Matthew, the Innkeeper, seems to have thought of everything when it comes to comfort and relaxation. Our brunch each morning was healthy, fresh, and gourmet prepared. There was complimentary wine and finger foods in the downstairs shared sitting area each late afternoon and evening. Matthew was always attentive, warm, and welcoming with any requests. We loved that we were steps away from the main shopping street of the town, and walking distance from historical sites to tour and the charming businesses of the town. We plan on returning to The Jail Hill Inn and becoming "repeat offenders" as we loved staying in our room so much this past weekend we still have so much of Galena to see.

The pancakes were super fluffy with this amazing cinnamon and citrus butter that took an already amazing pancake to a height I have rarely experienced. ..the next morning was the homemade cinnamon rolls. This is all made possible by two amazing inn keepers in Jim and John. They are funny, creative, awesome people whose number one goal is to make your stay incredible. They also have a barn with ducks, goats, and chickens. Meeting the animals is an experience in itself, but I have to let you experience some of the amazing things for yourself. Enjoy! This was our first time staying in a B&B and I think it was the right one for us! I have always…read morebeen nervous about the idea of staying in a stranger's home, I am kinda socially uncomfortable at times. We were afforded a lot of privacy as a note giving the pass code was in place, key in our room door, and breakfast was waiting in the kitchen in the a.m. Of course contact info was provided but we had no needs as the room was very nice, the Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom was amazing, and the small touches were great! We had a "living room" with tv and dvd player which was great since I often wake up in the middle of the night and was able to not bother my wife..... There was also a collection of books, games, and dvd's provided as well as drinks in the refrigerator. This lovely, older home, was a nice, quiet, private, change of pace from staying at your roadside hotel at basically the same price! We loved the Solon Langworthy House!

Marie had called us in the early afternoon to confirm details of our arrival, and everything was straightforward and hassle-free. Our 9:00 family-style breakfast in the morning was just wonderful! (I know I sound like I'm glowing, but it's only because we were just constantly pleased!) The fruit, French toast, and sausage were all fresh (and plentiful), and the freshly whipped cream was a happy asset for both toast and coffee. However it has a lot of charm that isn't present in a chain hotel. There are rumors of ghostly visitations, but we only found a TV on that we thought we had turned off when we went out to dinner. We couldn't find door 9 which was frustrating late at night with no one to call. It was the only door inside another door where both 9&10 were. Once in the room someone else's food was in the fridge. We needed the fridge to put food in and had no choice to put our food in a fridge that was not cleaned out. The fridge and A/C tan all night and that bothered my husband. The rest of the room looked clean, the beds were pretty comfortable. You have to remember your at an older motel, so it was dated. The other issue was in the morning a big dog ran at me growled and barked. I'm very nervous with dogs I don't know. The owner did not pick up on the fact that the dog terrified me... he just said no but did not grab the dog. Despite those things I do feel as though Arthur tries to make you comfortable, he apologized for the food in the fridge. It is quaint and it's beautiful hill country. I also learned the next morning that he drew a map on the envelope for where to find our room. I would have appreciated if he had described it over the phone. I can see the effort that was made. They do bring you coffee and cream in the morning and we were brought cookies. Having a fridge that was not cleaned out led me to wonder how well everything else is cleaned. I don't mind dated as long as it's clean and comfortable. There's room for improvement.

They surprised us with a little cake for our 50th. Every evening they hosted a cocktail hour with all the guests and they joined in the conversation. The breakfasts were amazing. A different breakfast everyday. They were also very helpful with things to do in the area and they always have recommendations for dinner and it does not disappoint.
