It was my first time here, my mom and I had a great experience! This review is mainly for purchasing items, not selling items. We came looking for winter items, thank goodness we found plenty! Clothing is arranged in rows by size so everything is really easy to find. The majority of clothing is in very good condition and appeared clean. We found winter coats, jackets, sweaters, beanies, jeans, pajama sets, long sleeved T-shirt's, corduroy pants, snow boots and Disney princess shoes. Many of the items we found had the original tags on them as well. If anyone is looking for rain boots, books, tap dancing shoes, Halloween costumes, masks, hair bows, newborn carriers, strollers and some toys, you will most likely find what you are looking for. As far as selling items, it was a fairly simple process. Fill out a short form, they give you an offering price, you either accept or decline. I sold them one item, an infant white Christening/baptism dress in it's original packaging, tags, never worn, original price I recall was $70, I was offered $7. I accepted but I can see how people would rather not go through the trouble of selling items for very little in return. As far as the pandemic goes, the store is clean, bathroom with baby changing table appears clean, staff and customers wear masks, hand sanitizer is provided and they have the pens separated into "used" & "sanitized " to prevent the spread of germs/ viruses. I came here one day to get some newborn essentials. I only picked up 3 sleepers and it came out to $11 . Doesn't seem bad but I could go to target and buy a very nice BRAND NEW pack of 3 sleepers for a dollar more . There was a swing there I was also looking at that didn't have a tag . It was $90 ! I couldn't believe they were trying to sell a second hand swing for $90 . . There's a few things worth buying there like play shoes and baby onesies . Other than that this place is extremely overpriced . Might as well just buy your clothes brand new . read more

Do Not Waste Your Time. If you're looking to make a few bucks and sell all those baby clothes hanging out at your house, just have a garage sale, believe me you're better off. After you pack everything up, put it in the car, waste your gas driving out there and lug your 25lbs of GOOD clothing in there, they will reject 99.9% of the clothing (except for that ONE boutique item you spent $30 on) and give you like $1 if you're lucky. And I am not exagerrating in the least. This place is an absolute joke and unless you're selling items that still have tags on them, don't even bother. They will probably reject those too. And honestly, the clothing on the racks is still a bit pricey for being SECONDHAND. So again, DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. read more

I came here with clean clothes, all washed some even brand new. Lady claims after 5mins that there is an odor coming from the clothes which is impossible. Even had Nike sneakers in the basket they didn't even look at. They are a waste of time & their selection is trash! Customer service is terrible as well! First time visiting and selling at OUAC. I was iffy on going after I read the reviews but I did not experience any rudeness from the staff; they were friendly. There was only one rude person but she was a customer. I do wonder how the items kept and turned down are determined... some of the items turned down were bought within the last year, never worn but didn't have tags. It's fine because I was going to donate the items anyway. Just curious. The store is a bit cramped and smells like a strong floral air freshener (better than what it could smell like). I came here hoping to find some soccer clothes and accessories for my 5 year old. I was a bit disappointed. Yes, they had a ton of shorts and shirts but at the average of $6-8 a piece, I really didn't think I was getting much of a deal since these clothes were gently used. I did not find any athletic shorts. They had a good selection of boys' shoes but nothing I HAD to have. At the front of the store, they had a great selection of books. I purchased a couple for my little one. The cashier was not beyond friendly. The usual hello was given and nothing more. The staff there are rude they only look at you and don't say hello welcome in and I took q basket full of clothes they only took and 4 items and they were all carters brand but they don't take off brand on top of that they pay you so little for what you pay for that clothes and some of it is already looking like used not even new and they still decide to get the brand clothes never coming her again rather just give it away. read more

Busy...recently opened. I am thrilled to have a location closer to home. I didn't get to peak at all the things they offer, but the set-up is pretty much the same as the Virginia Beach location (which I love)! I did see one guy working in the store which was different. Nevertheless, they offer gently used items...pretty much anything baby/child. The sizes range from newborn to pre-teen. Items are priced fairly well. But some of the items, I have to give a side-eye too...the store buys items from people who wish to sell children's: clothes, shoes, furniture, books, strollers, cribs, belts, sunglasses, but nothing handmade. In return you will receive cash or store credit. Now, I pride myself in shopping for my 7yr old. So items I bring in are in tip top shape and the pay out is definitely reasonable. However, when I browse at some of the articles of clothing they accepted...I look in disbelief. Then I see the price tag (they sell it for) I'm like...sheeeeesh!! But anyway. The store is definitely worth checking out. My selling experience...I dropped off clothes and shoes around 7:20pm and they advised they wouldn't be able to give me a quote until the next day since they closed at 8pm and had others ahead of me. It was cool. But to my surprise they called me about 8:15pm to advise a quote was ready and that I could come in tomorrow at any time to receive it. I thought this was a warm gesture. I just knew I would have to call and check on them. But I was proven wrong! Way to go yal!! But do visit and have fun :) read more

