We had a very good experience with One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning. Our heat pump was alerting us that our system was not heating during those really cold days. We called based on neighbor referrals. The technician arrived about 2 hours after our request, diagnosed the problem, reset the system and we were back up and running. The technician (I think his name was Chris) was courteous and explained the problem thoroughly. He was prompt and efficient. Once the system was fixed he called and let me know. And for the diagnosis and fix it was very cost efficient. I would recommend them. read more

a/c stopped working 6/22. Got an appointment on the 24th. Said we needed to replace a part.. What they didn't tell us was they weren't gonna get the part. Today is July 7th and they still have no idea what's going on, but won't return calls! Would never recommend them to anyone. One was amazing. We need all new cooper lines and insulation for our 4 heat pimps plus a new heating coil in one unit. Jacob and his associate completed the necessary work over 2 days, Thursday and Friday, and worked until 8pm on Friday to insure all the work was completed. When we bought the house we knew the AC units were short for this world. 3 years later, one finally died. We had reached out to a couple of other AC service companies and did not hear back. NOT a issue with One Hour! I had left a after hours message on their website and within 5 minutes they called and set up a service call time. The technician showed up on time, and as we suspected the up stairs unit was beyond saving for a number of reasons. While we didn't ask, they also checked the second unit (which they said was in great shape). They went over replacement options, and scheduled when they could do it. Much as the service call, they showed up on time and the installation team did a awesome job removing the old unit from the attic, installing the new unit, set up diagnostics, etc. Really start to finish they were timely, professional and provided updates though the whole process. read more

I had an issue with my AC freezing up. The unit was only 2 years old from a recent house sale. The technician came 1 hour late and after I showed him where the leak at the refrigerant line was, (right at the outside compressor connection), he stated is would be a $1000 repair!!. After I told him to leave after 5 mins, and I would not use his company, he asked " What about $600"? I refused and sent him on his way. Called another company. They easily repaired the line leak and recharged the unit for only $150 and were there for only 45mins!! I would not use One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning. I am in the construction business and knew what needed to be done. Their tech was just trying to make some fast bucks. Very dishonest read more

One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning Kitty Hawk N.C. Online Review 04/23 WALK AWAY! No, don't walk, RUN !!! Reasons for running away based on my experience from their work accomplished in April and August 2023. Also included is a synopsis of the events as they occurred. - [ ] No quality check or inspection as they advertise what so ever on the initial work accomplished. - [ ] The wiring/ blower motor speed was not connected correctly for the application. The system could not reach set demand temperature with only a six degree indoor/outdoor temperature differential. - [ ] A third technician came out the following day to fix, changed the wiring connections and burned up the brand new blower motor. - [ ] On day three a "company job site inspector" came out to inspect the entire installation. I believe the inspector was the brother in law of the owner. He assured me everything is now installed correctly and that he even double checked the wiring and that all the settings were in accordance with specifications for the the system as installed. WRONG AGAIN ! See next item below. - [ ] In August, 4 months after completion of installation, the emergency condensate drain pan became clogged and both the primary and secondary emergency float switches installed to shut the system down and prevent overflow of the drain pan failed to activate. Both switches were wired incorrectly. As a result, the pan overflowed wetting the ceiling joists, attic insulation, ceiling drywall, and carpeting below. Run away from this company. Our air conditioner stopped working so my brother called One hour heating and air conditioning. They came out but it was pouring rain so they said they could not check the outdoor unit but no worries they will come back later and no charge since there was no service. They came back, said their was a crack and ordered a part and it was fixed ... for 2 months for $1500. Now we have no air conditioning and they keep sending us bills for $125 for the first visit when we got no service - which they said we would not be charged for and the guy we gave $1500 to said we were all good. For weeks we call to clear the misunderstanding up. They have stopped taking our calls but keep sending us the same $125 bill. AND NO AIR CONDITIONING! I should charge them $1500. Bottom line. Go someplace else. UPDATE: The manager contacted me. Let me know he did not believe that we called repeatedly about the billing issue; he did not believe that I wrote about the billing issue; not clear he believed that his technician told us there would be no charge because of the rain. He also clarified correctly that it was $109 (plus interest and referred for collection) not $125. He explained that this was a small amount that was not something he would be bothered with and I should have rightfully been charged more. He is no longer sending us to collections. I have revised my review per his suggestion now that "we know the facts". And he correctly states that my old air conditioner probably would have broke again in 2 months anyway. read more

