Don't be that person. And if you're an unlucky neighbor and a block of three seats opens up before your very eyes, no one will judge you for a making a mad dash for it. Ah, Bostonians. I take the Orange Line everyday. I used to Red Line everyday. The Red Line makes the Orange Line look like a jet engined supertrain! The Red Line is always late, always breaks and always stops inexplicably between stations. It is the most stressful experience. It made me late for work so many times I used to build in a 45min cushion into my commute, just in case. The Orange Line is a breeze, quick, reliable, all you need. To those people complaining about people on the train - its called public transport for a reason - the public uses it. If you don't want to deal with other human beings go live in a cave, or sit in traffic for hours, or pay all your salary in gas, or spend all your time looking for parking. read more

In a memo sent to drivers last week, Keolis reinforced that message, directing drivers to allow passengers without face masks to board buses, despite state law: "This memorandum is to remind all of our employees that everybody in Los Angeles County must use a face covering when in public or around people from other households. However, the enforcement of this mandate is not the driver's responsibility. Foothill Transit has directed both contractors that 'we will not deny service to customers without a face covering' or not wearing the face covering correctly." The company fired driver Kessel Davis after she called dispatch about the problem passenger who refused to put on his mark before boarding her bus. Kessel said she took the action to protect herself and everyone on her bus. Kessel says that very few of the busses in her yard -- maybe 10 out of the 200 buses -- have partitions separating drivers from the passengers. She did note that while buses have been outfitted with chains to separate drivers from passengers, oftentimes passengers simply bypass the chains. Of the 250 drivers in her yard, she believes that at least four of them and one manager have contracted COVID-19. When I just called and asked why they did this AGAIN? The response from the representative was hysterical & infuriating. I was told the routes that include my normal stop was an inconvenience to the driver of the shuttle bus! The orange line needs drastic improvements and an increase in the level of service it provides for morning and evening rush-hour during the work week. The MBTA has a long way to go toward convincing it's customers that they've done all they can to ascertain the funds and man-power necessary to repair and improve it's service to its patrons. If lobbyists in Washington can get there way---can get the funds they need to facilitate improvements for their constituents, then why can't the "MBTA," --- instead of blaming the economy, the public and making changes in the wrong direction! I've been riding the MBTA for more than 15 years now and it's always the same old song and dance and the same excuses as to why the "MBTA" can't provide a sufficient level of service despite a tremendous increase in ridership, especially during rush hour! The MBTA seems to have done next to nothing as far as keeping up with the sheer volume of customers during and leading up to this busy time of day, and yes, I'm referring to both morning and evening rush-hour! I have never seen such impropriety in all my life. At a time when expedient service is needed most, we are constantly subjected to the abysmal failures of this antiquated and under-run public transit service. It is outrageous, the way the "MBTA" runs trains for rush-hour during the week-days. I mean really!...The constant stopping of a train in between stops, the frequent holding of trains at a stop for so-called "schedule adjustments," ...during rush-hour?! ...That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of...for crying out loud!...What gives, MBTA?...Certainly not you! Isn't it enough that these trains periodically breakdown in between stops because they're so decrepit, and now we have to deal with these schedule adjustments during rush hour?! --- Please, give me a break! Don't let the MBTA fool you! --- A large percentage of the time that this happens, it's hard to believe that there is any "traffic-up-ahead" because you know you just missed the last train more than 15 minutes ago. ...And what are the "MBTA's" current schedules for rush-hour supposed to be?...Does it not say train service is to be every 5 minutes during rush-hour? --- Well, so much for that! I think the last time we all saw 5 minute service-intervals during rush-hour was probably several years ago----unless of course, there's a "BIG-GAME" in town or something like that, which again proves my point of the "MBTA" playing cat 'n' mouse with everyone. They can provide sufficient service for games, but forget about it for rush-hour, right? --- Whatever, MBTA---whatever! And to top it all off...the train operators constantly scream at customers to move in and not block doors...yet a good 90 percent of the time, these trains are already full to capacity, sometimes even as early as 3:30 in the afternoon during the work week. If the MBTA ran enough service leading up to and during rush hour (by putting more trains on the tracks and starting their rush-hour service earlier in the day than it does now), then this unnecessary congestion would not happen in the first place...and there would be no need for such childish antics as yelling at customers to get on an already packed train. This "Dog and Pony Show" that the "MBTA" constantly plays for the public has got to stop! The "MBTA" should be Ashamed of the way it treats its customers when it comes to providing continuous service during the times it is needed! If the "MBTA" says it doesn't have enough train-operators to run more trains on the tracks and do so, earlier in the day than it currently does just prior to rush hour, then that should be the "MBTA's" main priority in order to solve the unnecessary congestion that occurs at and even leading up to rush-hour---Not constantly yelling at customers as if that really ever accomplishes any good purpose except to cause more stress for everyone. I mean seriously! ---- Does the MBTA really expect the public to believe that they just don't have enough money or haven't tried hard enough to get needed funds when, yet, they've got a considerable number of huge-projects being currently worked on? And how about the obvious conflict of interest indicative of the formal complaint process that is available to customers?...All formal complaints are directed to ( 10 Park Plaza, Boston ), the same address as the MBTA's headquarters. And when a complaint is filed with the Massachusetts AGO, customers are referred to the Department of Transportation at this same address. Where is the real and independent agency of oversight for this confounded organization that is our public transit system...? Come On, "MBTA," who do you think you are kidding?! read more

