My family really enjoyed our visit at onyx cave. The 30 minute tour was just the right amount of time with our younger children(our older children enjoyed as well). They stayed interested the whole tour. Our tour guide Autumn was friendly, so sweet with the kids and informative. The rock shop was fun, lots of cool treasures. Staff was friendly.

Cute store. Cool tour. Staff were friendly, and wrapped everything I bought. Love the care they took. The rocks aren't completely over priced like everywhere else. Really happy to have randomly stopped here. 5 stars!

Came to visit from Indiana. Definitely love seeing new things and THIS IS A MUST!! Especially if you love exploring nature! It was very affordable for a tour and the staff was awesome! Our tour guide Autumn was super awesome and took her time to show us the amazing cave!

    Verity of gems and minerals

I have not visit Onyx Cave for the cave yet only their Rock Shop. Today was my first time in. They have a lot of great options of gems/mineral polished and in their natural form. The couple that were running the shop tonight were really friendly and nice. After viewing the pictures of the cave on here I will have to come back and check it out before I move out of town. I should be back for a tour in the next day or two. I found some beautiful stones I purchased. Btw here is a hint to find some cool fossils. If you search through their barrels of geodes you can find some Geodized Gastropod Fossils.

Beautiful structures and by far the best cave we saw! Fun for everyone and our tour guide was a blast.

Onyx Cave is one of my favorite caves in the Mammoth Cave area. I've been here several times and always leave happy. The beauty of this cave is amazing and it's not too hard of a trip for people of all ages. Missy is wonderful and her knowledge and patience always impress me. I look forward to visiting this cave again!! Plus now I have a super cute bat hat!!!

The tour was educational. My Friends and I were on a small group tour given by the owner. She was full of information on the hows and whens of the cavern. My friends and I did two different caves tours, and Onyx came was the most educational and equally as jaw-dropping as the Crystal Onyx cave. You will get your money's worth.

The gift shop is cute. It isn't large but they have a good selection. The promos are they have the longest underground suspended bridge. I am adraid of heights and was nervous most about this part of the tour. The girls were understanding and talked me through if I wasn't able to take on the bridge. This is a guided tour about a mile long. The entrance is so beautiful. It is like walking into a secret garden. The river is gorgeous and the water sounds so soothing. When we got to the bridge it wasn't as bad as my mind was making it out to be. It is high but the darkness of the cave made it harder to see how high up you are. The bridge felt really stable and didn't shake as much as I was expecting. This is a beautiful cave. The tour was fantastic. My pup loved the tour and had a blast cave exploring.

For the last couple years my wife and I have taken to doing cave tours. We've done several in the…read morearea and only made it to Hidden River Cave & American Cave Museum recently. Unlike some cave attractions, you have to make a reservation to visit Hidden River. It's easy via their website. Once you arrive you can check in at the desk and then tour the museum and gift shop before your cave tour begins. The museum is self-guided and is two stories' worth of exhibits. There's a staircase that takes you down to the lower level where you'll find just as many exhibits as their is on the main floor. Everything is presented nicely, well lit, and informative. Shortly before your tour begins your tour guide will introduce himself, give you a brief overview of the cave, and then do a Q&A before heading to the cave entrance. This cave tour begins by descending some steps. A Lot of steps. The opening is very impressive, and as you ascend you can feel the temperature drop. A brief pause at the bottom of the steps and our tour guide pointed out some of the machinery left over from various uses of the cave in the past. Then it's into the cave. I love cave tours because it puts you in a place that's nothing but history. They're made by nature, often hidden for centuries, and, for all intents and purposes, somewhere that man isn't really intended to go...but we're Mankind and we do that kind of thing. Once inside the cave there are areas that are expansive and areas that are terrifically narrow. I love large, open spaces underground. Sometimes you have to remind yourself that your anywhere from 50 to over 100 feet below surface. In a fashion, it's a bit humbling. At the same time, you have to remind yourself that you're actually below a downtown area. The suspended bridge was definitely a highlight of this cave tour. Cleverly designed and installed, I'd almost consider an underground wonder. A little further along you come to the Sunset Dome, and the farther point of your tour. The Sunset Dome is a beautiful space. I just had to stop and listen to the silence. Nothing but silence, running was from an underground steam, and the occasional drop of water from above (a cave kiss). If only the others on our tour would have been to appreciate it more. After the Sunset Dome you hit rewind and head back along the same path you just took on the way in. Back cross the suspended bridge. Then back to the bottom of the staircase....which you now need to walk up. And there are A LOT of stairs. It was tough, I'm not going to lie. I'm in pretty good shape and I had to stop twice on the way up. Once you're up to the top you have a chance to visit the gift shop again and purchase a souvenir or two. I don't recall our tour guide's name, but he was pretty good. He did spent a fair amount of time patting himself on the back, stating at least 4 times that how long he'd been doing these tours and how he considered himself an expert. Weird flex, but ok. It was still a good tour and I'm glad we were finally able to get to Hidden River Cave.

