Card holder for my game of Star Realms
    Lena M.

As a big board gamer, I love that we have a board game shop in Richmond, especially in Carytown (the unofficial land of speciality shops). Although it is a bit pricey, you can always find what you need at One Eyed Jacques. If they don't have it, they can always order it for you. I love the people who work here. Not only are they kind and knowledgeable, but they'll spend time answering your questions and giving recommendations. I came here looking for a specific game for a friend's birthday. Although that particular game wasn't available, they gave me over five other engine building game recommendations in the store. Another great thing about this shop is they'll buy your Magic cards. I was able to get a good amount of credit. I recently bought a hot pink Boulder deck case for my game of Star Realms that I'm obsessed with. I also love their wall of DnD miniatures. I'm not sure of the schedule, but I've seen people play Magic: The Gathering here. This place has all the games you could want and more. They also have a great selection of discounted games in the back. One Eyed Jacques is a great holiday shopping stop for the gamer in your life.

One Eyed Jacques is a fun store and so easy to pop-in and give a look around whenever I'm in Carytown. It's fun to look at and discover so many board games, and card games and anything else game-related. I'm always finding new games I've never heard of before but look fun to try. I love their back area that schedules and hosts social games for kids and adults (depending on the day and time of day). This is the kind of store that gives Carytown its reputation for unique, local shopping. They have a back section where games that have received usually some minimal level of damage are sold at a discount - I've found loads of useful games from this section, often with barely noticeable damage to the corner of a box. If you like fun games with friends in the old school way (no fancy lights or video games here) then One Eyed Jacques is a place worth trying.

    To die for!!

This shop is to "die" for... yes, as soon as you walk in, you are face to face with their wall of dice! They are pretty cool! Every color and size for all your gaming adventures. I particularly liked the gold pair of dice! The game selection is unique. This is not your typical "Monopoly" type game store. I have purchased games like Settlers of Catan (multiple versions) and Ticket to Ride along with some gorgeous puzzles. And if you are into card games, this place is "decked" out! So many interesting packs to choose from. I loved the magnetic word games too, especially the Shakespeare version! They also carry popular figurines and other toys and novelties. Be sure to check out the back of the store for discount games too! And enjoy playing a game or two at the tables they have set up! Well played, OEJ! I was inquiring about a particular series to see if they had any items relating to it (Ranger's Apprentice) and the guy behind the counter wasn't very receptive or helpful. So I went down further and asked a couple of other staff members who were equally lackadaisical. They all seemed bored of their jobs... but with all this fun, inspiring, fantastical merchandise surrounding them, I found that surprising. Kick the service up a notch and they'd be a 5! Even so, I'd roll the dice and return here whenever I'm in Carytown! It's an awesome store! Embrace your inner Geek!

I was pretty impressed with this little but packed local game store. I came to visit friends and since most of us were gamers, this was the obvious "sight" to bring us to see. A pretty varied and decent sized collection of games in the front and then a size-able play area in the back. They had all the popular games that I've seen but I noticed they had a pretty large collection of Star Trek figurines and games as well. One thing I particularly loved was their sale/clearance section. It's right by the play area and you'd be surprised what you can find there. They slash prices up to 50% off when games come in damaged. I bought Qwirkle for $15 and the edge of the box was just slightly indented. I know I wouldn't be able to find a better price anywhere else! I wish I can come by and check out all their sale items often but I was just a visitor in town. I recommend people to scavenge for good games in the back! We also enjoyed having some down time just playing random games they had out. Esp. since it was so hot outside, the AC and games were much welcomed.

WOW!! I am loving this small shop. Next time I'm in Richmond I'm definitely coming back here. An entire wall of board games to choose from, this shop is for the ultimate gamer. They were able to point me right to the a whole slew of cooperative games which is where I learned that Zombicide is THE BEST COOPERATIVE GAME EVER. Zombies aren't my thing but I did discover a new game that I might grab a certain someone for an upcoming special occasion. They have a nice selection of gaming accessories, including many many types of dice in different colors. They also had small little fun things that would be great for the gamer in your life. Best of all - there was a huge section in the back for folks to play games. I saw lots of people playing Magic. I'm not sure if that's organized or if it's just open play but I wouldn't put it past them to organize tournaments. BONUS - for those on a budget head straight to the back of the store for a "scratch & dent" section for 50% off. HALF PRICE people!! I was impressed.People must really take their board games seriously for them to sell them at half price. My boyfriend would be absolutely all over this place if it was in Atlanta. And I'm definitely coming back here for Christmas shopping. Great place!

This business doesn't deserve even the one star that Yelp requires as a minimum…read more My son and I stopped in today because he wanted to check out their Pokémon inventory. While we were browsing, a young man in the store asked the employees behind the counter if they were interested in purchasing some cards from him. They declined. After hearing that, I casually mentioned that my son might be interested if the seller was looking to move them. My son even politely asked if that would be a problem. Instead of responding professionally or courteously, one of the employees immediately stated that if my son and the seller worked out a deal, they would owe the store a 15% commission. The comment came across as rude, unnecessary, and frankly absurd considering the store had already made it clear they had no interest in the transaction themselves. To avoid any issues, we left the store and sat on a nearby bench outside. A couple of minutes later, the owner/manager came outside and rudely questioned my son and the other young man about whether they were conducting business. When they answered honestly, he told us to get off "his property." The problem? We were on a bench alongside the sidewalk. What should have been a simple interaction escalated into an unnecessarily confrontational situation because of the owner's attitude and lack of basic customer service skills. Rather than treating potential customers with respect, he chose hostility, intimidation, and arrogance. Words were exchanged, and while it's doubtful he cares, he permanently lost our business. I fully understand that a business owner has the right to manage activities inside their store and maintain a professional environment. What I do not understand is the sense of entitlement and disrespect shown toward customers, especially when they were no longer on the premises. The entire encounter left the impression that the only thing that mattered was whether the owner was getting a piece of the transaction. The unfortunate reality is that behavior like this drives people away from the hobby and creates a toxic atmosphere that benefits no one. The one positive outcome from the experience was that my son and I met a genuinely nice young man and made a new friend. If you're looking for a card shop that values its customers and understands how to treat people with courtesy and respect, there are much better options in the area (BangerZ Cards, The Card Guys, etc.). We have had far better experiences elsewhere and will gladly take our business to shops that appreciate their customers.
