Miso Soup - don't need the spoon though, too big here :)
    Theresa W.

I just moved to the city (this area) and found Bimi in the Yelp suggestions when looking for a nice place to have lunch by myself. The place was really packed for a weekday but I got lucky and got a seat - I offered to sit at the bar because I was alone but they kindly offered me a table. I ordered the special bento box because I had read good comments here and a green tea - they were out of one of the bento box ingredients so I ordered a sushi lunch but then they came back to offer me a slightly changed bento, which I gratefully ordered. The food came very quickly which I enjoy a lot around lunch time. The bento box was really delicious and a generous serving. The soup was good but I would prefer another component as you already get a miso soup as a starter (make miso soup optional with a salad or something?), I would have preferred some tempura instead. Other than that, next time I would go for the smaller bento box for two reasons: 1. The big one is too big of a portion for me for lunch 2. The sashimi that comes with the big one was a 6/10. -2 for taste, -1 for really small pieces (half of what o would call generous size) and -1 for missing ginger. I will definitely come back to try more sushi and see if the pieces are bigger in the regular sushi/sashimi dishes. Then I'm definitely giving star no. 5!

    Bento Box

Prices are a bit steep for dinner, but I have come to this place a couple times for their great bento boxes. They are of highest quality and in my view quite a steal at CHF 19.50 in terms of price / value. If you want a great lunch experience in a nice setting with good service, this is the place to go. The weekly rotating bento boxes are described online and usually come with two main "courses", rice and a couple side dishes. Additionally, a miso soup is served, which is also of highest quality and one of the best ones I have had.

Very nice place. Lots of Japanese people so I guess it's a good sign the food's close to what they are used to. Had the best miso soup I ever had. Slightly expensive but totally worth it if you wanna taste Japanese food. I recommend everything they bring you in pots and cook on your table. Decoration/ambiance could be better

    Bento box

Had lunch here a couple weeks ago with the BF and it was very good. I ordered the bento box because it makes the most sense to me, money wise and also for the variety that comes inside. I believe their boxes change once weekly. Mine included some pickled veggies, cold japanese omelette, grilled salmon, potato salad, fried dumplings, white rice and miso soup! The salmon was great, dumplings great, rice normal, miso soup amazing, but the potato salad reminded me of american picnic potato salad..which I like but have no idea what made it japanese... and the omelette was just not my cup of tea. Give me an omelette any day but the temperature of my eggs I like to be...how do I put this...hot? Haha I am not a fan of cold eggs. Ew ew ew ew ew. lsjdflsjdflk. Overall it was a great meal and service and interior were both good too. For the money I think it is a nice experience and great quality. I am excited to go back :)

Great Japanese restaurant, traditional one, not "gourmet". Only observation is the price, which is as every food in Switzerland, expensive.

Very good food. Could work on the ambiance a bit. Not the most cosy of places in the evening.

Tantanmen had sesame oil flavors and the shoyu broth was very light but a bit bland for me so I added the extra sauces they had on the table. The noodles are made fresh in restaurant and they have a clear glass so you can see it being made if you're lucky. It was pretty cool watching one of the workers make it. The noodles definitely tasted great and was authentic. This ramen place is a bit on the pricier side and my friend said the prices were noticable raised but she loves this place so much, it didn't bother her. There are public bathrooms downstairs that they keep taken care of. As soon as you sit, they have clear separating glasses between tables which feels very sanitary, I love it. The ramen served is very aesthetic. I love the way they write their slogan on the nori. My favorite part is that they give you a bib to wear which was easy to put on. Both my friend and I definitely needed it because we both had soup spills on our bibs haha service was nice and they have wifi as well. This place seems to get packed very easily!

I looked at the menu before going and was super excited but to be honest, the host was not very friendly at all. She gave my friend and I a look and apparently we were not up to her standards or maybe she is a snooty person? Our waiter had the same attitude at first, he did not give any explanation on the menu, except that he volunteered info that we could opt for a glass of wine instead of a bottle if we wanted to save some money (not kidding!). However, when the food arrived we were in heaven! All the dishes were AH-MAH-ZING. I honestly don't know what was the best: the Hamachi with yuzu & truffle was super delicious, the dressing complemented the fish instead of overpowering it. I was super hesitant about the eggplant nigiri sushi but my friend wanted it and it surprised me pleasantly. In addition, the sashimi was by far the best one I had in Switzerland. I also want to point out that the matcha chiffon cake was a big hit, even for people like me who are typically not big on desserts. I must also admit that our waiter seemed to mellow up once we ordered food and drinks, he was very happy to give us recommendations of Japanese whiskey to finish our meal and the manager gave us free shots to end the evening - so I guess the initial awkwardness disappeared. However, I still think that restaurants should be welcoming to everyone, regardless of how much they spend, hence, I am not giving it a full 5 star review. So this is a super high 4 star review, overall I had a great night at Hato, maybe 5 star is in their future because I will definitely revisit.

I can see how some people would find her to be defensive with regard to her food. I think she is very passionate about her product, and that may come off the wrong way. She is definitely verbose, which can be a bit overwhelming, but her heart is in the right place, and she truly cares about her business. Let me tell me you about the what she did for us. My wife wrote her an email at about 10 am asking if there was any availability for lunch that same day. She responded immediately and allowed us to book the omakase. We were unaware of this, but it's actually a holiday in Zurich and the town is quite desolate. We showed up and were the only people booked for lunch. Mind you, this is a Michelin star restaurant (deservedly so), so they weren't anticipating any walk-in diners. She opened the restaurant to us, and she and her chef personally waited on us for a 2 hour omakase meal as the only guests. Most owners would not have responded and stayed closed for lunch. She took the route of being a good proprietor and gave us one of the best meals I can recall. The first dish was a corn tofu in a wasabi broth. It's the best thing I have eaten in my 10 days in Switzerland. It was followed with a delicious fresh oyster in ponzu, and then a tartare of bluefin tuna. Exceptional in quality of the ingredients and technique on every dish. The sushi courses featured a creamy miso soup, more blue fin, mushrooms, and kingfish. The kingfish was my favorite, but every one was a delight. The squid tempura with shiso was perfect, served with green tea salt on the side. I could have eaten that alone and been happy. Fatty tuna and wagyu finished out the savory dishes, with a black sesame ice cream and fresh strawberries. There were no missteps on this menu. While I have certainly had everything on that menu in one form or another, none had ever been prepared with that level of skill and quality of product. I have eaten in several Michelin starred restaurants this week, including a 2 star in Geneva. This restaurant is far superior to all of those, easily the best food I have had in Switzerland, and probably the best sushi in Europe. The owner seems to play down the interior of the restaurant as not being worthy of a Michelin star. I disagree. It's sleek, elegant, and serene. Based on the reviews, you might not like the owner, I do, but either way the product that is being put out is second to none. I cannot recommend this restaurant more.
