Do not recommend. Billing practices is shady and non-transparent. They make promises to give you detail billing before work is done and say on your next appointment they will have it ready and then it doesn't happen. Then they begin working on your children teeth and while sitting there they make you sign paperwork giving them permission to do all this work while not know what you are signing. Also, the secretary is nasty when ask for copies of your billing and copies all of the things you signed. They delay and don't want to give it to you. This is shady. Beware the $475 office visit fee. I had to go back to have my child's filling redone, because they had made some errors the first time and it was causing a lot of pain. They agreed to redo the filling for "free", but there was a $475 "office visit fee" that wasn't covered by insurance and $100 for nitrous oxide tacked on. I couldn't say no because my child was there, in pain, and they would not redo the filling unless I agreed to pay. read more

My three children went to this establishment and initially it went well, the location is clean, no issues with scheduling appointment. What I did not like how they push treatment to parents, in my case they were recommending a extraction for a two years old child without considering other options. I had a really pleasant experience at Open Bright ! I was very nervous about taking my daughter to the dentist for the first time. I was concerned that she would be anxious about the machinery and noises during her teeth cleaning. To my surprise, my daughter did very well and I think she may have actually enjoyed going to the dentist! The staff were warm and friendly! Aside from completing necessary forms, there was no wait time. Zero transparency on pricing and insurance coverage. Gave us no option when giving our child multiple composite (rather than amalgam) fillings which are more expensive and not covered by dental insurance. I don't want to pay more for fancy fillings in baby teeth that are going to fall out in a few years. They were also not upfront about added fee for laughing gas (also not covered by insurance) when scheduling the filling appointment either. When I asked for a printed/itemized receipt to compare to my benefits, the response was rude. (Several other reviewers have noted the rudeness at the front desk as well.) I understand these are problems that plague the entire dental and medical industries, but if we can't hold individual providers accountable to do better with cost transparency and choices, nothing's ever going to change. I wanted to really like this place, but really disappointed with management. My kids enjoy coming to the dentist and have had a great experience, but the appointment times are always longer then expected, I waited for nearly an hour one visit to be seen and it was an early morning appointment. Today I weighed the option of keeping my appointment, even though I don't live in the area anymore and could easily get a another dentist my area. I decided that I didn't want to deal with the unexpected so I called to cancel my appointment and to let them know I won't be returning and only to be told that I a balance on my account for a visit that was 2 years ago. How unorganized and unprofessional. I've never got a bill, a letter and email to explain said "balance". It really show how unorganized this place really is, but it really irks my nerves why a place can open their mouth and say by the way you have a balance for 2 years ago. read more

You would think a place that sends you about 1000 reminder, please confirm your appt time emails, would respect the appointment time. This is not a review about the services offered as after 40 mins of waiting with a 15 month old I had to leave after not seeing anyone. I do understand having to wait sometimes but not 40 minutes. Was used to love this place even though the wait times were long and you never knew what dentist your child would be sitting down with. The icing on the cake was when they all of a sudden stopped taking our insurance and from one day go the next just cancelled our appointment. Everyone here is meant to work with children. They are all extremely patient which I can definitely appreciate. My son (now 4yo) was terrified the very first time he went. I didn't prepare him at all. He was crying and shaking the whole time, but the staff members were nice to him and they took their time. They have this little dragon they use for kids to brush its teeth while they wait. Then the staff will show the kids the proper way to do it. The waiting area is small, but they have plenty of educational books and toys for children to keep themselves entertained. Even though we've only been twice, the wait hasn't been more than 30 minutes which isn't bad for me at all. read more

