Ooki has a few negatives so let me get this out of the way first: - In the weekend you need a reservation (and days in advance! I tried making an online reservation on Thursday for the weekend and they were completely booked). - They do not open for lunch in weekends. - I wish they served Oden Despite this I absolutely want to give this Izakaya a five star review. They absolutely get the atmosphere of a Japanese Izakaya which is super hard to find in Europe. All the Japanese staff is super accommodating and friendly plus they are super prompt despite the fact that the place is always filled to the brim. Obviously, since it is an Izakaya, they quite a bit of drink options but they have even more options on their food menu. True to Japanese style their food is simple but oh so good! Their gyoza are superb, not at all comparable to the frozen jobbies you typically get in your average Asian joint. The Tempura is light and fluffy and their Tantanmen are super addicting. First time I took the medium spicy version thinking that it would probably not be very spicy as Swiss spice is typically lame but I was on fire! This is a must have dish. Everytime I go I over-order and over-eat but all their dishes are just amazing so this is a true treat if you love Japanese food. Highly tecommended!!

Best seasoned dishes in this Japanese restaurant im town! and real fluffy, light tempura!

    1. Make a reservation for this place. Their. online system is quite easy to use or just gove them a call. This place has the best seasoning in my opinion. I find many Japanese spots in Zurich quite bland but that might just be my personal preference. I like my dishes well tasted and seasoned. The food is just amazing and I absolutely adore the interior. Its gives off a very nice vibe.

In one word: Awesome! Looking for authentic Japanese ramen? This is the place. Ooki San is the ramen master and his tantanmen is incredible and addictive. Ino is the restaurant manager who recommends eating early (tables are scarce around 20:00) Gavin suggested tantanmen and, if you like spicy ramen - this is your dish. I'll expand on the review as I experience additional dishes.

Random eggplant which could be better described by appalling rather than appealing.

Food was kind of good despite the price BUT the staff is just atrociously horrible. The waitress was beyond unfriendly and low-key insulted us due to us not terminating our meal. She picked at our food and made inappropriate comments as well as ignoring our risen hands multiple times, obviously brushing us aside while not even being busy doing anything else. Incredibly long waiting times. A perfect example for a lazy work-attitude. While I did like the food, such actions are simply egregious and by the way, ordering a vegan meal costs 1 CHF EXTRA for no apparent reason. She even made mistakes like putting twice the amount of items onto the bill, in an attempt to steal our hard-earned money. Items on the menu are set to a lower cost than their actual price. If you are looking for a good Japanese restaurant in Zürich, Yu-an is by far the better choice. By the way, she even went as far as telling us that chicken gyoza tastes like vegetable gyoza, ridiculous. These and many more were the reasons for us not even enjoying a dessert in the end.

Tantanmen had sesame oil flavors and the shoyu broth was very light but a bit bland for me so I added the extra sauces they had on the table. The noodles are made fresh in restaurant and they have a clear glass so you can see it being made if you're lucky. It was pretty cool watching one of the workers make it. The noodles definitely tasted great and was authentic. This ramen place is a bit on the pricier side and my friend said the prices were noticable raised but she loves this place so much, it didn't bother her. There are public bathrooms downstairs that they keep taken care of. As soon as you sit, they have clear separating glasses between tables which feels very sanitary, I love it. The ramen served is very aesthetic. I love the way they write their slogan on the nori. My favorite part is that they give you a bib to wear which was easy to put on. Both my friend and I definitely needed it because we both had soup spills on our bibs haha service was nice and they have wifi as well. This place seems to get packed very easily!

