Initially there was no-one at the reception desk, so the wait began. Eventually an assistant said 'Someone will be with you shortly' After an hour of being ignored I was given a cursory quick-fire 3-minute test and told to buy new glasses because 'the left eye has changed'. My question 'How much has it changed?' was just ignored with more pressure to buy new glasses. There was no discussion of the test results nor eye health. New glasses were then selected from those on show but there was a further long wait until someone deigned to process the order. They were unable to give me the mandatory copy of the prescription because 'The optometrist has gone home without signing it' It was 5.30pm before I could get away. . The test equipment seems modern, but customer satisfaction is completely ignored.

Just a warning about Brittain opticians on Harborne High Street…read more Today we discovered, thanks to the children's hospital, that my 4 year old Grandson has been given the wrong perscription in his glasses from Brittain opticians. The hospital has confirmed that he has damage now to his eyes due to there negligence. The staff at Britain's have admitted they have given him the wrong perscription. There only offer was they would do an eye test and give him new glasses. The hospital have said this isn't allowed as his eye problems are complex and are only to be revised by the hospital. When we informed Brittons of this, they refused to let us talk to the manager. They refused to give us any email or phone number of a governing body of optitions. And ultimately when we kept asking they Banned us from contacting them or going into the store. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! My Grandson has permanent damage to his eyes because of thier negligence!

It's not…read moreparticularly fun, although I am used to it, but it did help going to an optician with such nice, helpful staff. I booked my test on the phone very easily and was greeted by friendly faces when I arrived. My test was done promptly and thoroughly- they have a lot of those fancy machines. Sadly including the air-puff eyeball one, which I hate, but at least I know they're checking everything. My optician was also very friendly, and took the time to show me the photos the machines had taken. As suspected, I needed new glasses, and the lady at reception helped me choose frames (always harder when you're short sighted...) and then helped me work out the best way to get value for money on them with the offers they had on. Really very pleasant, and it only misses an extra star because the frame selection is very small due to the shop size, and because they don't have the handy photo tv things that you can use to view and compare glasses.
