Prix-Fixe Friday (£37.50 for three courses): What a wonderful lunch with rental child #1 (RC#1),…read moreher sublime husband (HRC#1), and the bump that is soon to be my first rental grandchild! They took me to The Glass House at Kew's Station Parade - a picturesque square - the train station bustling with London commuters, on one corner an organic grocer across from a "Chemists" (we call them drug stores), and a butcher shop that features game pie, which is next to the subtle glass and wood front of The Glass House - the facade adds a dash of modernity to the tableau of Britishness of the Kew Parade. Now on to the food... AND WINE! Three courses, a HUGE wine list, menacing the Sommelier (Sorry - I'm persnickety), lovely waitstaff, a friendly General Manager, and delicious bread!!! What a treat!!! Let's start with the bread - a choice between raisin walnut or white bread. Don't fill up on bread - even if the waitstaff politely show you the basket multiole times and offer to place the warm deliciousness on your plate. How do you choose three courses from so many possible combinations? We discussed, we researched, then we chose, and decided to share bites.... We did have to resort to Google to look up a few dish items: chou farci (stuffed cabbage); lardo di Colonnata (mmmm lard - bacon's flavorful fatty cousin); and cime di rapa (Broccoli Rabe) Starters: Each plate was elegant and the flavors were wonderful, but the most beautiful plate of the day was HRC#1's Seared Orkney scallops, delica pumpkin, coco nibs, lime and watercress dressing (I've added pictures) - I was so visually stunned that I don't remember the taste. HRC#1 devoured it though.... which is a testament to the deliciousness. RC#1's Duck breast with bok choy, wasabi, teriyaki and grapefruit was intense, and the duck was so tender - it was a great start. I am a fan of eating things that have been hunted, so rounding out our starters was a succulent Rabbit ballotine rolled in pancetta, Dijon mustard, caramelised kohlrabi and lovage - yes,it may have been Bambi's Thumper served with the garden greens that had been nibbling on - but it was so delicious - with Italian bacon (pancetta) and the subtle bright earthiness of dijon mustard. The lovage really added to the dish with a fresh subtle crispness that offset the velvet richness of the rabbit. Wine: AKA where I showed off by torturing the sommelier... This is a Michelin listed restaurant - the wine library is extensive. Overwhelming for even for me. I wanted something from the Rhône - and was tempted to pick a Viognier - but why not have the professionals make a recommendation... he started off with an American Syrah - NOPE said the loud American (me), next he suggested a French Syrah - NOPE said I. I wanted a lighter wine. Then he suggested some blends - Syrah/Viognier - NOPE ... now even I was wondering "why Syrah???". Then he turned the page and uttered the word Gigondas - that ticked all the right boxes - Red, Rhône and really yummy! A bottle of Domaine des Pasquiers `14 - a black Grenache and Syrah blend that was fermented in concrete tanks (no oak) it was perfect! And a win/win the sommelier finally found a Syrah blend that I was going to agree with! Main Courses: HRC#1' s Cornbury estate fallow deer, roasted salisfy, pine, red cabbage and juniper was so good. The juniper was subtle, and I wanted to steal all of his red cabbage. RC#1 and I were back and forth talking about the Suffolk pork shoulder, chou farci, black garlic, cep croustade (spectacular flavour) and poached cranberries - the pork was amazing - long cooked and melt in your mouth, and the stuffed cabbage (chou farci) was a tight, flavorful comfort food. I went for fish: Roasted halibut, harissa, chorizo, confit red pepper, black quinoa and corn sauce. Even though I could not taste the chorizo and could not identify the vegetable (grilled bok choy?) I am still thinking about the corn sauce. It is wrong to lick your plate in polite company - so I didn't. But needles to say, Love, love, loved it. Dessert: You won't over eat at the glass house. The portion sizes are perfect, and they pack a wallop of taste. HRC#1's Passion fruit meringue, coconut ice cream and caramelised mango was lovely. I only tasted (did not eat all of) RC#1's Warm apple and pecan brioche with ginger ice cream, and the ginger ice cream is so intense - it was the best flavor of the night. I went for a classic Dark chocolate mousse, and milk ice cream yummy. Perfect way to end a terrific meal with 2.5 of my favorite people in the world! TL;DR: Relaxed atmosphere with formal service. Seasonal, delicious food with great staff and an extensive wine list. Expensive but totally worth it!

The barman couldn't recollect the full list of tea options available so, obligingly, he brought over the whole display box for me to make my choice. I opted for a Wellbeing variety, at £1.90, served in a tall glass - brought over to my table, when it was ready. It's a cosy, comfortable, elegant place to take a breather and I felt quite happy waiting on my own until my friend arrived. Copies of The Independent are freely on-hand, to peruse, as you relax. Revived and warmed after my herbal tea, I moved-on to some food and wine when my friend arrived. The menu has plenty to appeal, with a wide range of well-priced European-themed starters. My choice of scallops (£8.95) was even better than I anticipated - optimally cooked, perfectly fresh - enhanced by the unusual accompaniment of fennel purée, oven-dried tomatoes and sprouted seeds. The wine list offers an excellent range, many by the glass, categorised by 'weight' and flavour. Service was sweetly efficient and prompt in this modern, chic setting. Recommended for a decently-priced, relaxing drink or snack when you're in the area, at any time of day.