Then the week of the appointment, the dentist cancelled for personal reasons (ok) but they said to reschedule we had to go to the back of the line and wait another 6 weeks to come in. That's wacked customer service but they said nothing could be done. I asked for the office manger but was told she wasn't available. This is going to be my last and final review because this will be my last and final visit to this office. I came in here today for an appointment for my daughter. When dentist Laurence came I was breast feeding my son who is 9 months old. She seemed a bit uncomfortable but I ignored it. After my daughter was done with her treatment I was asking the dentist questions and my son was crying. He was sitting in the stroller so I got up to pick him up and started to feed him again. Dentist Laurence said to me something along the lines of "ok. You know you don't have to feed him all the time. Feed him when he's hungry and that's it. Breast milk has sugar and can cause cavities.." she continued to talk and I just listened to her. I said thank you and that was it. Ms. Laurence that is a very ignorant statement to make. Research has proven that breast milk does not cause tooth decay at all. ( I will post images of the research as well as the link below) And let's just take a step back and think about the statement you made. Breast milk is something NATURAL designed FOR babies, which gives them the BEST nutrition and is a source of comfort for them. With that being, said why would God create something so natural and perfect for babies and then make it cause tooth decay. That alone is enough for me as proof, but please read the research for yourself. Part of me doesn't blame her and the other dentists or believing this because that's what they are taught at school. However, the knowledge you gain at your university is only but so much. There is so much more we don't know about the human body, let alone our teeth. So with that being said, I will not longer be coming here. I will be looking somewhere for better care and treatment. Every time I come here I feel like I am fighting a battle between the dentist and it should not be that way. Take your time and listen to your patients. Show that you care. Answer our questions with actual concern. Don't just brush us off and try to get to the next patient. This is not what you call good health care. My only regret is taking my daughter to this establishment in the first place. But, you live and you learn. I will never bring my son here that is for sure. I have been taking my son's here for probably at least a couple years but after this last appointment. I don't want to go back. My 5 year old son had to have a cavity filled so we came for our appt on time. I paid the $100 fee for gas for him since he has a strong gag reflex and they have had a difficult time taking xrays. We sat there for a good hour before the office manager(I'm assuming) told me that his insurance was terminated. Which it was not but he couldn't bother to actually pick up the phone and call the insurance co. The insurance should be verified before you verify the appointment. Poor management! I took my three and a half year old son here just few days ago. My son is speech delayed and has SPD, so dentist visits are never pleasant for him. I went to 5 other locations and his OT suggested this place. My son loved the toys that were there. Very nice and clean environment. There was a bit of a wait but that didn't bother me too much. The nurse and dentist was very nice and patient with my son. Though we did have to eventually force him down so they can least look into his mouth, that took maybe 20 minutes because they tried to get him comfortable which I appreciate a lot. Buyer beware, while I found the time my son was in the actual chair to be fine, the office practices are decidedly not. Even though I called ahead to confirm they were in network for my insurance and even though during the actual appointment I specifically asked if the flouride treatment they gave to my son was included in routine care and covered by insurance, when checking out I come to learn that my insurance does NOT cover the flouride and my bill was now $70 instead of $15. For two wipes of flouride on my child's teeth that took all of maybe 15 seconds. Office staff wouldn't budge or admit the error in their practitioner giving me false information. I feel swindled. Unless you have unlimited funds for dental care, I would avoid this office. read more

We loved Open Bright until today's very frustrating call with the office manager, who seemed to care not at all about our choice to find a new pediatric dentist as a result of the call. Our son has only ever visited this dentist between 4 and 5pm, but today I was informed of a policy that requires children under 6 to be seen only from 9am-12pm, because the owner of the practice believes that children under 6 handle dental treatment better in the morning. Our son loved his dentist, was cool as a cucumber, and handled treatment extremely well at his 4-5pm appointments. It is absurd to generate a "one size fits all" scheduling policy, as all children are unique and may tolerate appointments based on a wide-range of variables that may or may not have anything to do with their age. My son is a 3 and only ever visited this dentist in the late afternoon between 4 and 5pm. Last visit - at 3 years and 4 months - he donned his sunglasses and sat quietly in the chair - and not on my lap - through the full cleaning with the hygienist and the brief examination by the dentist which followed. Bottom line is that it will be the impact of this policy that will negatively affect my son's ability to tolerate future dental appointments, as he will no longer be visiting the only dentist he's known. Having to start all over at a new practice, with a new dentist, in a new environment that is foreign to him is what will pose the greatest foreseeable challenge. Nonetheless, children are adaptable and I'm hopeful that whatever dentist we choose to replace Open Bright will be more appreciative of our business and have a less restrictive scheduling policy that actually makes sense for working families of children under 6. Disappointed to say the least, and we will be sharing this feedback with our wide network of Harlem families who often connect with each other for opinions and recommendations on providers for our children. read more

