We stopped at this lake after a long day of driving and sightseeing. The lake is beautiful and peaceful. There is a large parking lot and the place wasn't crowded on a Sunday evening. There looks like activities for all ages including your fur babies. We took some pictures and walked around and just admired the scenery. This is definitely a place to check out and enjoy mother nature. read more

Awesome!! I'll lead with that!! Technically, this lake is In Liverpool, NY which is right next to Syracuse. I came here a few times as I was staying not to far away, to get in my daily runs while in town. Huge parking lot, nice big paved paths and roads for everyone. And they keep this park super clean and well maintained. Shout out to the workers here, they do a tremendous job!! Everyone I encountered during my runs were friendly. I'm not sure if you can run around the whole lake, which is huge by the way. I was always pressed for time when I was here, so I didn't go as far as I would have liked. They also have the Salt museum, a playground, and a trolley here. I wish I was able to spend more time here, definitely a great park!! read more

There are some great trails here to get a good walk in, especially with your dog. Mostly all the trails are paved and you can ride a bike, push a stroller, or even a wheelchair. There is a playground for the children and recently added pickle ball courts. There is a visitor center and salt museum as well. My biggest gripe is all the trash around the park. There are trash cans but people litter and leave their dog doo on the trails. Other than that there are beautiful views into the City of Syracuse. read more

As a local, this is my favorite park in the area. This park offers so much in terms of a playground, walking and biking trails, rentals, views of the lake, picnic tables and pavilions, you name it. It's also within the Village of Liverpool where you can easily walk to local shops and restaurants nearby along with the Liverpool library. read more

Cycling, walking, running, skateboarding, roller blading, boating- you can do it all at the OLP. The rental station here is awesome- the bike trollies are very popular. My mom and I rode in one and had a GREAT time! And every time I go to the park I see families in them. For me as a cyclist I love the paths. There is a walking path and a wheels/runner path. The wheels and runner path goes a good three miles, and it's about 5 side by side bikes wide. I love having such a long, car free, stretch to lean down and get some speed on. At the end of this stretch you can go along the river to an old canal and the dog park, or go over the single lane bridge to the southside of the lake. The south side of the lake winds beautifully through the trees and eventually takes you to St Joseph's Amphitheater, and then the State Fair Grounds parking lots. The southside of the lake is just one path, so it can become tight- call out when passing! It's usually better to check your pace since there are a lot of blind corners. The south side the best side to see the rehabilitation of the lake in progress. When a concert is going the amphitheatre is closed and typically cuts off about 4 miles (round trip) of riding/walking. There are a handful of bench and shaded shelters along the way. Just be aware though, that when a concert is going usually it's closed from the amphitheater onward. read more

I have never been here during the day but driven through it multiple times for the Lights on the Lake event. Looks like they have a nice playground for kids near the parking lot which is a bonus. Lights on the Lake happens every holiday season. It's a drive through holiday light experience with hinders of holiday lights. You prepurchase your tickets online. They do this to guarantee all cars get through the park by 10 PM. You tune your car radio into holiday music & you get to drive thru slowly. My kids love it & we usually stop & do dinner first at a local spot which makes a great evening. read more

Lovely park offering some great views of the lake. Large parking lot with tons of spaces. There may be an entrance fee during the peak season ($8 or so) but there was no fee when I visited there in late September. I noticed some people fishing there, but I am not sure of the permit requirements. There is a large ane well-kept children play area there as well. The park also features a skate park, shuffleboard court, bocce ball court and volleyball court. If you walk further north along the lakeside, there is a marina there. Lots of trails and paths for walking, jogging, running or biking. You can also rent bikes, skates and quad-bikes there as well. I would love to return when the leaves change colors later on in the fall... read more

This was a nice park. Plenty of places to park (including a free electric car charging station at the park management building!). There's a scenic bike path along the water, and a salt museum (free). But there's not a lot of bathrooms though - the closest restrooms were at the yacht club. Great place to picnic or just walk. The butterfly garden was also really nice, but it would be better if the bike path connected to that as well. read more

I've been here so many times. This is a great place to walk, roller blade, bike or just relax. There are also lots of races and group runs that happen here, too. There is a separate walk way (biker free). And there is a team that'll take you down the parkway, as well. This is a great place to visit year round! read more

