As an artist I find the move to sports and away from the arts very disturbing. I think the children should be allowed to experience both. My Mom and I loved the home tour on Mother's Day weekend even if we did walk our legs off doing it. The houses were wonderful. A big thank you to all that attended and donated to this very worthy cause.

Furthermore, there is an unusually strong, yet refreshing, parent community that stands behind and supports this school. I am proud to say that I am one of those active parents and I would not change it any other way. As Co-Chair for the Wash Park Home Tour 2012 and 2013, whereby proceeds go to Steele Elementary and Denver's Education Outreach Program, this event is a great way to bring the community together with this great school that will be celebrating its 100 Anniversary in 2013. Thank you Steele for everything!
Sandoval Elementary School
Sandoval Elementary seems to be one of the best elementary school choices in the Highlands area…read more The DPS system does not have an excellent reputation. My son has been attending Sandoval a few years now. Sandoval is a little strange. The classes are grouped so for example 1,2 and 3rd graders are all lumped together for 3 years. I did question this method, but the bright side is that it creates some stability in class mates and teachers. It's half Spanish speaking which I feel is a mixed blessing as well. My son is learning two languages but I am afraid he may end up a "jack of all trades master of none" but the verdict is still out. The school is kind of hard to get into, so I think the parents and kids seem to take learning a little more seriously at this school.

It's such an inspiring group of educators and families who truly believe in the school's mission. Our child feels supported, seen, and excited to come to school every day--she loves learning, creating, and being herself here. DDES doesn't just focus on academics; they're helping kids learn how to be good people and make the world a better place. The teachers foster curiosity, kindness, and confidence in a way that feels both intentional and joyful. It's a place that values character, collaboration, and real-world learning--and it shows in the way the kids talk about what they're doing. We couldn't be happier to be part of this community.

Cory Elementary School
I wanted to wait until the end of the year to review my experience here. Considering my previous…read morepoor DPS elementary experience, I didn't want to make a hasty decision based on the obvious. The obvious being accelerated academic program(s), stellar Principal and teachers, and attention to each child's needs via a tremendously effective magnet program within the schools regular program...amongst other things. Cory stands head and shoulders above many (most) of the DPS elementary schools in the state. Outside of the reasons stated above, the PTA at Cory goes above and beyond. They are aware of, and embrace, new families - open to participation and suggestions for events, and parent involvement. The teachers are aware of the varying levels of academic prowess for children ages 5-10 and utilize this as a teaching tool, not as a hindrance for the above and below average student. The "average" student is not a role model for the outstanding students. Nor are the esl students needs placed above any other needs in any given classroom. Each child is taught at their level consistently. A safe community where each child is respected and embraced for what they bring to the environment - what a concept~

These days, I…read morehave a five year old, so I'm offering a review of his school instead, because he doesn't like exotic eateries. At the time of writing this, my son has been at Park Hill Elementary for going on three months, and I cannot say enough good things about the staff, the administrators, and the school in general. There are a ton of kids that attend PHE, but they manage the chaos well. The parents are encouraged to participate, and communication has been exemplary. The only downside is that there is no A/C in the building yet, but that is in the works. Also, those little buggers keep spreading colds around and bringing them home. Other than that, great stuff!

To which they would respond "I'm not even thinking of finishing high school." or "I don't want to go to college, Ill work fast food somewhere." The drive from many students was sadly quite low and it affected many students around them. I also thought it was very odd when I had a history class taught by 3 different teachers. One teaching in Spanish, the next Arabic, then the final one in English. It was quite distracting and was an inefficient way to teach. I transferred out after a semester.

So . . . if you aren't interested in music at this level, please read no further. If you are interested, then "this level" is not even accurate. These kids were fantastic! Each Concert segment (Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble) played three pieces and each time they had the entire audience on their feet clapping. So, yes, there were a lot of proud parents there . . . a full house even . . . on the night of a big home Bronco game no less. But they had reason to be proud . . . these were not "get-a-music-credit-out-of-the-way" musicians , , , these were musicians who know their craft. I would lay money on a large percentage of them going on to some field of music. They were that good. And you know what that means? They were blessed with excellent music instructors. It was a night of music that I won't soon forget. These kids are our future and I couldn't be prouder. And, no, to answer your question . . . I am NOT related to a single one of them . . . but I am super proud of their musical ability. If you have the opportunity to attend their next concert . . . do they have one in the Spring? . . . don't miss it.