We WONT ever to be coming back to this office, we had an AWFUL experience the first time we were there, the MANAGER called Sean was very DISRESPECTFUL, he threatened us because my kid was distressed and crying while seating because the dentist had NO PATIENCE nor idea how to provide services to a kid, she even made him more frightened and also screamed at my son- this Sean told my kid to shut up and even told me a fee is charged when kids are "misbehaving" just like mine. In addition, he told me I wasn't able to control my child, and forbidding me talking to him while on the chair so he could stop being loud. I complained and no one, meaning no one from their office got back to us. And just to let you know providing pediatric services are more than just painting the place in soft colors and giving stickers. I originally selected Open Bright Pediatric because of the awesome reviews and I can take my son to the dentist without taking off because you are open until 4 or 5 pm. I can take him to his appointment without taking off of work or my son missing daycare. My son loves the abacus toys and books A is for Apple. My son has been coming to Open Pediatric since he was 8 months old and his appointment was at 3:00 pm on July 2019. This was his first dentist appointment. His next appointment for the dentist was Jan 2019 at 3:30 pm. Again, he enjoyed his visit. He enjoyed his visit in July 2019 at 4:00 pm as well and I am very satisfied until I get to the front desk! I was greeted by a face I have never seen before in Open Bright Pediatric. I told her my son's name and she told me his 6-month appointment would be in January 2020, I agreed. She continued and asked me for any date and time. I told her I work and it would have to be after 3 like the past three times he has visited the office. She states the dentist only wants to see little ones before 11 am or 12 pm. I'm confused now because his last three visits took place in the afternoon as I told her and she replied back that "I lucked up with this appointment". She continued to tell me "the call center gave me the late appointment". I laughed because the last two appointments came from the front desk, not the call center. I never received a letter and my previous visits I was never told he should come in the morning. This doesn't make sense to me. I don't feel comfortable taking him back to Open Bright Pediatric because of these "so-called" changes! read more

My daughter appointment was for 9:30am I arrived at 9:10a. My child was seated at 9:30am and was never seen by the doctor. Walked out the office at 10:15am so my child could return to school. The hygienists and dentists are good, the office manager, not so much. Be sure to double check your insurance plan before EACH visit. They may change being in/out of network at any time and not tell you. I received a call the morning of my child's appointment that we had a $300+ bill from two years of past 'copays' and I'd need to pay it at our visit. I've been going to their office for a few years because they were in network, I have never received a bill in any form from the office and was never notified of a change in network status. The Office Manager was condescending and didn't know what he was speaking about. I've asked to speak with the owner to discuss the issue, but have yet to receive a call back. I took my four year old to Open Bright Pediatric Dentistry. From the very beginning to the end, I was very impressed. In addition to it being stroller accessible, we were greeted with big beautiful smiles by everyone! It is extremely child friendly and clean with loads of toys and books. When it was my child's turn, he was escorted in by a lovely assistant who held his hand. He loved this! There were so many assistants, a huge staff with lovely smiles all there to help and to put my child at ease. The head dentist is amazing, also with an amazing smile! At the end, my child got a prize and a balloon. I will say that Open Bright is the Disney Land of pediatric dentistry. I highly recommend it for all children. read more