He informed us on each step in the process and quickly got the job done. When we called the office to schedule the appointment, we were immediately greeted with a friendly voice who was able to schedule us the appointment in a timely manner. I had fantastic experience with this HAVC company. After recently acquiring beach cottage in Outer Banks I needed a full inspection to make sure the system was going to last. The house was a rental property and did not get any maintenance due to the prior owner looking for quick income only. I reached out to Outer Banks Heating & Cooling to ask for a visit. During the initial call I got tones of useful information in regards to their contracts with homeowners in the area. I signed up for a "Plus" Service Agreement and had a technician in my home in no time. The technician (JC) did great job explaining to me (yes, he did draw me some pictures) what the system needed ASAP and what could wait a while. I end up going for the full recommendation of work. The techs arrived the very next day and did it all and leaving my house clean. It helped that I was able to do the transactions over the phone and e-mail. This company has great office personnel who understands that most homeowners are out of the area and need easy, quick resolutions to their concerns. Brian and his team were able to install a system at our beach Rental in Crown Pt Corolla in the height of the heat during rental season, 2016. The company I used previously, couldn't get there for a more than a week . I didn't want to lose my rental income. ObxHC was there the next day and completed the replacement install that day. We replaced both indoor and outdoor units. Happy renters, very happy owner, -me. Now (June 2017) they just finished replacing my mid-level system which was also aging. I decided to be pro-active and not wait to risk losing tenants again this season. The price was decent, service great, warranty great. I highly recommend them !! read more

We have been on a service plan with Outer Banks Heating and Cooling for 12 years. When you own a summer rental house you need to be prepared to handle AC emergencies right away or have unhappy renters. Our house is close to the ocean and it is pretty tough to keep the outside unit in good shape. They have been called at least once every summer for some HVAC issue and have resolved it quickly. They are not the cheapest but the service is very good, which can be hard to come by on the OBX. They have installed a new outside unit for us and gave us several price choices, fortunately it did not fail during the middle of the season and they let us know when it was dying. I would recommend Outer Banks Heating and Cooling to others looking for quality and service. read more

We were building a home on the Outer Banks in Colington Harbour and acting as the general contractor ourselves. It was a daunting task that we had done many times but never 66 miles from home. When it came time to select who was going to do the HVAC, I had limited knowledge about HVAC on the outer banks other than there were a lot of vacation homes and not many reputable HVAC contractors. So I typed HVAC reviews outer banks into google. Yelp popped up and I read all 6 reviews. 5 excellent and 1 horrible. I dissected the horrible one to death and was most interested in the response from the owner that was really on point. At that point I called him for a quote, which took a couple of weeks by itself - very normal. After receiving the quote I thought it was a bit high and my wife showed it to a friend who was also a HVAC contractor in Chesapeake and he said it was a great quote and we should accept, so we did. At this point we were about six weeks away from the rough in stage so I kept in regular contact with Mr. McDonald. Rough in lasted approximately 10 days and between 2 and 5 guys worked each day. There were a few hiccups along the way which is very normal for new construction, but they finished on time and did an excellent job. By this time, I felt as I had received an excellent deal. About a month later OBHC returned to set the units and finish the job. As I was walking thru the home with the Building Inspector and getting all of my final inspections he asked if I was happy with OBHC and I told him they were great. He said that they were the Best on the Beach and during his inspection he found nothing wrong. Six months later everything is still working fine and we could not be happier. read more

Do not use this company. This company charged me over 1000% mark-up for a part and defended the practice as the cost of doing business. I am willing to pay $120 for the service call and $50 extra to "check the freon" but I will not happily pay $176 for a $15 part. This is price gouging at its worst and the owner was not willing to work with me at all. read more

Outer Banks Heating & Cooling always does such a great job maintaining our system. They are prompt and courteous. In fact, today, my husband and I had a miscommunication and no one was here when the technician arrived. He waited in the driveway until I drove home and then pulled out of the driveway long enough for me to park my car in the garage. They remove their shoes when they enter the house and are very efficient at getting the job done in a timely manner. Jake from Outer Banks Heating & Cooling came today to perform a leak test after Patrick (came earlier for our service contract inspection-see my previous review) discovered one of our systems was low in refrigerant. In the course of his investigation, he discovered several areas of the system, which due to time and exposure to the harsh environment, are going to need replacement in the future. This information allows me to plan for the replacement instead of being blind sided with an unexpected expense and was much appreciated. Both technicians were thorough and took time to ensure that I understood their findings and recommendations. I am very pleased with Outer Banks Heating & Cooling and recommend them. read more
