Upgraded to fast speed fiber and dropped an unnecessary phone line and DVR so our monthly bill (while still outlandish) would be lower than before. Sounded good on paper, but the actual process was amazingly abysmal: Apparently Optimum believes in labor specialization so we needed two three-hour appointments, one to run a fiber cable from the outside pole to our house, and the second to hook up the inside equipment. The first appointment lasted about 2 minutes; a couple of techs went into the backyard, looked up at the pole thoughtfully and left, having done absolutely nothing. The second tech came the next day, said it's not his job to run outside cables so he couldn't install anything and then disappeared. Tech returned 2 hours later, said he'd run the outside cable after all. It was a warm day and the tech had to drag a tall ladder and heavy wires to the pole with no help. I felt sorry, brought him a beverage. Second tech replaced our modem and TV boxes, stating that we should be up and running in an hour or two at most. Hoping for the best we waited....and waited.....nada. A third tech was dispatched to our house for troubleshooting, said he didn't know how to work with fiber, hung out in his car for awhile and left. I repeatedly called and chatted with Optimum (using my Verizon cell phone) over the next few days to see what the holdup was, got nothing but evasive contradictory answers. After FOUR DAYS of no Internet services, I finally reached a wonderful customer service agent named Kendra who investigated and found out that Optimum had never thrown the switch at their end to get our service back on! Kendra pursued the matter internally and our service was restored. Thank you Kendra! Unbelievably bad customer service and inept management coupled with high pricing? May be a good business model for a semi-monopoly like Optimum/Altice, but a raw deal for consumers. read more

The problem is the overcharging, and dismal customer service. One time I received an offer for a promotional deal on pricing (with an upgrade or something). When I called about it, the rep I got insisted that it didn't exist to the point of basically calling me a liar, even though I had the letter in my hand! They continuously offer these great deals to new customers, while raising prices for long term loyal customers. So you're forced to "play the game"- call & threaten to cancel and see what promotion they can offer. I finally switched to frontier -no regrets! The rep was pretty rude when I canceled service too. I recently wrote a review about my mom's landline phone needing a technician. I called on the 7th, and they responded that the 12th was the best they could do. However, upon hearing that we could not wait for the technician that day due to an urgent medical appointment, they said the 20th was the best they could do. I still find it unbelievable that a customer paying hundreds per month for the internet, phone, tv package has to wait two full weeks to get a technician out. Who offers only one small appointment window in 2 weeks? Terrible for service. Worse still, they immediately responded with one of those empty PR statements because their image took a hit online. Today, they called but still seemed clueless about solving the problem. Their idea of solving the problem was for me to call them back in a different department and ask for an earlier appointment. Hmmm...well, if I wasted time with them yesterday only to hear them say it would be impossible to get an earlier appointment why would I waste my time today to get the same answer? Why couldn't they patch me through or better yet have the right person call me who could offer earlier times? This company is not interested in real service, just the image of service. Absolutely terrible service. Wish that there was a way to put no star on review. One star might fool people into thinking anything was good about the place. Even getting into the parking lot was strange (Some barricades, some closed entries and exits)-but why would they care? Waited over an hour to exchange a cable box. Staff slow as molasses. Generally I don't complain, but watched staff taking selfies together, being away from their work areas, etc.... Place actually only had 1 person in front of me and 3 others being taken care of When I got there. Staff member told me to hit "accept" and then sign the electronic pad. I did it numerous times to no avail. She finally actually put the correct info in to activate the pad, then came around and hit "Accept" for me and looked at me like I was an idiot. Sauntered across the place with my new box in hand. wouldn't give it to me until she put my old one in a bag. I asked if I could leave and was told "most people wait for their receipt". I found out that they had changed my user name, to ONE account, and that ONE ACCOUNT has literally NEVER been used by me, and is so FREAKING common as to say that if I had just put in my FIRSTNAME@suddenlink.net ANY person on EARTH with my last name would be getting email at my account, or vice versa. I would not recommend using Optimum at all! From the sales rep lying from day one to speaking with at least 7 different people and each one had a different story to tell. Then I get billed twice so they partially bill me from 8/30-9/7 then bill me again from 9/8-10/7 and when I told the c/s rep that's exactly what they did she started getting nasty and once again couldn't tell the truth. Trust me never sign up with Optimum their prices are high and they lie from the minute you let that sales rep in your door. Now I have to cancel my service with them and go back to Verizon because at least with them you receive straightforward answers and they try to help you in any way necessary. Once again, your company has failed me. 2 yrs ago I had asked for two simple things, have my wife removed as primary and me put in place and have her business email removed. NEVER HAPPENED. I called today to inform your company Optimum / Suddenlink, which I now kindly refer to them as Optimum-less and Sudden-crap, that my ex-wife's email was comprised and that here clients were receiving phasing emails (I hope you know what that means). Since I was supposedly placed as the primary holder of the account 2 yrs. ago, I was happy to look into it. After contacting your company, I was informed that this did not occur and that she was still showing as primary. Another big surprise! The person was happy to help and in doing so, I now have two email accounts but not able to access my emails as I am stuck in the screwed-up mess created by your company. 3 hrs. on the phone later, still no change. Yesterday, all was good, today after contacting your company, all is gone to the crapper. I don't call your company as every time I do, you all seem to screw things up worse. Called in to have my DVR replaced, your tech installs a non-DVR box, had to call back to have that corrected. Called in for similar poor service on my video and wouldn't you know it, the tech was provided a standard DVR. This was after two calls to have my appointment cancelled! So, your company really has no clue on what they are doing which means that the leadership, all the way up to you, is the same. You need to get OUT of this industry as it is very clear you have no clue on how to run a business, other than into the ground! No rewind. no favorite channel. No pause. Guide you need to hit 3 button. No clock. Some idiot didn't design this for an operator. Say you want 301. you hit 3 and goes to 3 before you can hit the 0 &1. try again 30 again channel 30. Then 3&0 doesn't register bam channel 1. This is crazy. 5 tries to change the channel WTF. This review won't surprise anyone. Just a cautionary tale. I called Optimum-Altice (OA) a week ago to significantly downgrade my service because my bill kept creeping higher and higher. Used the chat function so I could be assured the representative could see exactly what I wanted to do. It took two different chats that day (over an hour total!!!) to request the changes. I was assured they would take effect in 2-3 hours. Great. But wait. Checked the app last night, a full week after those chats, and saw the changes had not been made! Signed on to a chat again. Was assured it would now be in effect HOWEVER I would still be charged the same outrageous price as I was for my last bill because they are unwilling to amend the billing mid cycle. They are bloodsuckers who don't care about customers or customer service at all. Every chat mentions a customer survey to follow yet I never received anything. They know and they don't care. Zero stars. 4 months of WiFi issues. Paying for upgraded WiFi that does not work and faulty equipment. They agreed to send a new router and it wasn't compatible with the STB and didn't work. They sent a tech who claimed to fix the issue and 24 hours later the problem came back. Again faulty equipment, instead of swapping our router he re ran lines. They also charged us 50 dollars for him to come out. I've never in my life spent more time calling customer service and tech support with a Cable company. Switching this Friday.
