I don't use checks and have never had a problem with return check fees until now... bear with me... My cable company submitted their auto payment and I had already moved my funds to my new bank. No money = they charge me a fee. I get it. That's on me. But WF tried running the payment through 2 MORE TIMES!! And charged me 2 MORE FEES. By this time I had already paid my cable bill via my new bank. I have it in writing that my cable company did NOT attempt to collect after that first time! WF did the to collect more fees! So at this point I'm over drawn by about $30. I go to my new bank and instruct them to go ahead and pay them so I can close that WF account. Their procedure is to test deposit 2 small amounts to make sure future transfers are correct. They sent a total of 82 cents. All good. I initiated a transfer to WF bank for the amount required to close the account. Last night my new bank tries to take their 82 cents back and BAM! WF charged me again!!! Doing business with WF bank has turned out to be EXTREMELY COSTLY! So again, BEWARE!

Also, when my debit card was stolen, I had a new one in-hand two days later, without even entering a branch to report the theft, activate the card, or set up my pin. One of the reasons I use Uwharrie Bank is their commitment to the community. The bank is always sponsoring events and supporting local initiatives--support local so your money stays local!! Uwharrie Bank is a North Carolina Bank, and it only has one location in Concord, which obviously gets frustrating when you are across town. Additionally, the location is not open on Saturdays (although they have extended Friday hours which is helpful). None of this is surprising for a local bank, but it is the reason why I gave Uwharrie Bank four stars.