Don't waste your time selling. This place is so inconsistent. I bought a dress there. Tried to sell it back a few weeks later. It looked brand new. They passed. Most of the clothes they sell look over used and when you bring new things in, they pass. The Virginia Beach one is much better. The girl in Chesapeake, I think her name is Sylvia, passed on a whole bag of clothes. Virginia Beach bought half of those same clothes. Consistently terrible experience. read more

This place is great!!! I had no idea such a place existed until recently. I visited this location briefly, but it seems like they have a great selection and at good prices too. I don't care for the layout of this place compared to the va beach location, but otherwise was a good experience. It's so nice having a second hand store that doesn't STINK of old used clothes. I shop here frequently to fill the gaps in my two daughters wardrobe. We are blessed with hand me down clothing from several people, but often specific things like holiday outfits or special occasion dresses don't match their sizes for the season so we shop here instead. We always find something we are looking for, even the most specific things! For example we threw an Oh Twodles birthday part for our older daughter and found the perfect Minnie Mouse shirt and shorts for her to wear. We also bought the softest bunting for our newborn in the winter, and the shoe selection is amazing. We paid a teeny amount for like new Nike toddler shoes! For the most part I understand that they have a lot of clothes to constantly go through. But I shouldn't bring in a bin of nicely folded clothes for them just to dump the whole box out and then throw it back in piece by piece. If I go to the effort of putting things in nicely I would expect him to come back the same way. I also was the second person to drop off once the doors opened. I was asked if I was going to stay or leave and I had the assumption that I'll be able to run my errands and come back within two hours to be done since I was second in line. I came back in two hours and they hadn't even touched it because they took all of in-store priority first. They asked of I was back for good and that they would now start my basket. So I stood for additional 30 minutes at the front waiting for them to go though my clothes. I had a positive experience when coming to this location. Pryor to coming here I had never shopped nor sold with an OUAC location. I was greeted when I walked in and was given the whole rundown on how things worked. Sales associate was friendly. I sold a great deal of clothes, a handful of new items and a few pairs of shoes. All in EUC. I was given a good amount. Far less than I paid of course but one thing people need to understand is the business HAS to make money. They pay rent, utility's, wages, taxes etc. so you're NOT going to get even close to retail value nor what you paid. I shopped around and I thought their prices were pretty pair. A tad more than garage sales but again overhead applies. All in all I will sell and shop here again. When I arrived I saw people walking out with bags of clothes. I thought wow maybe the reviews were wrong. But I should have taken them to heart. Don't waste your time! This is a big store with a huge variety, but their prices are SO high for being a second hand store. Most of the prices weren't far from what I could purchase the clothes brand new. I read reviews about how picky the shop is about buying but I don't understand why I saw a lot of clothes with a lot of wear. Also the staff is kind of snooty. I brought in two baskets of clothes and waited thirty mins for them to tell me that they couldn't take any of it because "it didn't smell freshly laundered" however I literally just washed them! I don't use harsh smelling or extreme smelling wash because my family has sensitive skin so I went back home and washed it AGAIN so we will see if they take it now. But on top of that, the baskets didn't even look like they had been gone through at all so how can you tell if they were or not... very frustrating and disappointing since I've sold here many times and never had this issue until yesterday! read more

Went here today for the first time and sold some toys. I actually got a few dollars more than I thought I would! I also ended up shopping for summer clothes for my kids and found quite a few things. Other reviews seem angry that the business is too picky when buying back, but honestly I appreciate them being selective. The clothes were cleaner and in better condition than other places. And the styles they offered were definitely more on trend then you find at other consignment shops. Huge selection to go through. Wished I had more time to stay longer and look through more. Do not come here if you are trying to sell well taken care of toys and clothes because it is all on the discretion of if whom ever is checking out your products thanks they are a "cool" style. I had a young girl probably early 20s help me out and out of about 150 items I think they took seven of them. They tried to offer me $4.50 for a excellent condition learning chair, and tried to tell me that a pair of shoes that my daughter wore one time were too dirty yet while looking through their shoe bins some of those shoes I wouldn't expect to see in the nastiest of goodwills. Other items also brand new like cute little skirts I was told they don't take those styles anymore well if you don't take those styles then you should go ahead and put that on your website has a list of the styles that you don't take and save people a 40 minute drive to your store. This place is an absolute joke, they definitely give new hires an excuse manual to memorize. I just think it's appalling, if you want to call yourself a high-end secondhand store you should sell high-end secondhand items everyone's taste is different it doesn't matter what the specific person viewing your items thanks. In retrospect I wish I would've taken some pictures of items they already had in the store to compare but at the end of this whole experience the only thing that really matters is I will not be going back there I will not be recommending them and hopefully all of my friends family and people who read this will heed the same advice. read more