I had to update my review. After poor service I decided to switch dentists. I submitted a HIPPA request for my childrens' records (dropped it off) and then followed up with an email confirmation. I got a confirmation that I submitted and I responded great saying I expected 13 business days later (they have 10 business days to get the forms to you). I was trying to be nice and considerate given it was around the holidays. Did not get a response but thought that was okay. Last week I followed up with an email checking in and asking them to reach out to me if they did not expect to get me the forms. Again no response. Guess what today is 13 plus and still don't have the forms. Fast forward a couple of days and I had to call again finally spoke to Brian who after checking said that Shaun sent them. Nope. After checking spam I called back and asked him to forward the original email. He apologized for the delay. What I got were the records but not the original email which I take to mean that it was never sent. What's more annoying is that the information came from the same email that I had been emailing. So there were getting my emails just ignoring them and not doing what them were supposed to do. This makes sense as we did not have an open account with them. Don't go here. They aren't operating above board and if their Dentistry is any reflection of my interaction with the front office they are shoddy and unconcerned with doing a good job. I am done with that place. Their staff is utterly incompetent and has a big time attitude. Everytime I try to make an appointment for my daughter, I have issues with them saying that her insurance plan is not active when in fact it is. Last time I had to call my insurance three times to verify the status because Open Bright kept insisting that it was not active, and everytime the insurance said that her plan was active. Open Bright was finally able to confirm that I was correct (!). This time, I had an appointment scheduled for my daughter for this Friday. Open Bright again called to say, guess what, that my daughter's plan was not active. When I said to the woman that I didn't believe that was correct she replied "well, I am telling you that it is not active". I then called my insurance and they confirmed (again) that there was nothing wrong with our plan and that they didn't see any records that someone from a doctor's office had called. Please note: I am NOT the only one having these issues. I know at least two other friends that had the same issue (insurance and bad attitude). I expect to, when I'm visiting a medical/dental office, to be greeted with courtesy. The receptionist at this office ruined that dream for me. Upon entering, I was told that my son needed to be assigned to that office by my insurance. I told him I wasn't told that when I initially made the appointment, he told me that I was. How are you going to tell me what someone else told me?? I politely said okay, and proceeded to call my insurance provider so that I may "assign" my son to that dental office, I was on hold for 30 minutes and my son waa getting agitated as he had not eaten anything before we came because after doing research, I found out it was best to not feed him before a dental visit. The receptionist was obviously agitated that my son was acting like a typical, restless and hungry 16 month old and asked me to take him outside. I won't be back, which is sad, because I actually liked the dentist but the front of the house should be as warm and welcoming as the back of the house, even more so, actually. I have been bringing my 5 year old daughter here in since her first appointment at age 2. My daughter likes the toys, prizes and balloons but after our last visit (and several annoying issues over the years) I will be finding a new dentist for her. First off, the management of this place is poor. The staff can be rude depending on who you speak with. In the past, they have made mistakes about scheduling us. We showed up to our appointment and even though they gave me a confirmation card with the date and time on it, we were not in their schedule and we had to come back another time. I took off work and pulled her out of school for it. Also, I recently received a bill from them from an appointment 3 years ago! (We go every six months so why did they bill me 3 years later??) And the last straw, my daughter's appointment lasted over an hour when we last came in. The dentist spent less than 2 min. with us telling us all was good, THEN they did the xrays (which I thought was odd after the fact) and they sent us to wait outside in the waiting room for quite some time. Instead of calling us back in to discuss the xray results, the assistant came out and proceeded to tell us in the waiting room that my daughter had cavities, which upset her (my daughter burst into tears). When I asked to speak with the actual dentist, they reluctantly took us back. I would have liked the dentist to call us back to speak about my child's care confidentially, not to be told this while in the public space. When we did go back, the dentist seemed distracted and eager to send us on our way. I was polite and just wanted some questions answered but I feel like they handled the situation so poorly and my poor kid cried all the way home. It's a packed city dentist office so I feel like they are over loaded and poorly managed for the patient load they see. Balloons or not, I am going to look for a new dentist for my daughter.
