The last review was made years ago and there are no photos so it's time for an update. There are a great many things that take place here and I'll list off the amenities. You will find a gym, concert venue, another large room, 2 smaller rooms, a business center, a book and puzzle exchange, game room, coffee bar, full kitchen, and about four dozen parking spaces out front. Some of the attractions here are scheduled concerts, line dancing and yoga along with various classes. There are no pickle ball or basketball courts here. I feel like a I get a workout, the people are are fun and attention is paid to my shoulder replacement and balance issues. I do not participate in the other activities at the center but have friends who have gone on the trips that the center provides and love it. It is a wonder there aren't more people attending classes here and doing activities at this center, many of the classes are free or very affordable, it's definitely be a hidden gem!

This recreational center just recently reopened in 2022 after an extensive remodel. This center is…read moresandwiched between Overton elementary school and Colony Park (see separate review of the park). The center boasts of some very nice amenities such as a workout room, teen room, spacious kitchen, arts and crafts room, and a multipurpose room. This center is open to the general public without fees although you may need to sign a waiver if you use the facilities. On Fridays, they have bingo for seniors, and even a free breakfast. The bathrooms are very clean and modern. They have an indoor basketball court facility, which is very well designed. The elementary school next-door makes good use of this basketball gymnasium area. They even have a covered outdoor basketball court behind the building. They also have an afterschool program for three surrounding schools which involves a hot meal. There is another building next-door, which is another gymnasium with a small kitchen. Behind the smaller building is a wonderfully designed and extensive playground with covered picnic tables, baseball field, and soccer field. It should be pointed out that unlike some other recreational centers, there are no homeless camps within its boundaries. The "little red house" campus on Woodrow is closing this year, but the other location (MLK) has been open for a while now. An (one of the founders), Meg (head teacher), and so many other amazing teachers there. We couldn't be more pleased with our experience at YPS, and we are sad to be leaving for 'big kid ' school this fall.

If you want to try it out, there are also great intro offers. They offer a variety of classes from jump board Pilates to classical Pilates to rebound classes, which are so FUN! My favorite part of this studio is the sauna room. The room is very private with a personal tv, adding an extra layer of relaxation. The diving board is stiff, but the lifeguards are great and the neighborhood families are friendly. There's a large park and playscape next door, on the East side of the pool. The Lifeguards are friendly and knowledgeable, there is not a lot of horse-play among them, like at some pools. The pool is pretty quiet and never too crowded. They also do a good job keeping non fitness swimmers out of the lap lane, when it's in use. It's a bit pricey if you live out of district that is the only negative.

Not to mention all of their staff are all extremely friendly and can direct you on where to go and who to contact. I love CATA and they have helped me out tremendously. I suggest that if you're into tennis and want to meet some new people, give them a shout and they can help you out!

Tennis was something I hadn't done in 10 years, but wanted to give it a shot again. CATA was able to help me find a facility that met my needs (low cost, close). The even assured me I wouldn't be the only overweight person there, and that many people are getting into Tennis for fitness. I've since had a private lesson at Caswell Tennis Center (very centrally located) and start group lessons next week!

Today was the first day of equestrian camp at this location for my son. When we arrived at the…read morecamp, we were greeted by a student who was working on learning how to care for and train new riders. After a brief introduction, my son then went right into his lesson. When I arrived to pick my son up at the end of camp today, he was filling a horse trough and helping with the grooming of Skittles; the newest horse at the stable. This camp/ stable provides lessons without the "fluff". Sydney (the owner) is very direct, open and honest about what it takes to learn to ride and care for a horse. Within the first day, my son learned how to care for a horse as well as was able to trot on a horse without an equestrian saddle. *COVID protocols are followed during the pandemic

I love Idylwood Stables! Sydney is a wonderful human being and has so much passion for horses and…read moretraining. She truly cares about her students and boarders. The number one priority at Idylwood is the happiness and health of the horses. They are treated like royalty! Her training style is very positive and encouraging. She will continue to challenge you, ultimately making you a more confident rider. I have tried almost every barn in the Austin area but none of them have that "barn family" feel like Idylwood! Feels like home.
