Dr. Vanessa is wonderful and wet love her but our schedules didn't match - so we've been going to Dr. Mallory Marquie and she's also amazing!!! Dr. Mallory too is a child whisperer and excellent at her craft. She approaches everyone with such great bedside manner and skill & explains in terms both children and parents can understand. As a physician, I deeply respect and value how this practice runs and how much care and attention the dentists and staff give to patients and their families. We have always had potential costs explained prior to proceeding and never had an issue with anything. Truly a special place - wish I had such dentists and such an office to which to go as a child. Be very careful, they put you through treatment and never tell you or guide you on costs that will or won't be covered. by the time you leave you get a big bill, told they will claim and then refund, but they don't give you a penny back! i had to chase them three times and the front desk is like a circus - they have no clue what they are doing. stay clear or ask them bluntly is it covered!!!! read more

This was the best dentist experience my daughters (or I, for that matter) have ever had. Dr Vanessa is a lovely pediatric dentist who made them feel completely at ease (so much so that my four-year-old was having a hard time saying goodbye). The practice is new and child-friendly, with cute pictures on the walls, TVs above the reclining chairs, pint-size furniture in the waiting area, and some educational toys to help explain brushing. Very impressed with the service here. Dr. Vanessa is a natural when it comes to interacting with kids. Her assistant was equally friendly and personable. Some pediatric doctors are great as doctors but horrible at socializing with children. This place really made my daughter happy and comfortable. Equally important is the fact that Dr. Vanessa took a good amount of time going through my daughter's file, explaining things to me and offering advice. She is not just all-business, as we see so often in medical professions. She treats you like a person, converses with you, and seems to have genuine interest and enthusiasm for her work. The office is very clean and kid-friendly. To be honest though, having seen the pictures online, I was a bit worried when I first walked in because all the walls in the reception area were badly scuffed and in need of a paint job. But upon closer inspection, it appears that the colorful kid chairs circling the perimeter of the room just have a tendency to mash against the walls and cause ugly scarring; everything else in the entire office was clean, cheery, and spacious. I only mention this minor drawback because it did give me a bad first impression. A good paintjob and protective plastic wall mounts would correct the issue easily. Great place for kids' dental care. My wife had the most excruciatingly difficult time trying to make an appointment for our twin 5 year-old daughters. The person who answers the phone kept insisting we pay in advance despite the fact that our insurance company spoke to that person directly, confirming the practice was in-network and the fee for check up and cleaning was covered at 100%. The person continued to insist on pre-payment citing the fact that our policy had an "out-of-pocket maximum." This simply means the policy will cover everything beyond a set amount in annual health costs. The person on the phone kept implying the out-of pocket was a deductible, which is an ENTIRELY different thing. The insurance company made clear there is NO DEDUCTIBLE for the IN-NETWORK services we were seeking. It's covered at 100%. That is the whole reason to seek an in-network provider! The person on the phone was condescending to my wife, when in fact it was her who had no idea how an insurance policy works. Instead of new clients who could have been patients for 10 years, we will go elsewhere due to what can only be perceived as a cynical money grab. read more

I brought my daughter here first at the age of 3 after a stressful experience at another pediatric dental office and had a great experience. We have been coming twice a year since (my daughter is now 6) and it's just great. Dr. Vanessa hits just the right balance to my mind of making sure there are no real dental issues and doing a good cleaning, and giving a child a relaxed experience and positive associations with going to the dentist. She asks thorough questions and gives good guidance to you as a parent as well. I also really appreciate that it's possible to schedule appointments via ZocDoc, which is so much better for finding a convenient time than trying to do it over the phone. The office waiting room is set up well, and my daughter would love a chance to spend more time in it, but we've never had more than a 5 minute wait. (We arrive on time.) read more

I previously loved this place and was happy to come all the way from queens to have my daughter be seen from an awesome staff of dentists but the last time I came I was completely unsatisfied. I drove from queens and was running behind ten mins when I spoke to the receptionist telling her I am walking to the office. She says great thanks for calling us back and to come into the office. When I reach there going on to 20 mins late because my lovely daughter was outside screaming because she's scared of the dentist the receptionist tells me to hold on and goes back to speak with the dentist and then comes back to tell me that they can no longer see me and to reschedule. I understand we were late and I'm sorry for that but she already had another patient she was seeing at my kids slot so what's the difference in seeing her a tad bit late. I'm not coming from 2 blocks away and the receptionist shouldn't have told me to come in when I called on the phone. I could've just turned back around and went home. Because of this I requested all my kids records and going to someone else. Sad because I honestly liked the dentist she was seeing. read more

These dentists are AMAZING! My 5 and 3 year olds LOVE coming to the dentist. Ipads in the waiting rooms, flat screen TVs in the exam chair and the most loving and kind personalities ever. My little one recently fell and hit his tooth. He needed an extraction. Poor little guy. Dr. Vanessa was so gentle and efficient. She took such good care of him--then called later that night to check on him. This place is the best--and they take insurance!!!!! read more

