What, you don't know what it's like? nevermind, one day little one,one day..... So Friday morning found us at a little ticket booth in the train station buying a couple of tickets to the Kulturbrauerei and to the said gig.. I'm not going to review the gig as I don't think you would be able to handle all of the !!!! and \,,/ that it would include, but at the end of the day the 5 stars are more for Dust Bolt and Kreator than the venue itself, although the venue (KesselHaus) was a really good place to hold such a gig, what with it's concrete walls and amply stocked bar being a rather nice feature : ) We got there at around 19:30 and staggered away at about 2am,having spent a great night in the company of some lovely German Metalheads enjoying some of the best Metal this great country has to offer. Ah,happy days \,,/

We went without much planning, but it was one of the best decisions ever…read more The music was great. I'm not a jazz expert, but I could tell that the band was very genuine and versatile. Tonight, it was also great to have an American band perform, so that we could understand what they were singing! Absolutely great acoustic as well. Service was very good. Everyone was kind, and I couldn't have asked for more. Ambience was the perfect balance of cozy and exclusive with fun and dynamic. Given the proximity between the audience and the stage, everything felt very intimate too. Highly recommend it if you're looking for a great jazz experience at a reasonable price!

I was expecting the drink prices to be extremely expensive but they weren't too high. A good Czech beer was 4 euros. It was very full indeed! We arrived a bit before midnight and they wanted to charge us 5 euros. We went to another bar and had a beer with those 5 euros and then went in for free after 00:30 ;) I would recommend it. The only thing is it's quite far from home :(

They have 2 music rooms, 1st one was house music and 2nd one was rap/r&b style. Place got packed and the party/energy was good. Great location right out of the Sbahn station. This place is apparently an old post office that has…read morebeen renovated and converted into a concert venue and club. Nice adaptive reuse, and with the location, not likely to have residential conflicts in the future. Likes: Bar areas in the concert area, and one just adjacent for getting a drink or two and still hearing the show without issue. Some seating in the outer bar area for those of us with a need for that on occasion (bad back = need to sit down once in a while) Dislikes: In spite of the no smoking signs, some douchebags were still lighting up in the concert hall, and security was not vigilant in making them stop it. The signs are only as good as the enforcement people. Minus 1 star for that fail. Design issue: The floor is flat, except for a few risers in the very back. That means the stage needs to be high enough so that the shorter patrons have some chance of seeing the show over Lurch. I saw some short girls craning to see anything - the stage needs to go up a few feet to improve sight lines for all. Coat check was generally efficient, bar staff multi-lingual and quite nice.

The show started promptly on time (not used to that kind of ting in the States) and the sound was amazing. All of the seating is on pretty big risers so it's relatively easy for everyone in the audiance to see even at a sold at show. Tickets were a little bit expensive by US standards and the New Years part of the evening was a dude (though the concert was great). Not sure who is responsible for that. Nice views of the river as well from inside.

Sometimes they also organize conferences. The entrance fee is never too high, generally you can afford it. The building has a lot of open space and is quite tranquil. I love the lighting: it's light inside but not too light, it has this cosy atmosphere. They have a restaurant and the whole thing is situated on the river, next to the Tierpark with rabbits hooping around. It's really a great place to visit.

Consequently you look, hear, see, watch, feel, dance, move, play or whatever people do while attending a concert. Ideal space for a crowd of approximately 1500 people or a bit more and everything a good gig needs: sound, vision, technics. It is clear that you won't suppose stadium rock bands at that place but more musicians who prefer to get in touch (literally) with their fans. Nice fave concert hall. We visited Huxleys to see Frank Turner on a bitterly cold January evening. This being my first gig…read moreoutside of the UK I was pretty excited to see how things would work, and Huxleys did not disappoint. The best way to describe the venue is like British venues, but better. Everything is so much more efficient, there's an excellent amount of space and the food options blow the Barras out the water. Crepes and cocktails? I'm sold! It wasn't ridiculously overpriced like some venues can be, either. There wasn't a great amount of seating available for an unreserved gig, which isn't the best when you've been travelling on your feet all day, however it was really well ventilated and the amount of space meant you didn't feel suffocated despite it being sold out. The tiered standing pretty much guarantees a decent view, which is really useful. If all venues in Germany are like Huxleys, I think I'll be visiting more in the future!

Of all the Berlin venues I've experienced, thus far, Astra ranks the lowest…read more It is, of course, a large venue that works well for certain concert experiences, but it's not what I would consider welcoming or inviting. The main issues I have with Astra are the mediocre acoustics, the disadvantageous layout (it's impossible to see anything if you're not in front), and the overall dirtiness of the place. Additionally, its location is right on the corner of Revaler and Warschauer = total foot-traffic clusterfuck. No thanks. One thing I do like is the security guardrail up front, which makes shooting photography at well-attended shows a breeze. But that aside, there aren't many redeeming qualities about this place.

Once you get in Theres a smokers zone which smells like hell, and even when it's not wide open you can smell it when you pass by. Inside there were really long lines at the bar but at least the whole area was smoke free. We got ourselves a beer and went to the main hall. So the main hall, Yep - where the stage is. Contained pretty much nothing, all the facilities are in the previous hall. There are 2 large columns pretty close to the stage which kinda block the view if you're planning to stand somewhere on the side. In addition to that the stage is pretty low so I had to stand on the tip of my toes to see something most of the show (I'm not short), it wasn't too comfortable for me and I'm sure the short girls behind didn't have a really good time either - maybe that's why they pushed me in order to get forward. It's a non smoking zone and of course people ignore it completely and light up an occasional cigarette with nobody to tell them to put it off. On the way out we chose to leave a little before the last song so things went a little smoother, but lines did pile up after we left. Some good things- sounds and lightning were great, and the show itself was pretty awesome with some cool vibes an mostly nice people. I'll probably go again if one of my favorite artists will came but I'm definitely not a big fan of this place.
