I signed up for ONE on ONE Firearms' Home Defense Shotgun Course. I love that this was a small class. Joe Truesdale puts safety first in everything the class does. He is passionate and enthusiastic, very patient and makes it a point to spend One on One time with every student through every drill. He encourages questions and you can't help but leave feeling more confident. I went from not handling a shotgun in 20 yrs to understanding current gun laws, handling techniques and situational awareness. Best of all...I had fun!!

I went to the handgun foundations class today with Fred and Ryan as the instructors. It was my very first time shooting, and had no idea how it would go. But they did not make me feel dumb at all, I wasn't judged, it was an awesome experience and I learned so much :).. I even hit a few things. It was a small group of 8 students and it was a great environment for learning. I really appreciated the one on one times that helped me correct (or work on correcting lol) where I was going wrong. Overall, I am so happy I went today, and I definitely recommend them to anyone :) thank you, and I'll be back!

Range setup for patterning, manipulations, and firing drills.

Just completed the 8 Hour Shotgun 1 - Tactical Defense Class. It was my first training class as a new 12-gauge owner. Joe and Ryan instructed this course and they were great! They took safety VERY seriously. Class was suitable for all skill levels as they went over safety procedures, in-depth explanations of ammo types and applications, different 12-gauge weapon systems and how they work, recommendations and thoughts on how to set up a 12-gauge for defense/competition. They drilled how to resolve malfunctions and how to properly load and manipulate a shotgun. Great class that felt safe the entire time while being the most fun I've had behind a gun. Definitely ended the day with gained skill sets and increased confidence.

Ask the Community - ONE on ONE Firearms

Are any of the instructors qualified to requalify a retired correctional officer?

Yes sir!

What is the difference between the new shooter handgun basics class and the handguns 1 foundations class?

The Basic class is just that, the basics. The mechanics of your handgun, the differences of a revolver vs. a semi-auto, how to load, site picture, and pull the trigger. Hopefully hit what you aimed at. The Handgun 1 class builds on this… Read more

Do any of the handgun classes go over gun cleaning?

No specific gun cleaning information in the Handgun 1 class. This is a great series of classes, but to be blunt you can watch few YouTube videos about hand gun cleaning and save the class time which is better spent learning the basics of handling… Read more

I am a novice at shooting. I have a glock 19 and an ar15. I would like to get training with both. Do you offer rifle training for rifels?

They have both beginner and advanced carbine training, so you're good to go.

I appreciate Cora taking the time to help me build my skillset and understanding in the firsts steps and next steps courses. Her expertise and guidance helped me to not only learn how to use a FA but to have fun and not be afraid! Jaysen made my first purchase easy and was very knowledgeable on the questions I had as well. SGR has helped me to feel right at home and comfortable, I'd highly recommend paying them a visit if you're like me and didn't know much about FA's. The range itself is huge and has a great selection of FA's and accessories.

But holy crap... it gets SO hot inside the range. During the summer you're literally sweating and dripping the entire time, which makes it pretty uncomfortable. One visit I was told I couldn't go in because I had open toed shoes on, which I understand because safety rules are safety rules. But then another person walked in wearing a crop top and booty shorts and that was apparently fine, so it felt a little inconsistent. Another time I asked if I could buy the sticky pads for my targets instead of purchasing completely new targets, and the employee responded with "Well you have to buy them" in a way that honestly made me feel awkward and uncomfortable. Like... obviously I expected to pay for them. Besides those experiences, the place is okay overall, but customer interactions and the temperature inside definitely could be improved.

