After being in the toilets for all of two minutes, i came to leave the bar and the exit was blocked by an older and angry looking barmaid. She asked me very loudly in front of a group of people nearby if i was using the toilets, in which i replied "Yes". I was only to be told "Paying customers can use the facilities and if you're not a paying customer, then you pay 50 cents." I was mortified at being addressed like a naughty school child and totally embarrassed that she did this in front of a group of men. It was obvious that she wasn't going to let me leave and i felt very intimidated by her. So i apologized and paid her the 50 Cents. What made it worse was that she watched me count the coins before giving them to her, yet she counted them again once i gave them to her. I can understand now that yes, i probably should have asked. However being a girl who's from London-where nipping into a pub toilet quickly isn't a big deal-i would have liked to have been told this policy with a bit more respect and not been cast out this way- as i honestly didn't know that was their policy. It's pretty obvious now that i won't be returning to this bar and i'll be warning any other of my female friends too.

So that bartender said to stop, what we did, delete photos and get out of that bar. We apologized but he became more nervous and more rude. Sorry, I didn't know that I'm not allowed to take a picture of a sticker on the wall in a public place. Wish him to be treated the way he treats others. And all of you to find a better bar (luckily there are many of them in this area) And the owners, please, if that's so important, make this "no pictures" sign more noticeable for our kind of customers)))

A pretty great beer garden to hang out for an afternoon…read more Even on those painfully hot summer days (like the one we had yesterday) it's still reasonably pleasant out here under the shade of the umbrellas and nearby trees. The beers are large and cold, the burgers freshly grilled with a nice char, and the proximity to Berghain guarantees quality people-watching throughout the day. The grill is a bit pricey, with burgers for 7 EUR (no cheese) and a small plate of fries for 2 EUR, but it's all high-quality and tasty as hell. The burger comes topped with grilled onions and a cranberry relish that is outstanding. The fries are so satisfyingly salty to counterbalance an afternoon of Radlers and Alsters.

The beers are always very solid, tasty brews; not the most unique styles but they satisfy my craft beer cravings. The menu also includes some small food plates (I haven't tried them yet) and some liquor and non-alcoholic drinks. If you like whiskey, they have a few good options for pretty cheap prices. It's small but has just enough space to relax with a couple of friends and enjoy the vibe. No one bothers anyone here. You'll find people of all kinds and all ages. The walls are covered with super cool photos and posters, telling the story of everyone who's passed through and the great music that's played. If you're in Berlin, you have to check it out.

Filled to the brim with punk rockers of all ages and cheap beer, it's a great place to knock back a few before a gig, a good precursor to an all night clubbing stint, or the kind of place you can chill out in all night. Beers are the usual Berlin fayre - Astra, tons of big bottles of Weiss beer, Edelweiss etc etc. It's unpretentious, comfy, as bedraggled as a stray cat and I loved it. We started to frequent this place since, despite its grimy interior, the bar staff and locals are actually very friendly. Had some great unexpected nights out in here and would definitely return.

After arriving from a night from hell in Paris, this hostelboat made us feel right at home…read more Long story short from Paris: bags stolen, fraud victims, no cash, camera lost, almost missed 6am flight to Berlin, schizophrenic guest at Paris hostel and I had to wear my winter coat and leather jacket for the whole flight because my carry on was too large. Night/day from hell. Anywho. The staff was wonderful. They let us use all of their outlets to charge our things, helped us around the area so we could get to the Western Union for money, let us have a private room with private bathroom. It was a bit of a walk to Alexanderplatz, where we began most of our sightseeing, but we got to see cool bits of the Berlin wall along the way. We also did a bike tour (cheesy, I know) and it was the best thing we could have done to see the city. At night the boat turns into a club/pub with live music and lots of beer. It is a great place to pre-game before heading out at around 1am ;) We stayed here for just two nights but I really wish we had more time. I absolutely LOVED this spot. Waking up on a river in Berlin is something everyone should do once in their life. As long as you wake up fully clothed and in this hostelboat - well, clothing can be optional ;)
