After my class I filled out the survey that was emailed to me which gave me the option to attend a second class for free. After my second class I was hooked and signed up. Shred 415 has multiple class pack options to purchase. The entire facility is very clean and the provide quality equipment to use in class. The bathroom has everything you would need to prep yourself after class.... showers, towels, hairdryer, dry shampoo, hair spray. I enjoy that the class is in a cool temperature controlled studio. I've never been disappointed with the music playlist chosen for a class. I always catch myself singing along or pushing myself harder because of the beat. Shred 415 offers one hour classes that are divided into intervals, alternating between treadmill drills and strength training. Most classes are the standard four 15 minute intervals. I like that some instructors switch it up and do six 10 minute intervals or 2 fifteen minutes, 2 ten minutes, and 2 five minute intervals. I like to rotate between starting on the treadmill or on the floor. I try to attend a class 3-4 times per week. Shred 415 uses the MindBody app to sign up for classes. Each day they list multiple times with the instructor and the type of class (total body, arms & abs, butt & legs). I prefer to work out in the morning and they offer multiple class times for me to pick from. Some class times even offer childcare during the class, and it's clearly marked on the MindBody app. My first class I made it very clear that I WILL NOT be running on the treadmills ... the owner and instructor assured me that the treadmill intervals will be at my own pace. Approaching the end of my first two months and I'm occasionally running on the treadmill while in class. I love the entire staff at Shred 415. When I walk in the front door the staff knows my name and checks me in. The instructors give name shout outs to encourage during class.... and sometimes hearing my name gives me that extra push that I needed! The owner, Kathleen, very friendly and present. She quickly responded to my emails and made signing up a breeze! Thank you to Kathleen and the entire staff for making my morning work outs great! Come give Shred 415 a chance!

The staff is super cool, the facility is very clean, the treadmills are the best I have ever been on and the work out will kick your butt. I love group fitness. There is something so motivating about pushing through tough work outs with a group of people with similar goals. You can start on the treadmill or start on the floor. I have done both now and I prefer starting on the treadmill. I love running so having an instructor push me to 8% incline with speed is a fantastic feeling. Don't be intimidated though- you can walk if you want. The floor work that I did was total body. It is as challenging as you make it. There is a bench, mat, dumbbells and bands. You will go through 15 minutes of strength training and then rotate again to the treadmill and then back to the floor. In an hour you get your total body strength and cardio done. They even have childcare onsite! For you busy parents out there- Shred 415 makes it easy to work out.

I called and talked to the general manager, Tarek who was so very helpful, answered all my questions and encourage me to come in a take a tour of the gym. I had no idea that the gym has been there since 1984 about as long that we have lived in the south-end, across from the post office on Allmond Ave. The space is open with free weights, machines, a training area with all kinds of equipment to perform every exercise you could ever do. The staff are very friendly, plenty of parking right out side the door, men and women's locker rooms, a breakroom, healthy food options and a small kitchen. There are many bodybuilders who work out in the gym but everyone has been friendly and helpful if I have questions. Tarek hooked me up with Kayla, one of the trainers. You have to be a member of the gym to train there but they take Silver Sneakers so that is cool. I paid the gym directly for my training sessions and they cut you a deal if you pay for 8 sessions up front (one free). Kayla has been fantastic. As a body builder herself I feel confident in her workouts. She pushes me and I'm sore after our workouts but she is intent on preventing injury while building strength, mobility and balance. We had a couple of conversations prior to our first visit and she has tailored my sessions to work on my issues. I have finished 7 of my 8 sessions, going to the gym twice a week meeting with Kayla and what she wants me to focus on outside of our sessions together. She went out of town and sent me two workouts to do while she was gone. We will meet this week for our last session. I have been impressed with the facility, the staff and especially my trainer Kayla.