But I'm not sure I'd be able to afford to eat there, seeing that they charge an obscene £2 for a half of Diet Coke (The cheap Pump sort, not the bottled variety) that was also flat & needed more syrup, as it tasted watered down, like the syrup had almost run out (I use to run pubs & nightclubs, a few years ago & know how much of a huge mark up that is, for a pump mixer) I'm afraid £2 is a bloody ridiculous price for 250ml of on pump Coke. You can get a Pint of Diet Coke, off the tap for £1.50, in pub's in St Albans, and St Albans is a rich area, that is the Mayfair of the New Monopoly Board!! A glass of wine, half a Coke & 2 pkts of crisps £11 crazy, my travel-card, return train fare, to St Albans, was only £1 more at £12!! Two Large bottles of Bulmers & a shot in London's Soho earlier was £10, which I'd expect for 3 alcoholic drinks, but £11 for 1 alcoholic drink, one soft drink & 2pkt of crisps, is NOT reasonable, and a rip off! I think it's this kind of pricing, not smoking bans, that lose pubs trade!! It was a spacious, nice looking place though, but some of the clientele looked a bit colourful/rough & ready, so not sure if they are locals or were passing through? Nice building but the prices need looking at. I did complain about my flat, watery tasting coke & the Manager did exchange it for a bottle of Pepsi, but it was only a 200ml bottle, not the 250ml I'd paid £2 for (I'd of been better off getting a 330ml can of Diet Coke at the Kings Cross station for 60p) Best to visit while your feeling flush.

Let me start by saying the food was 'OK', nothing to shout about but nice. The small portion size was a a bit of a problem. I was left still hungry after their Roast Rump of Lamb, there were no side dishes. The location of the Wharf is really nice. Just by Teddington Loch so you can watch the boats on the Thames. The dining area is floor to celling glass so everyone gets a good view. The service was absolutely abominable. For want of a better word the waiters were 'snooty' and very unobliging. We were a party of five. Myself and three others arrived first. We were asked weather we wanted to sit at the bar or go straight to the table, so we opted to go to the table. The Waiter then proceeded to put the menu's on the table, walk away and never come back. No offer of drinks while we wait, it took me to get up and get a waiter to be served some drinks. When the rest of our party arrived, exactly the same thing happened. After we finally had our drinks we started browsing the menu. The Waiter then appeared again to tell us the kitchen was closing in 15 minutes so we needed to order now! I enquired later as to why you would take a booking for 5 at a time when the kitchen was about to close and the received the response of "most of our patrons order quickly"....... The final nail in the coffin for the evening was the fact that we were offered no choice of desert and then were rudely ushered off the table so they could clear away. We headed down to the bar and an hour later I noticed the same table was still unoccupied. So avoid the Wharf like the plague. The location at Teddington lock is lovely but you will be treated like you're a nuisance, not a paying customer. I hope this review has help steer you off the idea of having dinner at the Wharf.

If anything it is off the 'main beat' of the High Street, but certainly not out of reach, although it maybe suffers from 'out of sight, out of mind.' The staff are equally friendly and welcoming. On the dot our waiter, introduced himself to us and shows us to our table. The menu reads well, offering a good choice without overpowering you or using foodie 'jargon'. For starters, we had Shetland Island Mussels "Marinière" and had Roasted Rump of Lamb & Rib Eye for our main course which, was done as per our request medium rare. The food was truly out of this world and is a "must have" when visiting this place and goes perfectly with Argentina (Pinot Noir). Overall, food and service was excellent. Our request for a waterside table was graciously accommodated. Service was attentive without hovering. Excellent service!

There was outdoor areas with lighting, but a tad too cold out. Cute areas though. They were pretty busy as well and luckily we got a good table. Wait staff were friendly, pace of service was a little slower than what I'm used to. Had to hail someone down quite a bit, but overall food was great. We started out with cocktails because there was a special, happy hour going on. Potted Devon crab with avocado guacamole and chicken liver parfait. Not sure why I expected the Devon crab to be hot.... but it was tasty. I craved a couple more pieces of toast. I got the duck leg confit with citrus sauce and my friend got St. Austell's Tribute Steak and Ale pie. The duck was delicious. Perfectly cooked, sauce went well with it. The Dauphinoise potato, I wanted more so badly. My plate was cleaned except for the bones. The steak and ale pie was not bad, my friend enjoyed it. We finished dinner off with their pistachio soufflé. I asked what was recommended for dessert, never had a pistachio soufflé before, and it was rich and sweet. Offset by the chocolate ice cream, which had a slight bitterness to it. Perfect combination. The table next to us got the chateaubriand for two. That looked amazing and had my mouth watering. If I'm ever back in the area, I do plan on making another trip hopefully.

This place definitely delivered. We sat outside in their pleasant garden. Only downside is it's not south facing so wasn't in the sun. We got a bit chilly after a while so we moved to one of their tables with a heater. Much more cosy. Service was very friendly. They brought some water and offered biscuits to our dog (always a winner). Food was excellent. The beetroot and burrata salad was particularly tasty and beautifully presented. Potted shrimp was also very tasty. It gets 4 rather than 5 because it is a little expensive. Worth it but still a bit pricey for a pub. We would definitely return if we were in the area as there were a lot of delectable sounding items on the menu.