I think the park is great, there are two different play gyms for both small and larger kids. There are tons of swing sets which is a huge plus because my kids love to swing and we always end up guiltily hogging swings wherever we go, or leaving in a fit because we need to share. Problem solved! I love that there is plenty of space to walk, run, bike, skate along the parkway, at your own pace while looking at the beautiful views. My only wish is that there was a gate around the park, or something separating the park from the parking lot, as I have little escape artists and this would help. This park is amazing! It has a lot to offer from a huge playground to rentals of bicycles and bike cars to walking trails and scenic views of Onondaga Lake. There's pickle ball courts, tennis courts, skateboard park, and plenty of green open land to picnic on. Next door is Paige's butterfly garden, part of the park which has amazing garden and benches and scenery. Amazing place! read more

Yoko Ono Ndaga Lake Park was a favourite haunt of John Lennon. McCartney reportedly didn't like it here because it wasn't bland enough for him. Definitely one of the prettiest places I've seen in the Syracuse area. Unlike Green Lakes State Park you don't have a pay a fortune to see it, either. This is a stunning park next to a picturesque lake that is one of the most spectacular places in the region to hang out. Just don't tell anyone that the lake is one of the most polluted in the country. Nobody needs to know that. And ignore the factories around the shore. Or better yet just give them the finger. The finger lakes, that is. Speaking of fingering lakes. read more

This is a great park in Syracuse with a wonderful walking path to enjoy the large lake. I've been here a few times in my life and I've always enjoyed the tranquility and views. This is a good place for a walk and they've got loads of baseball fields and other amenities to enjoy. They have docks and boating here and this would be a great place to enjoy a kayak or paddleboard ride as well. There are signs along the path that teach you about the history of the lake and nearby area and show you your location on the park as well. They have a dog park here as well to let your dogs get some much needed exercise! read more

Onondaga Lake Park; gorgeous views, running trails -- a Salt Museum and a tram that runs here, also home to the Lights on the Lake during the holiday season. Lights on the Lake deserves to be in another review (hint: it would be two stars), so I won't talk about it here, but as a park -- this place is great. With the mountainous looking terrain in the back, you can almost imagine you're in San Francisco (okay...almost, maybe I'm stretching it). There's a shoreline trail where you can run and walk your dog with mile markers up to 3miles. Great place to go running along the water. Running parallel to it, there's another trail where you can bike and roller blade (but dogs are forbidden). Although it's beautiful to come here for a romantic walk or picnic or to meditate by yourself, it's a bit bittersweet if you know the history of this place. It used to be one of the most popular tourist destinations in the US, but as Onondaga Lake is like the second most polluted lake in the US -- you can no longer safely swim here and a lot of that tourism vanished. It's too bad, they've made a lot of effort to clean up the lake, but it still has a long way to go. Extra star will be awarded for when the lake is safely swimmable again. Hopefully in my lifetime. read more

Great free park where you can walk, run, rollerblade, bike, or walk your dog. They recently renovated the parking lot near the salt museum so it is cleaned up but unfortunately the design of the placement of the curbs and not widening the roads have lead to many a park goer hitting the curbs. So beware that the width of the roads along the curves are tight!!!!!! Overall this is a great well maintained park that extends to the other side. There is a great play ground, baseball field, and skate boarding area. There are also picnic area for people who want to barbecue. They even have bike rentals! With plenty of parking it's a great place to get your work out on or just enjoy nature with no fears of cars whizzing by. If you come in the evening you will witness some great sunsets. Only issue is sometimes when the wind blows once in a while you can get a whiff of the lake. read more

This seems to be a local family park and was a great intro to our first visit to Syracuse. A big open parking lot greets you first, along with the sight of families with children and a glimpse of colourful children's playground. We actually came here specifically to ride the 2-pedal Surrey quadricycle that we'd only seen in pictures and movies, so after parking we headed straight to the visitor center. The staff there was minimally helpful, but we got done what we needed to do: rent the bicycle and pedal away! What we hadn't anticipated was how much work would be required to keep this bike moving, and we realised that with 5 minutes of starting to pedal. The paved path was nice and wide, and there was just enough crowds around to keep us entertained. There were backyards of people's houses right up along the path which was interesting, and it took us about 25 minutes to reach the other side of the path before turning around and pedaling back. I wish the bicycle was more ergonomic and built so that pedaling on the pavement wouldn't feel like hard labour or Soulcycle, but at least we can say we did it. All in all the park is worth a visit. read more

Even with a lot of people out it didn't have a crowed feeling due to the two side by side trails that are plenty wide. - Worse thing I encountered was the geese poop which you'll find anytime you run in parks by water. There was a great blend of sun and shade along the area I ran. read more

