I starting seeing Sharde when she was at Julian Chase and followed her to Opus because no one has ever gotten my hair to look as gorgeous as she does. I actually live in New York now but I fly back to California to get my hair done with her. She's so attentive and really listens to what you want, but after 5 years now I just do what she tells me because she really knows what's best for my hair. Not only at my appointment, I always text her to ask for recommendations for things like dry shampoo or hair masks, and she gives me such great advice even when I'm not in her chair. Let's be real, you all know that you're in a hair stylist's chair for hours, so you want to be there with someone fun. In addition to being amazing at hair painting, styling, and everything else, Sharde is so warm and wonderful to chat with. I only see her once a year, and she remembers every conversation we have, so getting my hair done feels like catching up with a good friend. Yeah, I see her once a year. Shardé has been my go-to hair stylist for 4 years, and I followed her from Julian Chase to Opus Arcade. I went to Shardé to take my naturally black hair to purple. I'd gone to one other stylist at Julian Chase before for a violet-burgundy color and while I liked it at first, it ultimately wasn't what I wanted. I ended up going back to black for a few months for work, and when I was ready to try purple again, I found pictures of Shardé's work here on Yelp. Shardé does a great job of explaining to you exactly what needs to be done to your hair, what you can expect, and she makes sure you really understand what you're getting into. She's upfront with you about the maintenance of a hair color and how much her services cost, and she's totally worth it. What struck me the most about Shardé is that she doesn't just tell you things to try to get your money-- she's very upfront about the things she can't do, what she won't try, etc., and I've always really appreciated how upfront she is about the process to achieve whatever color or style you want. Over the years, Shardé worked with me to find my PERFECT purple mix. She would even give me dye to use to maintain the color for months. I probably saw Shardé only every 4-6 months for touch-ups, and I appreciated that she didn't have to do that! She could have had me come back to her much more often but her giving me some dye to mix into my conditioner saved me so much money! I get compliments on my purple all the time, even months after I've gotten it done, and I never hesitate to tell people where to go if they want color like mine. I had a friend recently who was unhappy with a color job they got at a cheap salon, and I immediately sent her Shardé's number-- my friend was so touched that Shardé gave her a consultation through text and her advice on steps to take to fix the color was super useful. Before Shardé, I never maintained a relationship with my hairdressers, but she's the first and at this point the only beautician I recommend to anyone else, and the only person I go see today. This review is for the amazing hairdresser who is Sharde!! Are you looking for a balayage?? She is amazing!!! The main reason why is she will actively have an interest in you and your hair. She doesn't want to break your hair and is realistic in what you want versus how often you are willing (and can afford) to come in. Having your hair done professionally isn't cheap. When I first saw her we talked about my ideas, but we also talked about how often I was able to come in. I knew I could see her in another 6 months, hopefully sooner, but wanted something low maintenance, and that would look good in the meantime. I saw her in January and can't wait to see her in June. Little shy or 6 months but I'm ready for a refresh. Cherry on top is that my manager had no idea I dyed my hair. She thought it was natural due to the way it's growing out. I have extremely dark hair, but I would absolutely love to be naturally platinum blonde. Sharde is great at both managing my expectations and delighting me with her work. And she WORKS her butt off to make sure we do what we can without destroying my extremely dark hair. I've been seeing Paige for years now and I always leave her chair happy. She always listens to what I want and gives me her opinion on what would work best with my hair. I've been seeing Vanessa for about 2.5 years now and she is AMAZING. I go to her for hair extensions and haircuts. I met her 2.5 years ago when I had a hair emergency (a bunch of my hair burnt off from a different salon...not ideal) and Vanessa came to the rescue and gave me extensions that gave me back my long, full hair. I started going to Opus Arcade this summer. It was long overdue, because I actually met the owner, Mylan, quite randomly through a dining event several years ago. She told me about her then new business and I remember being quite impressed by her extensive experience in the cosmetology industry! Since I already had my go-to place to get my quarterly haircuts, I didn't decide to switch to Opus until I had a bad experience at my former salon. Now I get my hair cut by Lisa Estrela, who I really like! Lisa is very sweet and she is a perfectionist when it comes to her craft. She gave me a very modern cut (a slightly tapered bob) that is easy to style and frames my face well. I like that it has a sophistication to it but is also low maintenance and amenable to my at times hectic schedule. The salon itself is beautifully furnished with natural, artisanal accents. It has an open floor plan and is very clean. I am also glad it's near California Ave, as opposed to downtown Palo Alto, because it's much easier to find parking. That being said, I wish Opus Arcade could come to San Jose, but I may be biased :) read more

