3.5 stars but rounded up to 4 stars…read more I love love sushi, I consider it a food staple and when I first moved to Zurich I tried the sushi at COOP which was expensive and awful. So I started packing my bags, to leave Switzerland but halfway boxing my stuff up I decided to give Yooji's a try. It was for sure not super good sushi but acceptable enough not to move :-) Yooji'in Bellevue has two sections with two separate entrances but internally linked: one Kaiten-sushi (conveyor belt) restaurant section and one take-away where you can buy ready made sushi. The sushi is not bad if you compare it to what you can get in the supermarket but the price is the same, so for Zurich this is reasonably priced. For lovers of specialty rolls, their selection is quite limited but I am not a huge fan of them anyway. I had much better sushi at this price point before, just not in Switzerland and I am already content that I can eat some a-ok sushi without breaking the bank. Oh and extra bonus points for their hours: they are open daily from 11 am to 11 pm, also on Sundays.

Went twice, just to make sure... as they say, the state of the toilet reflects the quality of the food. ;-) They ran out of green tea mochi ice cream though, but I had the mango and passionfruit ones, and they were delicious. Next time I will try the other flavours. Crikey! The white wine Roero Arneis (Italian) was really lovely. Must say wine and fish makes a good marriage. ;-)

The chicken teriyaki was really juicy and flavorful and came with a pretty yummy smattering of vegetables on the side. I was surprised at how juicy the chicken was. It wasn't dry at all. Delicious. With a glass of chilled white wine, my dinner cost about CHF 70. Kind of pricey, but a fairly yummy dinner.

I started with a miso soup, which was perfect in taste, though fairly small in volume. My main order was the chirashi "sushi" dinner, which is actually a heap of de-constructed sushi in a large bowl (rice at the bottom, fish and other items -- like a huge clump of wasabi -- on top). The chirashi was perfect in all respects; especially, I thought that the quality of fish was exceptional. I made the mistake of eating a clump of "something" in the bowl without looking; this turned out to be the wasabi -- sad! At Bimi, and elsewhere, it's best to pay attention to what goes in your mouth. There was a large variety of shochu on the menu. I ordered a shochu somewhat randomly (taking the second one from the top, if I remember correctly). It was served with water, over ice -- I enjoyed the drink and thought it was a fine accompaniment to the chirashi. I got tastes of a starter salad and a bowl of matcha ice cream with red beans. The salad was A-OK, and the ice cream made a wonderful dessert.

"Shall we get takeout?" my bf asked, and I readily agreed. After all, we had just flown back from a weekend trip, and the fridge was empty at home. Images of Panda Express danced in our heads as we went inside to order. Ah... just like the good 'ol days back in America! :) We looked at the already-cooked food options and settled on a beef stir-fry and chicken dish. Paired with steamed rice, it was the perfect late lunch to go. Awesome! The place looked a bit sparse but clean, and it was open on Sunday, woot! Then it was time to pay. CHF 33!! Say what?? This ain't no Panda Express. Welcome back to Switzerland, baby. :/ The food was pretty tasty, but very salty--almost too salty. Thank goodness we had gotten the regular steamed rice instead of the fried rice or pan-fried noodles I was eyeing earlier. The beef dish was surprisingly spicy. I normally don't find really spicy foods in Zürich, so that was interesting. The chicken was a bit sweet. Both dishes had very tender meats, yum. And the portions were quite generous. We only ate about half of each dish and had enough leftover for dinner later that night. :)

I had the most amazing duck salad I've ever had in my life, with a lemon lime vinaigrette fresh finish, a beautifully prepared perfectly cooked sea bass, accompanied with the perfect sides. I was so full but could not leave out the beautiful desert. Hato is on my top 5 list with Joel Robuchon, French Laundry, morimoto's and Alain Ducasse's worldwide places. Greatness all around...5 stars!!

I looked at the menu before going and was super excited but to be honest, the host was not very friendly at all. She gave my friend and I a look and apparently we were not up to her standards or maybe she is a snooty person? Our waiter had the same attitude at first, he did not give any explanation on the menu, except that he volunteered info that we could opt for a glass of wine instead of a bottle if we wanted to save some money (not kidding!). However, when the food arrived we were in heaven! All the dishes were AH-MAH-ZING. I honestly don't know what was the best: the Hamachi with yuzu & truffle was super delicious, the dressing complemented the fish instead of overpowering it. I was super hesitant about the eggplant nigiri sushi but my friend wanted it and it surprised me pleasantly. In addition, the sashimi was by far the best one I had in Switzerland. I also want to point out that the matcha chiffon cake was a big hit, even for people like me who are typically not big on desserts. I must also admit that our waiter seemed to mellow up once we ordered food and drinks, he was very happy to give us recommendations of Japanese whiskey to finish our meal and the manager gave us free shots to end the evening - so I guess the initial awkwardness disappeared. However, I still think that restaurants should be welcoming to everyone, regardless of how much they spend, hence, I am not giving it a full 5 star review. So this is a super high 4 star review, overall I had a great night at Hato, maybe 5 star is in their future because I will definitely revisit.
