Excellent modern food! Everything we had was outstanding. This is the place to come for your vegetables; they do a great job with them, nothing over cooked, and have super variety. Also, we got lucky walking in at 6:00 without a reservation, and had to be done by 7:30. So, get a booking in advance if possible. Highly recommended.

We tried: - Mackerel pate: Oh my goodness I loved this! I could eat a bucketful! - Scallops (one came with bacon jam, the other with mac n cheese and truffles...) These *were* good, but I think I have been spoilt by the truly stunning scallops in Japan...so they didn't quite compare. - I had the hake, served with potatoes and beans. It was light, perfectly seasoned and delicious. - My husband had the sea trout with some sort of ponzu sauce. I tried a bite of this and it was also lovely. - I also tried the frozen apple desert, which was a bit of a work of art! I liked it, but had food envy for the white chocolate mousse. My friend (who booked a table for us) told me that the owners also run the Porthminster Beach Cafe, which is more famous, so harder to get a table. It was pretty busy when we visited, so it is probably worth booking a table in advance, even if this is their less-well-known resturant.

A top spot to eat on St Mary's, for lunch or dinner. The location - right on Porthcressa beach,…read morelooking over to St Agnes - is to die for. They serve a wide range of tapas and mezze style dishes, inspired by Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine. Lots of choice for vegetarians and vegans, but plenty for fish and meat eaters, too. (They have daily specials of locally-caught fish). Much of the menu is gluten-free. The lunch menu includes pittas, salads and panini as well. Local sourcing means many of the ingredients are from Cornwall. They also clearly pride themselves on the provenance of their coffee (though we didn't sample it.) Service was extremely friendly and efficient, though prices reflect the quality and location: three tapas each, plus pudding and wine and a tip, came to £30 a head.

Also a brunch menu of eggs benedict/florentine etc. Salads include lamb souvlaki in pitta bread;seared beef carpaccio; Cornish blue cheese, pear & walnut. So, above average stuff. I had a wonderfully tasty field mushroom bruschetta with garlic and parmesan (£6.50). Washed down with Cornish cider in the sunshine, watching the yachts sway on a turquoise sea, this place is a treat.