Beautiful park! I came here on Christmas night for Lights Along The Lake, and it was so cool!!! Definitely worth the cost to visit. You get to drive through, radio set to a specific Christmas music playing station, and admire all of the displays. You can see some of the houses along the way too, and they were beautiful. I'd like to return in the day time to see more of the park, but Lights on the Lake was really cool. Glad I got to see it!! read more

Great park in Syracuse. I went for a run here, and enjoyed the park immensely. It wraps around a lake, with two trails. One seemed to be for people walking, and the road (which didn't have vehicle traffic) for runners, bikers, and roller blades. The park has at least one bathroom/drinking fountain area, which is great if you forget your water. There are playgrounds, as well as sports parks here as well. I didn't really investigate those, but they seemed pretty popular. I enjoyed my run here. Very peaceful with great views on the lake, and downtown Syracuse. Quite a few people were out enjoying the great weather and pleasant park. read more

Not a bad little park on the lake. 2 baseball diamonds, a skate park (pretty nice one) and a playground for the kids. I sense some shenanigans go on here when the sun is gone. It's across across the street from Heid's which means hot dog or ice cream and chilling at the park! It's slightly cooler (temperature wise) here than other parts of town . If you come here at any point other than the summer then remember to bring a sweater or jacket!!! read more

Onondaga Lake Park has a special meaning to me. I spent my high school and college summers working as a grounds keeper at Griffin Field. Griffin Field was a multi-use (Football, Soccer, Baseball and Softball) sports facility that has since been torn down and replaced by a Skateboard park (I think). Onondaga Lake Park is a long narrow park that runs along the shores of Onondaga Lake (considered to be the most polluted lake in the US). In spite of the pollution the county has worked hard since the mid 1970s to create a great park. There is a road that runs the length of the park but it was closed to public traffic a long time ago. This makes it ideal for running and biking. There are several picnic areas. The residents of the towns near the lake usually make good use of the park. During the holiday season a light display is created and the road is open to cars paying a fee. The lake is not nearly as bad as it was when I was young. In fact it has been making a steady comeback. It might never be what it was before the City of Syracuse built and the smoke stack industries that showed up along the shores but that is something we are all going to have to live with. If you are traveling to the northern suburbs of Syracuse and want to take a run or walk then Onondaga Lake Park might be just the place to go. Check it out. read more

This lake's great. There is free parking, climbable trees, biking trails, grassy areas for picnic, playground for the kids, bike and surrey rentals. The area feels peaceful and calm. There are residential areas that line the bike trail that give the trail a homey vibe. There is a separate trail for walkers/roller bladers vs. bikers so it's safe for everyone. I do not recall if there is fishing or swimming at this lake. There is also a Salt Museum here. read more

The Onondaga Lake Park is the Central Park of Central New York. There's so much to do, and on a beautiful day, it feels like half the city is out there doing it! With the recent expansion of the West Shore Trail, the lake park now offers 7.5 miles of scenic lakeside pathways (and they're paved, too). Over the years, I've used the park's trails for all kinds of activities: walking, running, biking, skateboarding, and rollerblading (back when it was super-cool 8-) ). They're wide, and well maintained. From almost any point along the lakeshore, you can catch a great view of the city skyline to the south (especially from the hills on the West Shore). There's so much more to this park than just the trail system: playgrounds, baseball fields, volleyball courts, pavilions, and shuffle boards (my personal favorite). At the south end there's a skate park, and at the north, one for dogs. In the summer, you can rent a variety of bikes (bicycles, tandems, quadscycles, and yes, septacycles), as well as kayaks. For kiters, there are a few large fields near the head of the East Shore trail that pick up some steady winds off the lake. In the winter, the park keeps the path cleared for the hearty. Too, you'll find cross country skiers carving their own lakeside trails. And the Onondaga County Parks system is the best: they take great care of all of the above. Needless to say, there's bound to be something you can do at the Onondaga Lake Park! read more

I can honestly tell you that part of the reason I didn't move away from Snowacuse a long time ago, is this park. It is really one of the best parks that I have ever seen outside of NYC. I usually come here once a week at least during the summer and hit the biking path. If your new to the area, then you need to check this out! There are two paths that go all the way down the lake front. One is for people who like to walk and take their time. The other path is for people who like to roller blade, bike, and run. This is kept separate so that everyone can come here, do what they want to do, and have a good time. There is so much more to this park though. You can rent bikes, you can visit the Salt Museum, you can check out the marina, or you can just sit on the benches and enjoy the beautiful lake. It especially nice during a breezy summer night with a gorgeous sunset in the distant. This is also a great place for the Pokemon Go players, as there are tons of Poke Stops all down the path. Don't let winter depress you though. There is still one last thing the park provides during the cold months here in the Cuse. We have our annual Lights on the Lake! You pay a small fee at the front of the park and are able to slowly drive your car though the paved area of the park surrounded by tons and tons of Christmas lights and decor! It is not to be missed! read more

