I had not had a lawn aeration at our home since we purchased the home six years ago, plus we had some thinning grass areas especially under some dense shade trees. I did some research online for lawn care companies in the Columbus area and based on the website and reviews on the website, decided to call and get a quote for the work. So I received a call from a technician saying he was in the area to go give me a quote for work. Here is where some of my frustrations began. I clearly stated in my email that I am just looking for quotes for aeration and overseeding or slice seeding. While he did indeed give me a quote for these services, he also quoted me for fertilization services which I clearly didn't ask for. So after getting a quote for slice seeding in our front yard in the area of a large shade tree, I called the main number to just confirm that they thought the possibility of grass to grow in this area was high and was worth the additional cost. The lady then told me that quite frankly, in her opinion I may be fighting a losing battle by trying to slide seed this area at all and that the better long term solution was to grow a ground cover instead. Obviously the next question I had was why the technician recommended to slide seed under the tree in the first place. I will say, however, the woman I spoke to in the office seemed extremely knowledge and answered any questions I had. However, I was hoping to speak directly with the technician who came to my house directly, but she said she could answer my questions. I felt talking to the person who saw my lawn first hand would be best, but oh well. Anyhow, in the end, they simply did an aeration and overseeding of the lawn for $160 plus tax which seemed like a very fair price to me. The lady in the office explained that they use a very high quality grass seed that while it is not quick to germinate, will provide a high quality grass once it grows. They performed the aeration and overseeding around the second week of September. Per their recommendations, I watered the lawn thoroughly before the aeration to get a deep plug and I watered my lawn for a good 10 minutes twice a day for four weeks. All I can say is for whatever reason, the grass seed growth was extremely sparse. I could definitely see some seed germination, but I don't know if simply not enough seed was placed, but any somewhat large bare patches are still just as bare as they were prior to the aeration/overseeding.
I've since followed up with two emails with the company through their website expressing my concerns, and to date, they have been unresponsive to both emails. The main reason I give One Care only two stars is the following:
1. Lack of response to my emails.
2. No follow-up after their work asking if I had any questions or concerns.
3. Technician in the field recommending a service that the lady in the office did not recommend only after I asked her.
I was really hoping for a positive experience and results with One Call but I can not say that is the case. read more