As if the 34-foot dinosaur an I-65 didn't get your attention, it's literally right off of the expressway. The Visitor's Center / Gift Shop is your point of entry. If you bought your ticket ahead of time (recommended) they'll scan it and give you a wrist band. you can also buy your ticket there. A visit to Dinosaur World won't break the bank. There are some add-ons (fossil dig and sifting through sand) that you can add on and that kids might dig. Once you get your wristband you're on your own to roam and explore. There are over 150 (as I recall) life-size dinosaurs on exhibit, all well-crafted and maintained. There's an informational plaque for every exhibit giving the name, pronunciation guide, location information, and a few other facts about each particular dinosaur. It doesn't go into great detail (and doesn't really need to, to be honest). I was surprised how small the Velociraptors were (they're based on actual skeletons)..then again, Jurassic Park set a rather fictionalized standard. In your travels you can go out to the large 34-foot dino that lives along I-65. The information said that that dinosaur is a fictional dinosaur and not based on an actual one. It may seem like it's quite a hike to the that one, but it's really not. In the center of the park is an amazing exhibit that showcases several types of dinosaurs in what may have been an open area, milling about and doing dinosaur things. It took us about an hour to visit all the dinosaurs. The park is kept amazingly clean and during that hour we saw 3 different park personnel keeping it that way. There's an informational dinosaur museum that's got a number of fossils and replicas. Again, the information designed to make you a paleontologist but to give you an overview and a little knowledge. At the end is an animated T-Rex that is 100% AWESOME. The wife and I decided we'd have to visit again when our grandkids get a little older. I love this place.

This is more for children as they have a kids play area, a little putt putt course, fossil dig, and some other kids friendly activities. The dinsosaurs don't move but they are pretty cool anyway. Each dinosaur has a plaque that tells you about them in English and Spanish. I may not have had any kids with me but my pup and I had an enjoyable time wandering around and looking at all the statues. There is a nice gift with lots of dinosaur and rock related gifts (among others).

And the only reason we rented a vehicle for that time is because hubby wanted to visit Buc-ees down the road. Seeing that Kentucky Down Under was down the road- we wanted to take advantage of our day in Kentucky. Park behind Farmwald's Bakery and you see the parking lot. We arrived before opening time- so, we hung out and watched the camel roaming about. I've had the opportunity to ride a camel in Mexico and we have a camel dairy on the outskirts of San Diego (where they sell soaps and lotions). There was only one camel and it was huge and curious! As it got closer to opening time- the parking lot started to get packed w/ kids on their field trip. You can see the golf carts lined up behind the gift shop. Restrooms are located down the hall from the cashiers counter. And from previous reviews, I wasn't sure if the steep hill leading up to the enclosures was paved, dirt or gravel. And with my Achilles tendinitis, I didn't wanna figure it out. Lol. It was easy to snag a golf carts- worth every dime. And cruise up the hill. The road leading up is paved. And once you reach the top- there are tons of porta potties and lunch tables to the right. The map provided will lead you to the direction of your interest. We beat the group of kids and were able to see the Grey wolves and dingoes- before all the mayhem of excitement from the kids ensued. The bird garden was great. And you get to see a peacock roaming freely. I read a review to get there as early as possible- that way the kangaroos are somewhat active. I never thought in my life I'd have the opportunity to feed many kangaroos! There were so many! The Petting Zoo was fun. Seeing the baby goats softly butt heads with another... and then the bigger ones. As the morning continued on- more groups of kids on their field trips came. Keep in mind- when you pay to feed a certain animal- only feed them their food. And please- don't just toss your empty paper cups on the enclosure grounds. There are trash cans located outside to dispose of them. We didn't see any capybaras and no albino kangaroo. Wish we had more time to hang around and see some of the demonstrations and go down Onyx Cave. Definitely wear some comfortable walking shoes because if you step off the paved path in the kangaroo enclosure- tons of poo piles and uneven surfaces.