I have a few things to say about Onondaga Lake Park, first thing is that this is the best way to spend a warm summer day with your children. We love going to what they call the "crayon park" because the front of the Wegman's children's playground has huge crayons in the front. The playground is definitely parent friendly, no matter where my children go in the park I am able to see them there is nothing obstructing my view. I love the fact that the playground is "padded" with rubber instead of mulch making falls so much easier on the little ones. We also love feeding the ducks so every time we come to the park we also scrounge around for left over bread and snacks to feed the ducks and we spend what seems like hours feeding them by the water. The benches near the water definitely make it easy for us to enjoy the lake. The next best thing about the park is the trolley, sometimes when the kids and I get kind of tired we hop on the trolley and ride it around the park from one end to the other and back and I tell the children about when I was a kid where we had family picnics and the restaurant that was open by Long Branch. It's so much fun to reminisce especially at Onondaga Lake park because I have so many wonderful memories there. I remember the day before I left for basic training in 2000, I went to Onondaga Lake Park to test my running times and to brush up a little on my exercising. It was a beautiful day so after my running I strapped on my Rollerblades and just skated for hours. The Salt museum is also a lost gem at the lake. It has so much history in it and it's fun to see and learn about the olden days at the park and surrounding areas. You know I have been going to that park since the 80's (when I was born) and had never gone into the Salt Museum until a couple of years ago, I couldn't wait to bring my children there once I saw the wonder inside and they LOVED it as much as I did. The one downfall as everyone is well aware the lake is polluted so no sunny days swimming in the water and no fishing out on the pier like when I was a kid, but it's still a great place for family!! read more

A group of us went here one evening after enjoying some franks at Heid's across the street. We walked along the shore trail and down the dock. It was really beautiful and we all really enjoyed the scenery. After walking down and around the shore, we headed up to the area that rents different bikes and rented a 4-person bike, which we called a quadcycle. We had a blast riding along the shore in this thing. We passed by the park and waved at some kids, got chased by said kids, and laughed the entire time. I think it has a lot to do with our experience here, but I love this place. read more

I go here all the time for various things. Biking, nearby food, corporate challenge, more biking. The parkway is awesome and probably the best place to bring your bike or your dog in the entire syracuse area. The new west lake path is coming along very nicely and adds so much to your visit if you're biking a good distance (watch the bumps though, they can be pretty rough right now). Can't wait until they connect more pathways to allow and easy lake loop on two wheels, that will be so much fun, and convenient. You could easily park in the village of Liverpool and ride your bike into downtown Syracuse without issues. I also can't wait to see the amphitheater when it's complete too, sounds awesome and the plans look great, I'll definitely be attending some shows when it's done! Next step would be adding some food/beverage stops back into the paths like there used to be down by the bridges. Sell me some snacks, I'll definitely buy! Maybe someone will put this on a to-do list at the park offices. Would be great to have even just a hot dog vendor standing behind a cart somewhere. Oh, and if anyone is into Geocaching there are a handful of good ones at the parkway. If you don't know what that is look it up, might just be your next hobby! read more

can't say i ever agreed with tearing down griffin field, but they've done a nice job of replacing it with a skate park and a couple of playground areas for kids. the current baseball fields and bike paths are in very good condition and i've never had a problem with parking or with crowds here. the park is absolutely beautiful on a sunny morning (despite onondaga lake being one of the more polluted lakes in the country). my only real complaint is that i wish they would extend the park boundaries south to onondaga creek and into the inner harbor area of syracuse, perhaps by bike paths or walking trails, to connect the city to the park a bit more. read more

We were here last year and enjoyed it but this year it was a downer as they tram has apparently been "down" for and extended period of time... I used to visit this park every weekend when I was in the area. There are two paths running parallel to the lake, one for walkers and another for bicyclists. During the summer, there seems to be a large population of geese and ducks occupying the park. They seem to be used to humans so one can be sitting on a bench viewing the lake and be surrounded by the birds. Of course, with so many birds, one has to be careful of the droppings. read more
