I'm giving this new location two stars because I bank with One United. The have been open less than 1 month and there is clearly a sign that says "ATM Available" unfortunately you can't access it. What kind of sense does that make? I know it's a new black owned bank which is why I decided to give them an opportunity but it's so old fashioned I can't take it! Five stars for caring about their customers. I opened an account with OneUnited earlier this year. So far, I've experienced zero problems with deposits, or interbank transfers. I opened a second account and made an error requiring me to reach out to support. I also added an outside bank to process transfers and part of that process required me talking to customer support to verify my identity. During these calls, I had excellent service. Each person was friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure they addressed my concerns with minimal input from me. Each person thanked me at the end of the call. I deposited a payroll check on Tuesday and it has taken all week to get access to that money. I received like 25% after 2 days. Now I'm waiting to get rest of it. Also I changed my direct deposit to One United thinking it would work like most banks. However they have received the deposit yet are holding the funds for an extra business before it's available to me. I opened this account because it was suggested as a way to build credit & they give you a second chance. Any other bank would give me access to my money as soon as it's available. We transferred all of our money and officially closed our account 02/12/21. Simply wasn't worth the hassle. Just so you all know those responses received from the owner are automated and unless you are persistent, they won't call you for a resolution as they advise. Side note: Be sure to make your balance zero or they won't close it (tip from previous reviewer). Time spent closing the account was less than 20 minutes. Best time spent ever!!! read more

Wont release check for 9 business days. I need the funds to get christmas presents, gas, groceries. But now im stuck waiting until the 18th for a check i tried to cash on the 4th but was barely outside business hours so they accepted on the 5th. They wouldnt cancel my deposit. Edited in response to reply. Someone tried calling while i was at work. You guys are usually open during the hours im at work. I tried letting multiple employees know i am going through a hardship right now and even though the agreement says you guys reserve the right to approve it to be released, i was told they couldnt do anything. You want to make things right how? Unless my check is released sooner than the 18th, that wont happen..i guess pray for me that ill have th gas to get to work since i live paycheck to paycheck and cant get paid until my next check. Im going 1 month between checks. Im being sarcastic on the praying part. That wont do much good. Please be aware that if you open an online account, they will treat you like a second class customer. I wasn't aware that online customers have limits that branch customers don't have such as you can only withdraw up to $3,000 and they won't allow you to cash a check at the branch, only deposit it into your account & if you deposit it, it'll take 5-7 business days to post even if it's a government check. Also they don't accept passports as proof of ID, only State ID's, I'll never understand why they don't accept a federal identification that trumps a regular state ID. Also if you lock your card, they will still allow transactions & then charge you a $35 overdraft fee for every single charge even though it's their fault. I'll be paying what I owe and closing my account as soon as possible! I wanted to support a black owned bank but I can't with all these restrictions and miscommunications. Do NOT get a credit card from this bank. You can only pay once per month, maximum payment allowed is $600, they don't report to the credit bureaus (what's the point then, not much help with building credit), they took off the Speedway online payment link which required me to pay by phone, and now isn't refunding my deposit after I closed the account. It's over 30 days. Recommend everyone file a complaint the BBB and FDIC so at some point this bank will be held accountable. read more

I have a green dot card through Walmart and August 11 my card was fraudulently charged $217 by T-Mobile. I did a dispute that day and found out a week and a half later that the employee who made the dispute did something wrong and it didn't go through so I had to do another dispute which took 45 minutes. Buy my own investigation as this was my car payment money T-Mobile refunded the money back on August 29 and as of today September 19 green dot is saying that they still don't have the money back. They were supposed to issue me a replacement card which I haven't received and I also have proof that T-Mobile returned the money on August 29 .As of today September 19 I have not received any of my money this is the worst experience and it's caused me a lot of trouble with bills and other situation I am highly highly disappointed in this company and would not recommend them to anyone read more

I recently opened an account with a bank that emphasizes closing the racial gap and caters to the African American community. Initially, I was drawn in by the promise of 2-day early pay after the first two direct deposits. However, this feature suddenly stopped working, and when I reached out to customer service, they were unable to provide immediate assistance. Unlike larger banks such as Navy Federal or Chase, they had to create a case to address the issue. During my Christmas travels, I encountered another problem - my card declined for almost every purchase, despite having sufficient funds. This was a frustrating experience. The final straw was when I had to dispute a Christmas purchase. The bank's dispute process proved to be incredibly lengthy, taking 10 days to even initiate a credit. Zero stars! One United Bank is the worst bank ever! At least the online bank is. It is so unfortunate because I truly wanted to support the bank. I opened an account during COVID and have been struggling with customer service ever since. None of the departments at the bank are interfaced. The right hand has no clue as to what the left hand is doing!! For the most part customer service is out sourced and have absolutely no connection to the bank. I lost my credit card in Dec. 2024 and had not been able to pay my bill because I do not know my credit card number. It is almost impossible to speak to someone without the credit card number. Options are limited and I am always forced to the fraud and loss department who in turn cannot assist me because I already reported the card lost. I was able to pay my bill by check after contacting the Better Business Bureau. I was told I cannot mail a check without my credit card number. After the BB report, I received a bill via email. Now I cannot get anyone to send me a new bill. Additionally, $1,500 appeared on my $250 limit credit card. I started receiving calls from collections. No one could explain to me how a $1,500 charge could be on a $250 limit credit card. Again, I had to turn to the Better Business Bureau for resolve. These issues are not new and I don't see the bank leadership making an effort to correct things. I will add that the customer services reps are kind even though the ability to assist is extremely limited.Z read more

