There is a main area for weights with a couple of squat racks and benches as well as other machines. Yes, the equipment has seen better days, but the patrons are all respectful of weights and each other, so everything is still holding on. There are two rooms with a surprisingly wide variety of cardio machines (treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, rowing machines, and one or two others I'm not sure the names of). Down the stairs is the pool and the locker rooms, and through the locker rooms is the large aerobics room. Again, the equipment/mats here have seen better days, but it's manageable. There are kettlebells, medicine balls, and dumbbells on both floors for plenty of workout space. The staff is very friendly, and a lot of the patrons have some relation to BU med or BMC due to its close proximity. If you want to swim laps you have to pay extra but otherwise you can swim during recreational swim and use the track most of the time. I come here regularly because it's close to my house and I can walk there. I probably lost about 35 pounds between swimming and diet changes since joining in March.

IF ONLY the Housing section and VULNERABLE TENANTS were treated as wonderfully as the gym and gym members that would be nice. Tenants are watched like criminals from behind an ALWAYS CLOSED CRUZ MANAGEMENT COMPANY office door, but Huntington House is not a prison, jail, halfway house, shelter, recovery/treatment center, or the like. It is simply low-income/subsidized housing where tenants are treated very disrespectfully by the YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON'S agent CRUZ MANAGEMENT COMPANY. The building is treated just as poorly as tenants. Hallways and common areas are rarely swept or cleaned. Trash bins are often placed inside on the residential hallway on at least one floor, instead of outside of the entrance door to the residential floors. Exterminations are rare and many tenants would probably describe their units as uninhabitable. Complaints, maintenance requests are either ignored or, well, ignored! The general negligence in oversight by the YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON of CRUZ MANAGEMENT COMPANY "property managers" is nonexistent EVEN when YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON officials are apprised of problems and, in my situation, even after multiple legal actions. AND I COULD GO ON AND ON...AND ON!!!...AND ON!!!!! INSTEAD, I will refer you to my Substack account. It's an awesome project and Healthworks holds orientation sessions throughout the year for volunteering at the Foundation. I'm still in the process of looking into volunteering here, so this is all I can say for now!
