Don't bring your animals to this vet if you want decent care. I recently got a dog from a rescue and per the contract he was to be taken to Opp Vet Hospital to be neutered. The minute I walked through the door I knew I should've turned around, while checking in my dog I heard the vet, Dr Story, letting a man know his dog had passed who was obviously upset. The problem was, it was the most insensitive way he could have broke the news. Anyways I checked him in and let them take him back for surgery. I get a call about 1:30 saying I could come pick up my dog. When I get there they attempt to inform me that one of his testicles had not dropped so he had 2 more incisions on top of the one he had for the actual neuter. Which this is false because I worked at a vets office a couple of years and I've been around dogs my ENTIRE life and I felt to make sure both testicles were dropped the night before and multiple times prior because I know it can be an issue and they definitely were dropped no doubt. If In the case that one wasn't dropped he should have called me BEFORE making the extra incision. Anyways they tell me he will be getting pain meds and an e-collar. I ask the nice lady up front if she thinks the cone is even necessary because, in my time at the vet and around a bunch of surgery, cones have not really been necessary unless the dog offers to chew because it's mostly an unnecessary expense . Dr Story pops out of another room and yells "YES! absolutely 100% of cryptorchid dogs will immediately chew their stitches. I take no chance, he will chew out his stitches." At this point I guess he forgets I did work with two amazing vets and he continues to talk over me and cut me off. But whatever "statistics" he needs to throw around to get an extra $14 I guess. 100% really? Anyways let's not forget the pain meds, I received 2 Carprofen 25mg pills in halves. TWO. They cost about $0.50 a pill. They charged me $15 for those two pills, ridiculous. I get my boy back though and I in all my post-surgery dogs have never seen a simple neuter make a dog look so absolutely pitiful. This "doctor" butchered my dog by thinking one of his lymph nodes in his inner leg was a testicle because he was too careless to check and then extended the incision the make it look more realistic I guess. Dr Story is an incompetent vet who talks over you and doesn't give you time to think before you realize he's just rambling things to trick you into believing him. Also may I just say, it has been 5 days, no cone and my baby boy hasn't offered to chew at his stitches once. We are currently at my vet because his incision is extremely hard and swollen and all around awful looking and he hasn't been playing or eating. UPDATE: his incision is very infected because of all the trauma the vet caused him, he will be on heavy antibiotics to attempt to avoid having my vet go back in to drain the infection. Will know more on Thursday. #99%maybe? #beatingtheodds read more