The problem is the firearms counter. I have purchased a few guns there over the past 13 years, and the experience has universally been horrible. The basic tone is this: The staff's demeanor is as if they are doing you a favor by selling you something. They are quite deliberately aloof, indifferent, and they slow-walk everything they do. This occurs whether they are busy or not. Either way, it will be an agonizingly slow experience if you want help or want to purchase a firearm. They randomly chose to use or ignore their "take a number" system, and when you go in there's never any way to tell whether you should take a number or not. You can stand at the counter, waiting for help for an hour at times. Often they won't acknowledge your presence or even make eye contact. It feels as if you are offending them by even being there, and they want nothing more than for you to just go away. If you actually wish to purchase a firearm, I would recommend budgeting at least two hours in the store. Or better yet, go to another store that has some level of competent management and values their customers. That's what I'm going to do. The clearest way I can explain it? The firearms counter at Sportsman's Warehouse is exactly like trying to get help from a big city branch of the California DMV. That sums it up perfectly.

We are novice gun owners and it is imperative to us that we learn everything we need to know about our gun -- including safety, handling and firing. At the start of our two-hour course, my husband and I were extremely nervous and unsure about our gun purchase. Jeremy patiently guided us through each phase, answering our questions, filling us with knowledge and confidence pertaining to all aspects regarding gun ownership. Understanding the importance of respecting our pistol, along with everything gun ownership entails, has helped us to implement the rules necessary to stay safe and protected with our firearm. We have been performing our daily homework and can honestly say that we feel much more confident today, than when we first entered the Spec Group door. We no longer tremble and perspire at the mere THOUGHT of holding our pistol. After our training, coupled with our daily homework, we can now confidently handle and maneuver our pistol, without so much as a drop of perspiration. Our experience with Spec Group has been a positive, encouraging encounter and we look forward to our next course.

Buyer Beware (0 stars if possible)…read more I had a very negative experience with Davis Gun Worx and would strongly caution others before doing business here. On January 29, I called about having Magpul furniture installed on my Maverick 88 shotgun. I was told it would be a simple job and take less than an hour. I dropped the firearm off in person on January 30. At that time, I was told he had just returned from SHOT Show and was busy, but to give him two days and call back. After two days, I began calling and could not get a response. I attempted to contact him repeatedly on February 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, and 11. I was only able to reach him once, and during that call he told me it would be another two days because he was still busy. I never received a return call, and all follow-up communication had to be initiated by me. I even went to the business location during posted business hours. The "open" sign was on, but no one answered the door. At that point (Feb 12th), my firearm had been in his possession far longer than the quoted timeframe with no communication, so I contacted the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. When deputies called him, he answered immediately. However, when I called him right afterward, he became hostile and aggressive, demanding I pick up the firearm immediately because he no longer wanted it on his property. He also told the deputy that I had dropped the firearm off only a week prior and that he had informed me he needed to order parts. That is not accurate. I was told twice it would take two days, and I was never informed that parts needed to be ordered. Because of his hostility on the phone, I requested deputies be present when retrieving my firearm. When it was returned (Feb 13th), the barrel, the bag I brought it in, and the flashlight I intended to have installed were not returned with it. I will now have to go through small claims court to hopefully retrieve my property. Between the lack of communication, the extended possession of my property, the lies told to law enforcement, and the missing items, this was an extremely unprofessional and concerning experience. I would strongly advise others to proceed with caution. Communication and professionalism are essential in this industry, and that is not the experience I had AT ALL.

I have a passion for advocating for students and had to defend myself in this situation when there should not have been a situation. Effie Crush, former head of HR (she's abruptly "retiring") and representative who spoke on Superintendent David Gordon's behalf, stated the abuse and neglect I witnessed with my own two eyes raised concerns for the district (it should have). While mocking my status as a sub, it was stated that I made "judgements" against the other employees and that as a "sub" because I hadn't worked in the class where the abuse and neglect occurred, I didn't know the students IEP's and staff enough to have written what I did. I questioned whether or not an IEP or "judgement" would -ever- tell employees to NOT feed students, force their head to a table, etc. The response I received from the district was that they 'cared' about student safety and well-being...really? If that were true, those comments would not have been made and I wouldn't be till this day unable to work for them. This is my review and truth for all to see and stay mindful of where you send your children.
