Truesdale knows his stuff when it comes to safety, shooting, and the law, but is a little heavy handed with his political opinions. He has a habit of going on tangents about his positions on the civil war (the "War of Northern Aggression" as he calls it), police involved shootings, controversial shootings/killings involving people of color, abortions, and the current state of the country/world. One would expect some political talking points related to a CCW class, but it was excessive. I found it unprofessional. Just offering some constructive criticism, from one professional to another. Other than that, he is a good instructor who explains things well and makes safety for everyone a top priority. I can say the same for the other 2 gentleman at the range. Great instructors with lots of knowledge. Safety is a priority. read more

Growing up shooting and being in the military I like most people thought I knew how to shoot, until I trained with Joe and his team many years ago, at this time he fixed everything I thought I knew. Fast forward to now, my girlfriend wanted to learn how to shoot and she having zero experience and me being a terrible instructor I brought her to Joe for her to be trained properly by the best. She was very intimidated before the class but at the end Joe had her safely drawing a loaded pistol and putting rounds in her target in constant groups and made her much more confident in herself and skills. I've gone to a few different trainers in my 16 years of being a CCW holder but changed to One on One about 6 years ago because I procrastinated and couldn't get into a class with my then normal trainer. Boy am I glad I procrastinated. If I didn't, I wouldn't have found my "forever trainers." All of my previous instructors talk down to their students in their attempt to be stern. I get it, they are teaching a very serious and necessary skill, but Joe, Fred, and Ryan are different. Ok so, I don't wanna slam the instructor here, as I feel this particular individual doesn't fit that criteria to go over the details, in length, of why i chose my " stars " review. Let's just say as fact, in retrospect, i should have done better research to fit my firearms training needs as a disabled person. I recently attended the CCW class at One on One Firearms and I am so impressed I already signed up for another class in May and am about to sign up for a June one as well. I honestly didn't know what to expect and was a little concerned about the instructors being intimidating and unfriendly, turns out they were the complete opposite. Everyone was kind, incredibly helpful, offered constructive feedback without being condescending and kept the class light and fun while maintaining a safe and educational environment. I went to the handgun foundations class today with Fred and Ryan as the instructors. It was my very first time shooting, and had no idea how it would go. But they did not make me feel dumb at all, I wasn't judged, it was an awesome experience and I learned so much :).. I even hit a few things. It was a small group of 8 students and it was a great environment for learning. I really appreciated the one on one times that helped me correct (or work on correcting lol) where I was going wrong. Just completed the 8 Hour Shotgun 1 - Tactical Defense Class. It was my first training class as a new 12-gauge owner. Joe and Ryan instructed this course and they were great! They took safety VERY seriously. Class was suitable for all skill levels as they went over safety procedures, in-depth explanations of ammo types and applications, different 12-gauge weapon systems and how they work, recommendations and thoughts on how to set up a 12-gauge for defense/competition. They drilled how to resolve malfunctions and how to properly load and manipulate a shotgun. Great class that felt safe the entire time while being the most fun I've had behind a gun. I trained with Fred Mowrey and he is amazing! I had two private sessions and I feel much more confident handling a firearm. Fred is extremely knowledgeable and he's also very patient. This is the second time taking the 4 hour CCW Renewal class but my first time reviewing (long overdue). Joe, Fred, and Ryan were all informative, SAFE, and easy to talk to. For the first half of the course, Joe covered the classroom portion. He made it fun, added some personal stories and provided a lot of content regarding the laws and regulations for my county. For the second half at the range, Fred and Ryan covered the qualification piece. First and foremost, I appreciated the extent they covered safety during our time at the range. Took the Handgun 1 - Foundations course with One on One and I couldn't be happier with my decision. Excellent, incredibly knowledgeable staff there to teach and reinforce technique. A light-hearted, but disciplined experience that I really enjoyed. There were about 8-10 of us broken up into two groups with each group taking a turn at the line. 3 instructors walking the line and making sure that everyone is getting the assistance and tweaks that each student needs to perfect their technique. One of their sponsored competition shooters was in our group that day, so it was like having an extra instructor there to assist. You wouldn't buy a car without learning how to operate it safely and responsibly. You owe it to yourself (and your family) as a gun owner to do the same for your firearms.
