Vibrant Vision + Optical - Dr Dana McLaughlin

I don't think I would ever go anywhere else. Dr. Dana always answers questions thoroughly during…read morethe annual routine exams. Very helpful. Then I had an emergency and she got me right in and diagnosed me and gave me the next steps and a followup. I was pretty freaked out about my eye and she was calming and competent and caring. Big gratitude.

I had a deeply disappointing and frustrating experience at this eye doctor's office. Initially, the…read moredoctor's exam was professional, but everything after that was a series of poor communication and lack of care. The office staff seemed disorganized and uninterested in providing quality service. During my first visit, after the exam, I was directed to a staff member to discuss frames and lenses. In the middle of our conversation, he abruptly abandoned me to assist an attractive young woman who had just walked in. He greeted her with delight and left me sitting there alone, completely dumbfounded. After several minutes of waiting, I decided to leave. I told him goodbye and he said thanks for coming in. He provided no explanation as to why he left me sitting there. I didn't return until over a year later. When I finally returned for another eye exam, I was determined to get new glasses. The exam went fine, but later after the exam the doctor rudely interrupted my discussion with the glasses specialist, abruptly and loudly stating, "Brian! She needs to go to lunch!" I didn't know it was her lunch time. How would I know that? I felt rushed and embarrassed, but I went ahead and picked a pair of frames I wasn't entirely sure about. Weeks passed, and no one contacted me to let me know my glasses and contact lenses had arrived. When I finally called, they told me they were there, which I found odd since no one had called to let me know. When I went to pick up the contact lenses, I had to practically beg for instructions on how to care for them, which felt very strange. Upon trying them, I found that one lens was clear at a distance, but the other was blurry at a distance, and both were unusable for mid-range and close-up vision. When I reported this, they vaguely mentioned trying progressive lenses but did not provide a clear explanation as to why they hadn't considered this in the first place. Instead of ordering progressives, they simply reordered another pair of the same lenses, which made no sense. I also wanted prescription sunglasses and had an excellent pair of frames that a friend gave me, but the office seemed confused and unwilling to use them. That issue was never resolved. Then, in the midst of all this, my best friend passed away suddenly. I was devastated and put my glasses situation on hold as I grieved. A few months later, my father also passed away. I was overwhelmed with loss and grief, and during this entire time, not once did anyone from the office check in with me or follow up about my glasses or contact lenses. After grieving for a couple months I decided I needed to finally resolve the issue. When I returned to the office and discussed the delays, the glasses specialist blamed it on staffing issues but showed no empathy when I mentioned my father's passing. As I was trying to have an open conversation about the difficulties I had been facing with the office, she abruptly went to the back and printed a refund check for the returned glasses. I was shocked. I told her I didn't want a refund, I wanted glasses and contact lenses. I handed the check back, found a pair of frames I really liked, and ordered progressive contact lenses. I left feeling like, finally, things were moving forward. This was February 10th. I was told the new contacts would take about ten days to arrive. I waited. But, instead of getting a call that my contacts were ready, I checked my mail about two weeks later and was shocked to find a letter from the doctor, informing me that she was discharging me as a patient. After two years of back and forth, after all the difficulties and delays on their part, after the time and effort I put in to finally find the right glasses, I was being abruptly dropped as a patient, while I was still grieving the loss of my best friend and my father. Now, I have to start completely over with a new eye doctor. This cold, uncaring treatment was disturbing, and I would not recommend this office to anyone seeking compassionate care or professionalism.

Last year in 2024 and in 2023 I thought it was just a fluke or bad day with really poor customer…read moreservice... and yet again the moment I need something not routine or 1 step easy, even something as simple as a copy of a bill for tax purposes, I am met with attitude like how dare someone request something that complicated. I , the paying customer of SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS, have been told ( like it's the customers fault or problem) that this company changed computer systems and now my documents would be very difficult to obtain! Seriously!!!!! to the point of Not calling back!!! Like they hoped I would accept this as the norm .., WTH , is this what " Quiet Quitting is???" Today I physically had a witness to hear this workers total annoyed attitude that a customer would call back 4 times over 6 days for the same thing. Have they considered actually following through with something so a customer doesn't need to keep calling back????? Today, Having someone else hear this phone call made me clearly recognize the problem is systemic to this company Optic'49. For goodness sakes, all that was requested was my own medical records and now I have spent over 4 hours of my own personal time calling, driving over, trying to open emails that fail.... Absolutely ridiculous! If you have a simple need, Basic glasses and don't mind workers that treat you like you are the obstacle to the end of their agonizing day, then they are the right eye clinic! Thank goodness for other options!!!!! I am DONE! The basic Rx never worked properly to begin with & I was told it was me, try harder I was told. Well 2 years later they still don't work. Do yourself a Huge favor, Go somewhere where the staff actually care about good results! Even Costco has better customer service! I rarely write yelp reviews, this was absolutely needed & I see another review from a recent customer also dealing with their malignant customer service.

