I have been going here for so long, I think I have been through three locations. When I was ever at the first ones, I was with a parent or grandparent shopping for Magic and Star Wars stuff when I was younger, usually there for single cards which I started buying as a kid. It was really great to have a shop for cards back then as it was a lot less popular and I could pretty much always rely on OP to have something I was interested in. I started getting into Magic again around the time the newest location opened, and it was a cool experience to get into again there. Big celebrity opening, offered way more official events, just seemed like it would be perfect, but nothing ever is. Not that I dislike the store at all, but the consistency of my experience has gone down overall. A good few of the usuals are toxic players here which is pretty sad, but I still managed to start playing EDH here and learned really well mostly thanks to the community upstairs, and I managed to trade in a bunch of Pokemon cards from my childhood collection for a decent price that gave me a bunch of starter capital for EDH and newer Pokemon sets. I have managed to started playing a few games at casual cEDH tables upstairs now but still have yet to do any tournaments. I went from a complete casual player to a collector and enthusiast player in under a year playing there in my free time and the weekends. The events they hold are small but nice and always through official apps to get all rewards available. They also have some kind of event happening almost every single day; definitely over half of the days there is some kind of event. And, despite some of the somewhat valid complaints in general about pricing here, they have fair trade pricing on all new sets of any TCG release, guaranteed and they get their initial stock from the official retailer. They do also buy from customers though who are often times scalpers but they do need to make a profit and the scalping problem isn't their fault. OP themselves generally discourage things like scalping and often have product buy limits. And, through it all, I still manage to get good deals. And the right employees I like there are honest too and they always will honor sticker price on a card, so if something went up that day you will get a steal here. So to people saying the store is just out to make money, honestly, give them a break. Not only have I managed to get cards for like 60% of TCG value for hot singles, they have a huge, ever expanding 3 for $1 uncommons bin for MTG and a $10 slabbed TCG Pokemon card section next to it too now. Just because they bought some things from scalpers to increase their selection doesn't mean they have no good deals but you do have to look sometimes. Also, to the people who criticize their pricing on boxed or new packs or boxes of cards, they can only buy from the retailer once per release apparently. After their initial stock is gone they are really having to rely on other people for inventory just like everyone else. If you really think you'd rather see nothing on the shelf rather than something a bit too expensive, just go to another store; this place chooses to have a huge selection and not limit themselves. There are also definitely members of staff I highly dislike. Just as other reviewers have said, some of the workers treat being asked to find something specific even if it is meant to be behind the counter as a chore. There are good workers there a lot of the time trying to make up for it, but it can be a little disappointing considering the bad times are always pretty noticeable and do lessen the experience of being in the shop. Today I went in for a specific card and they didn't have it, but the employee there I like spent a ton of time looking through the binders in the back of the counter for it and found other things I wanted because they went into the binders. Other times I have asked for something not in the case, I have unfortunately been told, quote "If it's not in the case, we don't have it". You didn't even check your binder, how would you know? So at the end of the day, TLDR, this place isn't perfect but that is honestly because nowhere is. There is a choice shops can make to either buy from customers for stock or not. OP games chooses to keep stock going and keep its shelves stocked with lots of options even if the price has to be a bit higher on some things. The customer service can be pretty hit or miss, but the overall experience walking into the shop is generally quite good. All of that plus they have a great area to play whichever games you want upstairs and a community to play with. I don't think you can ask for much more than that. read more

OP Comics & Games was better before it moved and "OP" wasn't just a clever abbreviation. When they renamed it, they really should have called it "OP Games & Comics"...or maybe just "OP Games" because that's clearly their focus now. Looking for the current issue of a comic? Unless it's one of a couple dozen major titles like Spider-Man, good luck. They won't have it. They've got assorted back issues, But not a huge selection. Except for a small area by the entrance, the rest of the store is dedicated to gaming. If you want to play some TCG stuff, this is probably the place to do it. If you want comics, don't even bother...but at least there's SOME new comics, unlike a certain other store in Railroad Square. read more

Great store!! Great service!! They have great Magic section and usually have the cards I am looking for. They hold pre release tournaments and have a modern night as well. They also have a big comic book selection and all the DnD pleasantries you may be looking for. They have an area upstairs to slang some spells or take your buddies on that epic quest read more

The employees were friendly and helpful. I had a good experience in the store. They talked to me and recommended a magic card deck based on what I was looking for, and it was great. Then when I got home I saw that I could have got what they sold me, for literally half the price online. Mind you, this was the item that they pushed me to buy, and recommended me. I had already opened it, and they refused to let me return it because it was opened, and didn't care that someone pushed me to buy an overpriced item. It seems like a lot of their other magic card prices are more aligned with market value, but I wouldn't trust them in the future ever again. read more

My husband and I had seen this store from the freeway and decided to stop by. This place has been converted into a haven for gamers, including a good selection of table top games, dice, figures, paint and related supplies, trading cards, snacks, drinks, and an upstairs area for actual games being played. There is also a section of the store dedicated to comics and graphic novels. The staff greeted us when we arrived, and were friendly and welcoming. The store was brightly lit and just felt like a comfortable place to be. If I still lived in Santa Rosa I would definitely come back to see about meeting local folks for RPG gaming! read more