I enjoy the variety of classes offered & the opportunity to do my own workouts in the gym. After joining you are able to pick your code to use at the door key pad for 24/7 gym access. Flex Appeal uses the MindBody app to book classes at their gym. They offer Yoga, TRX, Spinning, Boot Camp, Killer Abs & Pound. I attend all my classes at the Germantown studio because it is so close to my house. I really enjoy the beginner yoga class Monday nights with Erin. Erin makes class easy with step by step instructions... put your foot & hand here. I personally love when I come & she has decided to do fascia work. I also attend the beginner boot camp classes on Tuesday & Thursday evenings. The beginner boot camp classes are typically small & I still leave in a sweat. If I'm free I like to kick start my Saturday mornings with the Killer Abs class. The Killer Abs class definitely hurts so good... I always question why I got out of bed to go but leave feeling accomplished. I have been working with Ken in personal training sessions. Ken is always changing up what we do weekly. I like that I can just show up to the gym & have him tell me what to do for 1 hour. He has helped me gain my confidence to go the gym & do an entire workout on my own. There have been several times when I have worked out at the Flex Appeal gym & had the entire gym to myself. Thank you to Erin & Ken for teaching great classes that I always enjoy. Shout out to the entire Flex Appeal staff for a great facility & an amazing workout every time!

The few I could find had hours that didn't work for me, or they never returned my request for information. Flex Appeal is different. It is small but mighty. For me, it is the weight lifter's gym I needed. You will not find lots of machines cluttering up the space. It's not crowded. You will find barbells, weights, dumbells, cages, a couple of cable machines, row machines, and some treadmills, among other things. The gym also offers personal training and classes. The staff are responsive, super friendly. They gave me a fantastic rate for the week. I like the inclusive language on the door welcoming everyone. That's not essential in a gym, but it resonates deeply with me! If you are serious about weight training, this gym is for you. I will return here whenever I travel to Louisville.

The trainer will walk you through the exercises at the beginning of each class and then they'll turn up high energy playlists for warm ups and the workouts. The trainers will take the time to help you with the exercises if you're struggling and suggest modifications to the workouts if you need them. I have a lot of good things to say about this very unusual and busy YMCA in downtown Louisville and I can see why everybody loves it because the people working here are off-the-charts friendly. The guy at the front desk was a southern gentleman of the younger variety and he helped me get into the building and told me where everything is and he could sense that I was in a hurry so he hurried along his instructions. He got me in within just a few seconds of showing up. So he gets 10 stars out of five. However the locker system just doesn't work. I used a very similar system in Memphis the other day and having never used a punch-button combination locker before I followed the sign and it worked perfectly and there were no issues. Not so much in Louisville. The signs are complex and contradictory. There are not many of the signs so I didn't even see one before I started using it. An old man told me how to work it and I did what he said and it immediately locked my stuff in without me entering a combination. I could not get to my stuff so I had to go all the way down at which point the guy at the desk told me that I could have just called him and the old man on the way out told me that this happens all the time and not to feel bad. Well I don't mean to be a jerk but if this happens all the time then there's a problem! Change the system LOL. The reason why it happens all the time is because these things just don't work very well. It's that simple. He told me that I could park for just a dollar in the garage across the street which I couldn't find in traffic, which was awful on all the streets near this Y, and didn't feel like carrying all my stuff from a different block anyway so I just use street parking which is freaking $0.25 for eight minutes which is absolutely freaking ridiculous. This is not New York City and in fact a lot of New York City has much more affordable parking than that. Ew. The actual equipment is pretty good and they have some nice mats and various different things that I could use and then there are other things that could be improved. Such as the bikes. And there was the whole locker room drama because apparently there's a lot of theft around here or at least people think there is so I was told not to leave my stuff in the locker room even for a couple of minutes unattended. The janitor guy actually came into the shower to tell me to come back and get my stuff. Pulled the curtain back on me naked in there, soaping up, and almost made me slip over while simultaneously having a heart attack. I appreciated the consideration and even gave me a 3 minute lecture about how things can go missing even with just a few seconds and he's absolutely right, in theory. But considering that I only spent 90 minutes here and then half of that time was dealing with drama, it wasn't really as appreciated as he meant it to be. The drama of the parking situation. The drama of the lockers that don't work properly. The drama of the shower warning. If you consider all of that then I think you'll consider four stars for this gym to be pretty generous. Should really be less, but the southern young gentleman checking me in and sorting out my locker was so nice, he carries the 4 star rating. But basically no workout for me because of dramaaaa. Next time I'll use one in a different part of the city.