About a year ago I was searching for balayage stylists to make my already one time processed grown out hair beautiful again and I came across Sharde! She did such an amazing job it was no question to come back to her again close to a year later to get my hair done. There's finally an upscale hair salon for guys. Not only does it have the word "arcade" in the name, but you feel like you're in an old fashion gentlemen's lounge. The location is perfect and there is plenty of parking in the FREE parking garage across the street. I have to say that I felt welcomed the moment I stepped into this place. All the stylists are friendly and it seems like there are always beautiful people inside this salon. My stylist is Mylan, and I have to say that I don't think I will have anybody else but her do my hair. She's easy to talk to and she understands the look that I'm going for. I have to say that I was surprise by the amount of detail and thought that she puts to doing my hair. I now understand the value in finding a great stylist that you can trust and appreciate. And-despite a few deviations and a little experimentation-I've always faithfully returned. Today, after going along with my long-hair dream for a few years, we finally decided to chop 6 inches off and she new exactly what kind of shape I had in mind before I even said it. I took a picture because I knew that was exactly what I wanted my hair to look like on my wedding day. I'm writing this review specifically for Sharde, not the salon as a whole. So previously I have only been to beauty schools for balayage, which means I have uncertified students working on my hair. I know they're not perfect, but that's okay since I know what I'm getting into. I'm pretty lax about my hair, so as long as it looks decent, I'm cool with it. (Spoiler: my hair sucks now). So, I made an appointment with Sharde after seeing the photos on her Instagram page. She definitely knows how to do hair, so I'm not sure what happened with mine. We had a pretty long conversation prior to my appointment and she completely understood what I wanted. She said she'd use a combination of balayage and foil to get me lighter, and could get me very close to the pictures I showed her. Fast forward to the appointment: First of all she spent the whole appointment complaining about her family members and just wouldn't stop talking. If you're someone who likes to just relax when you're getting your hair done, find someone else. Next, she didn't even use foil. I was confused but went with it. Then, while washing my hair, she said something that was immediately a red flag. She said that I was the client with the naturally darkest hair she's ever worked on. Okay? You've NEVER had a client with black hair? I ignored that comment because my hair was lighter at the time, so it shouldn't have made a difference for this appointment. The result: Basically 2 hours and $250+ later, my hair wasn't even remotely close to what I ask for. She made my hair DARKER than when I walked in and made it Ash Brown. I said I wanted to go lighter on the balayage, wanted to keep it WARM, and wanted Carmel highlights. And the final result was a full head of Ash Brown. She literally made all my hair the exact same color. I could have done this at home with box dye! The part of the appointment that pissed me off the most was that she acted like this is exactly what I asked for. She kept mentioning how "it's difficult to get my your lighter than this" and "we raised your hair color like 5 levels." I'm no expert, but if uncertified beauty students made my hair lighter, it obviously has the ability to be lighter than DARK ASH BROWN. She even said I could come back for another appointment with her for highlights. Which I'd have to pay for. Like WHAT? Pass. I already have an appointment at another salon to fix what she did to my hair. All I can say is that from my experience, it seems that Sharde has absolutely no idea what she's doing when it comes to non-blondes, and doesn't tell you the truth when she's promising what she can do. read more

It was a really bad experience. I paid 90 dollars for just a haircut and I found Vanessa made the two sides different lengths after washing my hair. Terrible experience. I asked Paige Madrid to take off two inches of my long hair. I said it more than once and was explicit. Instead, she took off nearly five. Then she said, "Wow, it's shorter than I thought it would be." It's also noticeably uneven. At first she offered me $25 off the $125 price. After further complaint to her and to the owner she agreed to a full refund. I also got an apology from salon management. Paige has done a lot of volunteer work shaving heads for breast cancer patients, but I cannot recommend her to cut hair. read more

Once she was too busy so I went to a different hairstylist and it was the worst decision I made that summer. I had to go back to Shardé to correct the nonsense I had on my head. She forgave me for betraying her for a second and fixed my hair and saved my life pretty much. I used to be a brunette but I have been gradually becoming a blonde through balayage. Sharde knows what's up, like she will let you know what's good for you and your hair. Do not ever worry when she tells you you need a trim, she will never chop off 10inches off your hair, you might even ask her to cut more. I've been following MyLan around for more years than I care to admit. Most of that time to the ends of the earth (DTSJ) so I was beyond THRILLED when she honored the entrepreneurial goddess within and took over this spot in PA. I've been to many different stylists before and if you're a guy who cares about your appearance, then this is the place for you. It's conveniently located off of El Camino Real with lots of free street and garage parking across the street from the salon. if you work in the area, like I do, it's great to be able to come in during lunch or after work before meeting up with friends for dinner or drinks somewhere nearby. I've been going to MyLan for over 13 years and have referred all of my friends to her. She does a great job of listening to her clients, analyzing their hair types and making valuable suggestions if/when needed. I fully trust her skill and expertise and the results have always been excellent. She takes a great deal of pride in her work as she meticulously prepares, cuts and styles my hair. Aside from that, the most important quality that differentiates her from other stylists is her creativity and ability to visualize a new look that not only compliments her client's physical features but also their personality as well. I usually "let her drive" while feeling 100% comfortable and confident that whatever she suggests will look good. From the phone call reminder a few days prior to the appointment, to the friendly greeting by the front desk coordinator, to the leather chairs in the waiting area to the different art hanging on the walls, all make for a very positive experience. Also, need to get cleaned up for a certain event but your next appointment isn't until several weeks away? No problem. She can get you in for a quick neck trim (sometimes at the last minute) to hold you over which is GREAT! I'm also very happy that she was able to open her own shop and has been able to attract other top talented stylists as well. UPDATE: I was pleased that Mylan contacted me regarding my lackluster hair treatment, and appreciated the way we were able to resolve my negative experience. The stylist who attempted to color my hair is no longer at the salon. However, it appears that all the people who rent chairs at this business are longstanding stylists with strong reviews. In light of these reviews, and my lengthy interaction with Mylan, I would feel comfortable following up with another service in the future. What a waste of $260. Very disappointing, lackluster dye job. I have extremely color resistant gray hair, frizzy (from a bad perm) and style grown out due to a lengthy illness. time to start hair recovery. This is why I chose what seemed to be a reputable, high end salon - with a price to match. I also had a consultation before making the appointment, to ensure I could get a great job done. However, rather than receiving a beginning color correction, I seemed to get a "cover job."