Dr Patel is INCREDIBLE, with a capital "I". Highly recommend. The office is clean and friendly with books and iPads to occupy yourselves with while you wait, and mounted horizontal flat screens above the chairs for the kids to watch while they get their teeth cleaned. We see Dr Patel, who is extremely sweet, amazing with kids, and her bedside manner could not improve-- it's impeccable. She spends loads of time with you on your visits, explaining what she's doing, taking her time, and answering questions. She even really acknowledges the kids and shows interest in them, chatting with them. She laughs and is kind and genuine is VERY knowledge in her field, obviously the most important part. I highly recommend her to everyone I know now. I now offer you this story, to prove her competency and actual dental work expertise.... Early on my sugar free, processed food free, juice free, breasted & solid eating 14m old son developed these black spots on his two front teeth, which is when I first scheduled to bring him in to be seen, but by another place-- Twinkle Dentist. The doctor there, Emilie, basically said there was nothing to be done but sustain their current state in hopes it doesn't worsen, but they were uncleanable, and unfixable. I of course asked a million questions about it and what it was, but she had no real answers for me. Just staining that couldn't be removed. Seemed so weird to me. After my switch to Tooth Works, my son walked out with the spots virtually gone! Dr Patel explained *exactly* what it was, and buffed them clean!! Because the nature of the pockets where the discoloration was, she couldn't get it 100% white again, but unless you stared up close you couldn't even see it anymore. (Whereas before you would notice simply when he smiled-- it looked like he had something stuck in his teeth, or had just eaten chocolate or something!). I was in shock. And so happy. She gave me instructions on an above average brushing regime and said as long as I maintained it diligently (and of course continued his sugar free diet), that it should absolutely not come back. And I have and it hasn't. He's now 4 years old and his teeth are beautiful and white. I don't know what Emilie at Twinkle Dentist was doing, or why she failed to have a clue a) what it was and b) how to clean (or even that it was cleanable), but the fact is, she essentially provided no service to me whatsoever. I'm so happy I am now Tooth Works and highly recommend Patel's expertise. read more

Our first experience at another Dentist for my then 3 year old son was traumatic as they asked his mother to hold him down as they tried to clean his teeth as he screamed. This place is totally different!!! Dr Patel took a great deal of time with my son. He was encouraged to touch all the instruments and was explicitly told what they would do and to feel things on his hand so he wouldnt be nervous. The Dr totally put him at ease and he really enjoyed the appointment. On the way home he was telling me that although he liked the strawberry paste he wanted to try chocolate next time and was eager to go back "soon". Apart from the wonderful interaction with the Dr, the facilities are modern, clean and filled with the latest technology. Ipads in the waiting room really put my son at ease from the moment he walked in the door - in addition to being able to watch Thomas the tank engine while in the chair. I took my 3 year old son here for his very first dental appointment. Dr. Patel was absolutely amazing - so kind, so energetic and friendly. She put both me and my son, completely at ease. My son unfortunately had to come back for another visit that same week because she found cavities. I thought he would be terrified to go back but he was actually excited! The procedure was quick and painless (Dr Patel and her colleague were incredibly quick and efficient, not to mention kind and encouraging) and my son left the office happy and proud of himself. Excellent experience! The office is very modern and kid friendly. Our visit was with Dr. Patel, she was very gentle thorough and informative. She explained every step while taking the time to discuss future treatments, prevention, and general everyday dental concerns and questions I had. The best part is my 9 year old has been giving me a problem to brush at night, she showed him how to properly brush and explained the importance and has been brushes with no hassle since. Dr. Sejal and her staff are awesome! We travel from Riverdale, so our kids can see the best dentist. She takes the time to explain to the parents and child, and she's great at educating the whole family about the importance of proper oral care. My daughter just had a filling, and I was so impressed with how Dr. Sejal reassured her and made her feel comfortable during the entire process. Dr. Patel did a good job with my child. However, I felt their fees were disproportionately high, even for NYC. Initial consultation was $400. Her proposed cost for 2 fillings was almost $1000. Took the kid to my own dentist, who disagreed with her assessment and did both fillings for $150. If they accept your insurance, then you're golden. If not, for what you get, I don't think it's worth it. read more

It was my son's first visit to a dentist today and he cried on the way there even though i tired to prepare him the best I could. Long story short: after the visit was over he said: "Mommy, I love the dentist and it was so much fun!!!" Dr. Vanessa was so patient, friendly and skilled at getting him interested in what she was doing. She explained everything so well to him and to me. We went over the daily dental hygiene regiments, proper flossing techniques and dietary requirements for strong, healthy teeth. She presented all the tools and instruments that she was using to my son so that he would be at ease throughout the procedure. She took x-rays of his teeth with ease, it was surreal to watch him be so calm and composed throughout it. The office is spotless, beautifully designed and equipped with (what looked to my lay-person's eye as top of the line equipment.) My son could pick out his favourite show to watch on an overhead monitor as soon as he sat down in the super-comfy chair. Both doctors are young, professional and have educational credentials to match their sweetness. Very happy with the visit! will definitely be coming back in six months for a follow up. We took our 2.5 year old daughter to Toothworks for her very first check-up to see Dr. Lugo-Hart (our daughter likes to call her Dr. Vanessa). She was very excited to see the extremely kid friendly reception area with an assortment of books, toys and iPads. Our daughter had no idea she was at a doctor's office! The exam room was also playful and fun, and Dr. Vanessa was so gentle and sweet that our daughter had no objection to opening her mouth and showing her teeth to the doctor. Very impressive. We were nervous about how horrible it could be, taking a terrible two to see her dentist, but it turned out amazingly well. After Dr. Vanessa talked to our daughter about good oral hygiene, our daughter is obsessed with her teeth brushing routine. We wish we had this kind of care when we were kids! read more