Deposited the $100 required for the "go black" account. Got a beautiful card in the mail and felt proud to be apart of something amazing. Called today to request a card so that I can use this account for my daughter to save and they closed the account. All of my money was stolen out of my bank account and my daughters' account by someone hacking into my online account and transfering all of our money into another unknown account with in OneUnited. Same day someone hacked into my account and tried to zelle themselves $550. Despite me complaining for the past 3 days; the bank has not recognized my complaint or recorded it and has not acknowledged my 'Written Statement of Unauthorized Debit" to be credited the proper amount. Even though the money was transferred to one of their own accounts, the bank is not taking serious the fact that my money was taken and they have direct access where it went. Second Update: As of 3/6, I still haven't received any type of notification for my card delivery. I didn't even get the customary response that most of the other reviewers have gotten. I wish I could give 0 stars. This is the most disappointing experience I have ever had with any black business. Because of this, I will never bank with another black bank. Update: I received an unenthusiactic call from the bank yesterday evening at 6:18pm EST saying they would be expediting my card and waiving the fee and I would be getting an email from UPS when my card is shipped...well it's 1:40pm EST and I haven't received any notifications as of yet. They also told me it would take 3-5 days and when I said that's not good enough, I was told 3 days. Who knows what it will actually be. Just a total and complete lack of urgency, so my rating stands as is. I really couldn't be more disappointed. Do better. I have sent a message to President/COO Teri Williams on LinkedIn, filed a complaint with the BBB, and tweeted at them and all of that just to get my debit card. The reps are nice enough, but they do nothing but look up information. I reported my card lost on 2/8 and still have not received my card! The rude supervisor I spoke to today could have fixed this situation by expediting my card and waiving the $50 fee, but chose not to. I am disgusted with the service I have received thus far and will make sure to tell everyone I know to stay far, far away from this bank. Steps I took for a solution I opened a case with the Better Business Bureau I reached out to Teri Williams (President & COO at OneUnited Bank) on Linkedin and sent her a message of my issues. After I took the above actions I was called, and emailed 3 times. My monies are now out of OneUnited Bank and my next step is to close this chapter of a nightmare customer service. I've seen updated reviews on here stating how they find it good that someone from upper management or the COO reached out to them after they left a review. This is not to be praised as something good, this is a terrible business practice, the better approach would be for the first contact customer service reps to do their jobs by helping customers in the first place. Issues like this should never reach to the COO / President level of a company. This means they are unable to focus on the day to day future growth of the company. My 1 star review still stands, I would NEVER recommend this bank to anyone I know, they've been around since 1968 and their lack of growth and improvement is evident in their customer disservice. read more

Very friendly and eager to serve, but don't deposit any checks. I deposited a $50 cashier check and they put an 8 day hold on it which they didn't disclose until after I called them 2 days later. They said it was standard practice for any customer check deposit up to 3k and longer for larger amounts. If I had known, I would have used another bank. But like I said they are very friendly and do try to help but their policies are not forthcoming so probably won't be my goto or account of primary use. I've been using OneUnited for several months now, and once the excitement and pride you feel about using a Black owned bank goes away, you realize that this is not a convenient way to bank. I was willing to overlook the lack of physical locations because I rarely need to go into the bank, but there's a certain convenience factor when you can go to your bank's ATM and handle transactions like BofA, Wells & Chase allows you to. The app is probably 10 years out of date as far as functionality, which is disappointing considering how both OneUnited and the tech capital of the free world are in the same state. I understand the decision to contract customer service support to a third party company, but the fact that customer service is only available Monday through Friday, as if serious banking issues don't occur on the weekend is just a terrible business model. You better hope that whatever you need to get done happens before closing time Friday or you'll be waiting 48 hours - which is an eternity when you're having trouble with your funds. I've also noticed that there's no consistency with mobile check deposit. The first few times I did it, there wasn't an issue, but this time I was hit with a 3 day hold on the same amount, from the same company that I had deposited three times before. Mind you this 3 day hold was after I deposited my check on Friday, waited the weekend, the check was pending Monday and Tuesday there's another 3 day wait for it to clear. OneUnited isn't better than the big 3 in banking, and I'm willing to bet it isn't better than your local credit union. This is bank account you have on the side, this should not be your primary account. They just don't have the infrastructure for it. You're better off taking your money elsewhere until they can provide the same consistent service and accessibility as other banks. read more

In a city as big as Los Angeles, first red flag it's only one branch. 2nd red flag, since it's only one bank, it's only one atm. 3rd red flag, you use to be able to use US bank atm free of fee, until they lost that connection. 4th red flag, they have one of the worst phone customer service systems ever. One United Bank is the WORST bank I've ever used. Trying to contact of someone on the phone is a JOKE. I've NEVER had a phone call where I didn't have to wait on hold for at LEAST 20 mins. That's no exaggeration! Then when you FINALLY get to talk to a representative, they're all braindead. It's like they've had ZERO training. They practice call avoidance. Multiple people pick up the phone and immediately put you on hold or transfer you along for no reason. Again, I'm not exaggerating when I say my 14yr old daughter could walk in one of their call centers and IMMEDIATELY be a supervisor. Their "card services" department couldn't figure out how to get a debit card to a major American city for an entire month. AN ENTIRE MONTH!!
