I found ramen in Zurich and it is totally deliciousssssssssss!!!!! We were wandering around one day and thought this place looked cool, so we put our names on the waitlist (it was a Saturday and therefore very busy) and walked over to another place for a drink. It's a pretty small restaurant with limited seating, so they make sure to really utilize the tables. The waitress pointed to the table for us and my husband thought she was kidding because there was very little space at the table that already had three guys on it. We got cozy with them, which was fine because actually, it's all about the ramen, ammiright?! First we ordered the vegetarian gyoza to share. They were totally delicious with a nice crispy outside and soft juicy delish inside. Then I had the vegetarian miso and my husband ordered the vegetarian tantanmen. By far the tantanmen was the winner! The broth was absolutely fantastic (and quite spicy) and full of flavor!!! Definitely getting that one next time! The miso was alright, but nothing special. Wow, after finding out two other ramen shops were closed for summer break, I was relieved to get seated during the dinner rush. Then the inevitable sticker shock hit me, 25 CHF for a bowl of ramen?! Welcome to Zürich. I wanted a hearty broth and the tonkatsu was sold out so I ordered the Vegetarian Tantanmen with an egg for extra 2 CHF. As I waited I noticed that every table was cleaning out their bowls. For a hot day, everyone sure enjoyed their steamy noodles and broth down to the last drop. As soon as I took a sip of mine I knew why. It was so rich and flavourful, you would never think it to be vegetarian. Creamy broth with a slight spice and the handmade noodles cooked to the perfect consistency. All of the toppings worked so well together. Tiny chunks of eggplant along with wakame, negi and green onion, sesame and the delicious egg. My tummy was happy! I have to admit that I could not finish the entire bowl. I was so full and sweating because of the summer heat. The flavour of the ramen itself was well balanced. Well worth the high price. read more

I absolutely love ramen but since I am deeply committed to the ramen at Ooki, I haven't really explored the different ramen options in Zurich. However when my friend and I were unsuccessful to get into Ooki without a reservation on a Saturday evening (as expected), we walked to Miki to try our luck there. We were greeted by the friendly staff who told us (in English) that they were at full capacity but that we would be able to get a table in 30 mins so we put our names down and had a cocktail down the street. Half an hour later we were indeed seated and got ourselves a Sapporo each, Beef Tantanmen and some Gyoza to start of with. We were served the meat Gyoza almost immediately but I found them just a-ok. I like my gyoza a bit crispier and the filling was just meh. When ordering the Tantanmen, I was already a bit suspicious that they did not inquire about the spice level... it is like ordering a steak and not getting asked how you want it. It just rubs me the wrong way, but since the staff was friendly and prompt I tried to ignore it. The ramen were ok for Zurich, I thought they were not spicy enough and also, strangely I found they were not warm enough. Mind you, typically I am the person who complains that my food is too warm to eat but I never realized that I am not a big fan of lukewarm ramen. Overall, I felt that the broth lacked depth but maybe I am spoiled with the many great Japanese places in Zurich? We had a mochi for dessert which was quite tasty but I doubt it was house made... also, I am not sure what to think of the fact that I liked the dessert best, especially since I am not a big dessert person. I've lived in Zurich for many years, so this review is compared to other places in Zurich - as it would be unfair to compare this offering to somewhere in Japan or what I see quite often is comparison to places in the US (where I grew up) especially on the pricing level. The owners of Miki ramen carefully researched on the ways to make fresh ramen from scratch and they have sure secured a good recipe. Their ramen is locally made in Zurich from scratch, and what I love is that unlike a local competitor that also makes their own ramen, Miki ramen uses kansui - which ramen fanatics know is what creates the bounce in the ramen. The ramen noodles pack a punch for sure. (I have personally seen the production of these noodles.) Furthermore, they also offer various types of ramen including "Tantanmen", which is a more adventurous ramen dish adapted from the Sichuan Dan Dan noodles - spicy, packed with flavor in a rich broth. I like their traditional ramen, but many times I opt for the adventurous tantanmen - besides Miki ramen, their sister shop IKOO (Stauffacher area) are the only ramen houses that carry tantanmen here in Zurich so far. For those on a diet who don't want a rich broth may want to skip this, but then I'm wondering if you are on a diet why come eat ramen... Life is too short, have a cheat day and come here for a ramen. For vegetarian fanatics, they offer vegetarian options including a fantastic veggie tantanmen. I love how they used eggplant/aubergine as a protein-like texture for the dish. I guess it's not vegan bc the noodles I think include eggs. I was so inspired by this dish I learned how to make a vegan bowl of ramen from scratch and replicated the "veggie tantanmen" including the eggplant and have to say it is delish! The service is not consistent, if they are not packed it's very good, but if it's packed - it can be a bit slow at times when they are overwhelmed with ramen lovers. Prob because this is the only place that has tantanmen, lol! Reservations are only possible for dinner. The pricing is decent for dining out in Zurich (which has a high cost of living), averaging 25-28 per bowl. It doesn't matter what time of the year it is, I always have a crave for this place. Most of the times I try to time it so that I'm here right after my gym session that is 15 minutes away from here. :-) En guete, as the locals will say! read more

Once you get past the sticker shock you can enjoy some excellent ramen. It's a tiny storefront so be prepared to wait if you go during lunchtime. They had already run out of tonkotsu by 1 pm so I ordered the spicy tantanmen (25 CHF). Broth was rich in flavor and the noodles were perfect. read more

Okay. So I went to Switzerland for a tiny vacation back in January. I first went to Paris, then Bern, then Tasch, then Zurich. I went to so many places in Switzerland and I have encountered so much food that wasn't meant for me. So I thought I'd try out this ramen. I waited in the freezing cold for an hour and a half. And mind you, I'm from the U.S. For a party of three and three bowls of noodles, we paid about $80 usd. I would usually pay about $30 for three people in Houston. I decided to write a review now because till this day, I still can't forget how bland this ramen was. It tasted like water mixed in with powder with no seasoning. All throughout my European trip, I've tasted salt slathered in all the foods I've came across. But this one is just completely bland. It wasn't worth my craving for ramen in Europe. And it wasn't worth the wait, nor worth the $80. The chashu was a joke! It's like a piece of rubbery fat that's been cooked and then reused the next day. The noodles weren't bouncy at all, they were mush. It just wasn't very good and I just hope people in Europe can develop a better Asian cuisine and culture than what they think is "good". Let's just say I got insight into their kitchen and it's really clean and the kitchen staff is very happy and seem to like what they do. I had the cold tofu starter which was new to me, and I'm not sure I would order it again. Not really my thing. The ramen were excellent and apparently now are home made. Will go back for sure!