I've spent plenty of time traveling on every single line of the MBTA. The green and red lines are usually the safest (although the green line trains are super narrow and filled w/ students) and the blue and orange have some safety issues and the orange line always seems to be breaking down. My issues w/ the orange line are constant breakdowns and safety. On one occasion, I had some random guy physically attack me because I accidentally bumped into him. I apologized but I guess he didnt hear me b/c he had his headphones on and then slammed me up against the door. I asked someone to hit the emergency alarm and it either wasn't working or the person who pressed it didn't slam it hard enough. I've witnessed several physical fights on the orange line over the years and some of the stations such as the Malden station are just gross. I did complain about this several years back and to the MBTA's credit, they did add some random police officers hopping on and off the trains but I think they need to make sure the emergency alarm call buttons are in order. Lastly, the route I typically took was Malden to Back Bay and without fail, the train would always stop after Wellington and just sit there for anywhere from 10-20 minutes. We would then get around downtown crossing and the train would stall again for another 10-15 minutes. Then, the MBTA had the bright idea to add the Assembly stop a few years back. The train was already WAY beyond capacity, to begin with at rush hour and now, people can't even get on the train b/c its too packed and have to wait for the next train. And yet, with all that, the fares keep going up and up and the employees that work for the MBTA make insane salaries for doing nada! read more

Pros: The Orange Line trains are much roomier than Green Line trains, and the Orange Line is very speedy and gets you to where you are going quickly. Cons: The Orange Line trains are old and dirty, though the MBTA is planning on replacing them soon. Unlike some of the other lines, the Orange Line doesn't go anywhere interesting, except maybe the Sam Adams brewery. Plus, the Orange Line runs through some of Boston's poorest high-crime neighborhoods, so it's a great place to go if you want to write a sociology thesis on the effects of having a baby at 16, dropping out of high school, and joining a gang. (The Orange Line is the only place I have ever seen a mother tell a 2-year-old to shut up while she turned her iPod volume higher. It's also the only place I've ever seen a half-naked heroin junkie fall over repeatedly while trying to remove his gloves.) In sum: Orange Line, fast but sketchy. Although convenient, most stations smell of urine. I was unfortunate to step on urine in the elevator. It left me with a disgusting feeling for the whole day! Train stations in developing countries fare much better. You can tell about the people by looking at their city. BOSTONIONS LACK PRIDE IN THEIR CITY! I find them spitting on streets. They're the first stops of Blue Line's outbound and inbound train, which means you get the first pick of seats! During rush hours, between 2pm-5pm it can become VERY PACKED especially at State and Government center stations, if near by Gov it'd be best to take the extra 3 minutes to walk to the Bowdoin Station. After 5 all the way to 1am, the blue line is mostly denizens of Revere and East Boston trying to get home from work. In bound trains are crowded noon to 5pm meanwhile outbounds train become crowded 2pm to 1am (depending on what day) The Bowdoin Station is a bit dark and not too well lit. The cleaners try their best to keep the station clean but the homeless/train riders tend to not respect the space and litter. Keep in mind that this station is NOT disabled accessible. The escalator has been broken for the past 2 years. If you need an elevator or escalator, Government Center would be your best station to hop onto the blue line. Avoid sitting on the benches because the homeless tend to sleep or release bodily fluids on those seats. Though for $2.40 a ride, it's not so bad! The Canada and Japan trains are much more expensive but much more efficient Safe Travels!

This is where traffic tends to pick up, especially after people fill up at Park St. One time a train broke down in the middle of the tracks. We were stuck in the train cart for over an hour. Then the fire department ended up evacuating the train and made us walk along the dirty tunnels and train tracks. My shoes were ruined because of this incident. No reimbursement. No honor. Japan's trains are beyond better.

Some people were running towards the train instead of staying in an organized line - most of them were foreigners that don't believe in rules, manners and decorum which is beyond the station's control. The train was open seating. There are food stalls, shops, and pharmacy at South Station. The restrooms are not the cleanest as one would expect from a train station at a big city. We've also used this station to get to different parts of Boston before and after the World Cup. The trains were alright.

It is also brightly lit, clean, and doesn't smell like the Brattle St. elevator at Harvard Sq. The station has a vastly underrated center platform, so you won't have to search for an entrance alternate entrance like a confused tourist. While there are two, these are not difficult to find. Finally, there is bus access upstairs with signage displaying more information about departures. Don't quote me here; I've been in quarantine too long.