If you're looking to play tcg and tabletop games with the local community, this place is honestly great. There is one glaring flaw however, an especially egrigious one for this type of store. And that is how overpriced sealed products and singles are, especially when it comes to Pokemon. I am well aware of the current Pokemon boom, all the scalping, and the high demand for the cards are. However it is very disappointing to see even 1-2 dollar cards being priced at 4 dollars, and even cards that are currently at 25 dollars being priced at 50 dollars in this shop. When asked if the store would be willing to budge on the price, the employees said they couldn't do much and the price is what it is despite being well above other competing shops in the same city. So overall, come here for the community, don't actually buy sealed products and singles here. read more

I was really excited to go card shopping today. As of late, I have been downsizing and consolidating my Pokémon collection, and thought it'd be fun to bring a stack of cards with me to trade-in. Per TCGplayer, the approximate value of my trade-in card lot was roughly $45. I knew good and well that I would not receive full-value for trade, but was hoping to amass an 80% appraisal (this was based on my previous experience with a LGS in a different city). I'm also aware that trade-ins with a LGS always go in their favor, but I enjoy supporting local businesses and wish to keep the community's comic and game hobby strong. In fact, months earlier, I donated heaps of playmats, coins, pins, card sleeves, jumbo cards, and code cards to this very establishment. Regrettably, today's transaction did not go as planned and I cannot picture myself returning. This isn't a complaint about the employees (they were accommodating), nor is it a critique of the atmosphere; it's truly a beautiful storefront with lots of positive energy and a broad product selection. My grievance is with their trade-in value policy. After surrendering my cards to the clerk and filling out the form (31-full art Pokémon trainers, near mint condition). The employee passed them along to his supervisor, only to return with an offer of $15 store credit. I was stunned and questioned their appraisal. $15 amounted to 33.48% of the TCGplayer value. Coincidentally, my wallet was full of cash ready to burn and the trade-in was merely to add to my big splurge. But, not only did I decline the insulting $15 offer, I left without making a purchase. So, to those reading this, please be advised, your trade-ins may be appraised at 33% of fair-market-value. read more

Lots of variety was quite pleased with the selection of things they had. And prices is what I was expecting a little above average but that's how it is. However the service was downright terrible, they really need to get the dude with long black hair trained better or flat out fired, I wasn't greeted upon when I walked in, he in fact made eye contact with me then turned his back to me and started to walk away. I was whatever about it at first but then I noticed he started saying hello to EVERYONE else that had walked in and then I was like ah ok something's wrong here, I must be giving off some sort of bad vibe. After a bit I was ready to purchase but every time I was signaling for assistance he would deliberately pass me up to help the next person, he did this continuously for the next 4-5 customers, this guy obviously has something against me, I mean you can't be everyone's friend right? So then after about 20 minutes of me just standing there he finally asked me if I've been helped yet, I chuckled a bit and said I was ready. I really couldn't believe how this guy was treating me, what's even more ridiculous is that there was this gentleman who walks up and inquired about selling some of his art and guy behind the counter started talking down to him like he just insulted him or something, it was quite the awkward moment, I felt bad for the guy I wanted to say something but I chickened out. Guy behind the counter basically told him to screw off and look up this website then come back to talk about it to see if they even would take it. Then he asks him is there anything else? I can tell that the customer really wanted to give him a piece of his mind but he held off and he just left. I feel let down because this place was supposed to be cool! Do not buy Pokemon cards here ! This store is the most overpriced store I have ever been to please save yourself and literally go anywhere else. The employees stand in line at target, Walmart, etc. and buy everything off the shelves and sell it for 3x-5x the price. Their prices are 2x market price which is insane! Picked up what from all outward appearances was a a board game. Got home, opened it up, was not an actual game, just fancy fold outs for a game. Zero indication on the box that it was not the actual game. No rule book, no pieces to play, no board to play on. Not a game, certainly not a box worth $70. Returned to the store three days later to return it, with receipt, all box contents perfect, and they refused to return it, saying they cannot accept opened board games. Very rudely said they were sorry I was not happy with the purchase and told me to leave. read more

I went into this place looking for a couple of cards for my commander deck. They have a very good selection of mtg cards, but the workers are not very friendly. Aside from the workers being rude the mark up on the prices at this place is rather ridiculous. For instance Dockside extortionist market price on TCG $80 this place is selling their same copy for $110. When I asked why is it $110 when on TCG it's $80 the dude snapped at me saying well that's what it is and we don't price match. I get making money but I'm not use to a place that sells magic card that doesn't go by TCG market price. Every other place I've been to that sell magic cards match TCG market price. I checked several cards in that place and the ones I check were marked up by a significant amount. I wouldn't recommend going here if you have other options. read more

Great store with a bunch of product old and new. They have a variation of things so they will probably have what you're looking for from Tcg's to collectible figures and comics and more, can't forget they have a hangout/ tournament area on some days located upstairs. The staff that I've dealt with has always been great from Martin and the young lady always helping me and my son out with our Pokémon slections. I'm a pretty usual customer there I'd say probably stop by once a week and every experience has been a great one. I've recommended it to a bunch of friends who I've took or have stop by and everyone else has loved it so stop by and say hello. read more