I have had my glasses less than 2 weeks. Teeniest screw fell out and I can't get it back in! Don't…read morebother calling the office! They only take messages for people with appointments or people wanting to make one!

I was going to let this entirely weird experience go until I read these repeated references to the…read morerudeness of the staff and other issues which I also experienced. First of all I went in to get tested for glaucoma and cataracts but was subjected to an endless eye exam by an impatient rude condescending know it all early 20 something demanding I answer the questions in a very black and white manner. I assume she cowed most of her "patients" (though she was clearly some kind of tech) into responding the way she wanted them to. I mentioned to the doctor my concerns about the testing being off as a result though he said I needed glasses and he would be concerned about my driving and added " Let me put it this way you would never pass a DMV eye test. I said I begged to differ with him as I had passed a DMV eye test, without glasses, a few weeks prior. Though I can read 6 pt. font without glasses, I didn't want to risk the safety of myself or others so on his recommendation I filled the "prescription". I ordered ( progressive) bi focal and (transitional) sun darkening lens with anti glare and scratch protection. As the weeks wore on though I wore the glasses frequently I saw little to no improvement in my vision wearing them. My chief presenting concern was not seeing road signs at much of a distance however the glasses made NO IMPROVEMENT at all in that regard. Also I cannot wear them at all on my computer though they said they would improve my ability to read on a computer screen. Then I discovered the lens were not transitional and did not darken in sunlight at all. They said I was confused about the terms and blamed me for the error. THEN they tell me I owed an additional 67.00 they tacked onto the bill. Also I received an additional bill for thirty dollars after already paying nearly 400 out of pocket the total bill being almost a thousand dollars. FINALLY I called the billing department who CLEARLY assured me I did not owe the 67 or 30 dollar additional charges. While relieved I had a sinking feeling this would not be the end of this matter and sure enough, it wasn't. Like many said you can't call and ask the simplest of questions on the phone. THEY SAY they will call you back but don't or even bother to let you know when your glasses are ready for pick up. ALL the staff I interacted with seemed short not rude really, but were almost without exception, humorless and VERY condescending. Even the last person in billing who was nice enough to finally split the 67 dollar added fee in half (none of which I should have had to pay) but had to tell me the transitional lens which darken in sunlight are called progressive when indeed they are called transitional . She also had to add at the end of our conversation how PEOPLE don't like being on the other side of anger presumably she meant mine, though I was not angry only irritated and just trying to get my needs met and trying too hard to get them to be accountable which was a waste of my time and energy. Her creepy gaslighting behavior kind of wrecked the positive aspects of her knocking off half of the 67 dollar added fees as well.

My wife and I went in together to get yearly eye exams. We have only been here in Salem a year so…read morehad to choose someplace. They seemed to do a good job but when my wife went back to pick up her glasses she couldn't see good out of one eye. This had never happened before. Was told she had to wait a week before they would do anything so to try wearing the glasses. She did not as she couldn't see out of one side of glasses. Went back and then had to wait another week for an appointment. They then took a long time evaluating her and told here she had cateract in the one eye. They billed for a comprehensive eye exam but didn't find the cateracts the first time. Didn't tell me I had cateracts either but knew I had some in both eyes from previous eye exams but I dont need glasses except for reading. My wife got another pair of glasses a couple of weeks later after the second exam. Still can't see clearly out of one eye with glasses but it is better than the first pair of glasses. We won't be using this place again as we both don't trust them after all the issues that they should have caught the first time. They are friendly and try to help but in the end need to do better.
