From afar, the Tempodrom looks like a magical place. But as you come closer, the magic fades away…read moreand is replaced by concrete. So was my experience when I visited the venue for the first time just last week; it's facade just wasn't that interesting to me. And in general, I tend to be skeptical of larger concert venues. However, Tempodrom really does deliver, as well as make the saying "don't judge a book by its cover" ring true. The inside is big, with plenty of room to navigate. The entrance itself is on a mezzanine-type level, with stairs up to the seats or down to the concert floor. There are plenty of bars, and though the prices are a bit more than smaller clubs, they still were less than I was expecting (for example, I paid €3,50 for a class of wine that is maybe a euro less at smaller spots). They also sell snack food, such as pretzels, which is kind of a nice touch. The sound was also fine. Granted I didn't try out many spots in the room, but other than being loud (more the bands than the sound itself, thank goodness for earplugs), it was a pleasurable listening experience.

In 1980, a humble West Berlin nurse, Irene Moessinger, realized a lifelong dream by investing her…read moreentire inheritance into a circus tent she named the Tempodrom. After a year, her circus was already bankrupt, but Berlin's city government stepped into save the venture and partnered her with Holger Klotzbach--a renown Cabaret man. The federal government invoked eminent domain in 1999 to forcibly relocate the Tempodrom concert venue away from the planned chancellor's office to the site of the former Anhalter Bahnhof. With private donations and the damages awarded by the German government the Tempodrom was converted into this permanent structure meant to evoke the shape of the circus tent that gave it its start. As with many large projects in Berlin, construction ended up costing twice as much as budgeted and led to a series of resignations over mismanagement charges.

I would like to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the so called "New Year party" on 31…read moreDecember 2014. 1) The place was said to be "am Potsdamer Platz". Well, it's not, it's about 600-700 m away. 2) The map on the ticket has shown a completely wrong place in Berlin (somewhere in suburb 15 km away!) 3) The queue... You've gotta be kidding me! There were, like 500 people in the queue, and more were coming and coming. 4) After the 1st queue to get the stamp on your hand, there was another queue to get into 5) After that - one more queue to leave the clothes in the garderobe which was extremely poorly organized - there was a chaos, useless students who were getting people's clothes and being extremely slow. The garderobe was in a lame plastic tent. 6) After that you end up in the yard! It was very cold. One more queue to enter the building. 7) Extremely many people inside. Huge and humiliating queues for the drinks and to the toilets (no, thanks) 8) The only thought I had is to at least get to the roof top, to see the fireworks, but nobody knew how. After a diligent search I've finally got to the entrance to the staircase, where I've been told this by a girl wearing a badge: - We are not allowed to take the stairs - The only way to get up is to take the elevator - Sorry, elevator is not working - No, she doesn't know when it's going to be fixed - No, there IS NO WAY UP My wife was even crying. The only thing left to do was to rush out as quickly as possible to get at least somewhere to see the fireworks. Unfortunately there was just 15 minutes left and the only place we could get to was Potsdamer Platz where we couldn't even see the "official" fireworks, because there are many high buildings around. Obviously, it was planned to happen like this by the organizers. They have sold too many tickets and the whole crowd would not fit on the roof (though, I've seen some shapes of the people there, so there obviously were some VIPs). I would be very happy if someone would file a lawsuit against them. Burn in hell, the organizers.