I unwrapped the fragrant bamboo leaves and devoured the sweet, savory, and slightly spicy goodness of glutinous rice stuffed with shitake, mini dried shrimp, pork, cooked peanuts, and salted duck egg as soon as I got home. Chinese vegetables like Choy Sam which you'll get for about $1 a bunch in Chinatown in NYC is almost CHF 5! Kimchi is out of the question--I only saw about 4 brands, in small glass jars of in plastic bags (very strange) and they were 8.95 for the largest jar which I could prob eat in one sitting easily. There are LOTS of sauces like hoisin, black bean, Szechuan, various hot sauces, soy sauces, fish sauces, etc. I saw curry pastes in more varieties and sizes than at Chiang Mai, but the prices were comparable. The best thing about this place is the ramen selection because they have an entire row dedicated to Korean brands and Shin ramen is CHF 1.45 a packet, no discount for buying in bulk or in the 5-pack (so unfair!) which is the same as an overpriced corner market in central Manhattan. So although it is hard on the wallet, what is a Korean girl to do? You need your ramen once in a while. There is a sizeable dumpling and various dim sum selection section and seafood including calamari, shrimp, squid, scallops, etc but I'm still not used to buying seafood in frozen form instead of fresh like you see at any Whole Foods or in a Chinatown. I'll have to update my review after I actually try the pork frozen dumplings I got such were CHF 20 for a bag (JEEEEEEEEzus) which again, in NYC Chinatown would be about $5. I was disappointed by the produce section because in Korean markets in the U.S., that is the best part with tons of selection and unbeatable prices. Unfortunately the produce they had was scarce and incredibly overpriced. I might as well go to Coop in Sihlcity for more variety. I did notice that what they had seemed fresher than Barkat but I may have visited in the earlier part of their delivery schedule. I've posted lots of pictures of the variety of products they have but as someone who doesn't cook Asian food often, it was hard to tell what most of the stuff was. I did find packets of ja-choy (the "Chinese kimchi") though so will have to try it. Also although they had credit card machines, they demanded cash. Not cool when you're spending CHF 50!

Ideal for a relaxed lunch or dinner, though best with a reservation due to its size. Pros: * Fresh, generously portioned sushi -- reviewers rave about "huge fish portions" and delicious, high-quality taste . * Top-notch ramen-- Tonkotsu and Tantanmen are consistently praised, with one reviewer noting the "delicious Tonkotsu & Tantamen Ramen, authentic flavors, carefully prepared fish, and friendly staff" . * Homemade gyoza and sauces--a highlight for many, "Hand made Gyoza. Even the sauce they serve is hand made" . * Warm, attentive service in a small, inviting space . * Great value for the quality, mid-range pricing around CHF30-40 per person . Cons: * Limited seating, as it's a cozy, compact restaurant--better reserve ahead. * Slightly on the pricier side for ramen or gyoza (~CHF10 for 4 pieces), though fans say it's worth it .

We ordered the sashimi mix, the hamachi carpaccio with ponzu, some marinated tofu and sake. We were told that they were out of hamachi so we choose the salmon carpaccio instead. The food was simply disappointing: the salmon carpaccio with shichimi sauce was not sliced thin at all. It looked like salmon sashimi with what looked like a bland black bean sauce. The sauce has not at all the spicy shichimi sauce I was expecting. The sashimi mix was even worse, it was simply sad. It consisted out of 6 slices of tuna and salmon sashimi of very low quality. I swear, I've had better sashimi at the supermarket. In addition, the waitress was rude, she was constantly chatting about on her phone in Mandarin and when we asked for a suggestion of another dish she just shrugged. I asked if they had Yakatori but she seemed to have no clue so we decided to go somewhere else to continue eating. Yes, we went to a second restaurant that evening, unfortunately that was after feeling hugely disappointed by Maki Haus and dropping 90 CHF. Not going again.

I started with a miso soup, which was perfect in taste, though fairly small in volume. My main order was the chirashi "sushi" dinner, which is actually a heap of de-constructed sushi in a large bowl (rice at the bottom, fish and other items -- like a huge clump of wasabi -- on top). The chirashi was perfect in all respects; especially, I thought that the quality of fish was exceptional. I made the mistake of eating a clump of "something" in the bowl without looking; this turned out to be the wasabi -- sad! At Bimi, and elsewhere, it's best to pay attention to what goes in your mouth. There was a large variety of shochu on the menu. I ordered a shochu somewhat randomly (taking the second one from the top, if I remember correctly). It was served with water, over ice -- I enjoyed the drink and thought it was a fine accompaniment to the chirashi. I got tastes of a starter salad and a bowl of matcha ice cream with red beans. The salad was A-OK, and the ice cream made a wonderful dessert.