Visited this location to sell. I brought in 4 LARGE diaper boxes of gently used clothes in range from 0-6 months, 6-9 months, 9-12 months and 12+ months. I dropped off and left; they texted me within 30 minutes and said my items were ready. They bought some but hardly any. I don't even think they went through all the boxes because they looked exactly the same as when I packed them. Very disappointed because there were A LOT of one use outfits still in perfect condition. My trust and honesty was lost and they give the same "We passed on your items because..." when I don't believe they even looked through them all. I would not recommend selling to them. Reasons why Ounce Upon a Child is not worth it to me anymore. The person in charge always has an attitude. Seriously, yall opened at 12 (it was 12:26). What could be that wrong already? They're policies are garbage. They buy your nice clothing for a dollar and then sell it for a crazy profit. If I sit in my car its leaving the store so I would have to wait two hours. If I stay hostage my wait is 30 minutes. I've already been waiting 30 minutes...do you think they have even touched my stuff yet? NO! My response to the Owner: You are one of the main ones with the attitude. Being the owner, I understand why the staff act the way they do. They are following your lead. You treat the people that are selling to you like they owe you and your store something because you are a providing the option to buy. And to further explain the time. I was saying that if you open at 12 and its 12:26 how could you possibly have an attitude and you just opened? Just all around your customer service is poor. It's clear that a lot of your customers feel the same and you do nothing but justify you and your staff's actions. Plus running to the car for something or to sit in the car to make a phone call is leaving the store, so to me that's being held hostage. It's not like I am leaving the property. I understand how you call it "top priority to those who stay", but again that's treating the one's you buy from with a low priority. Lastly, I waited a total of 46 minutes that day. My son who is 3 and I had not had lunch yet and were going to eat the food I just purchased for him from Arby's on the drive in, in the car. Again, if I left to eat I would have to wait 2 hours. As a business owner myself, don't take complaints and always have a rebuttal. Take it in and care about your customers concerns and not get an attitude with them. 4 stars because I enjoy being able to reuse children's gear rather than buying from a big box store. However, prices for clothing are typically higher than what I'd like to spend on used clothes. I do occasionally find good deals and buy those. I have better luck with toys. But when I compare this to a Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. I like the organization of the clothes, the amount/variety; I know that I will be able to find the basics (shirts, sleepwear, pants/shorts). Selling here is not a quick process, I think due to demand of selling. Come prepared to wait or return. There is only one store in the immediate area, so the demand of selling is very high. read more

I called in advance to check and see if by chance they had any flower girl type dresses for a wedding. While I was on the phone with the lady she went directly to the dress section and began looking without my asking for anything specific. She excitedly announce yes we have one! All white, size 10 and its $8.50..I told her that was exactly what I needed and she told me it would be behind the counter when I got there! I usually do not experience such helpful positive attitude when calling business's. I was surprised and eager the entire 20 miles to get there. Once I got there I did not love that dress and the lady behind the counter came out from behind the counter and asked me a more detail and size possibilities she walked me around the store and helped me find the perfect dress I fell in love with for my daughter is went a size above what she normally wears but to my surprise when I got it home it fit her perfect! For $8.50 !!! Yes a flower girl dress for a wedding!! I'm so glad I called and made the trip it was completely worth it and the experience was great one! They stated they pasted on the items because of "staining, rips, snags", and items not selling well. How is that? These are brand new items. I immediately left there and went over to the Newport News location. They purchased EVERY item I brought in. So much for my "ripped and stained" new items. Newport News will always get my business. I'll never buy nor sell at the Chesapeake store. The employees are rude and come off a tad bit prejudice. I don't even think they go through your entire bin of items you bring in. Lazy...Oh well. Don't bother trying to sell them anything. They will tell you that your items aren't good enough because of wear and stains when in reality they are just overstocked. I wasted my time waiting 5 hours for them to tell me my container full of barely worn baby clothes were worth &3.50! Ridiculous! Oh and 90% of the clothes I tried to sell them were previously purchased from their store a few months ago! I would rather give the clothes to Goodwill. I like shopping here but the owner and the buy back policy are ridiculous. I had quite a few brand new/like new items they didn't buy-which is fine. But I did talk to the owner so I knew why they were not purchased. She claimed in size 0-3m they buy sets. Well that's funny bc "sets" are rare to find in the store. Leggings with a white heart outline print-won't buy bc printed. So I asked about the solid pants I had -she just shrugged. I asked about Onesies and she said that's more of a shirt bc it has a button on it ---umm it snapped at the bottom It's a onesie. I took 10 boxes of clothes here today all freshly laundered and organized in boxes. They only took a couple of items because of items being "wrinkled"and "faded". I went thru each item myself before putting it in the box and did not send any items like that. But anyways, that is perfectly understandable if the store was not selling items like that already. That's right, my husband found tons of items on the racks exactly like what they denied us for. Also they said they do not take Gerber brands, and I had a lot of Gerber. No, I did not. The only thing Gerber I had was a couple of onesies. In my opinion I do not think they went thru all the boxes. What a joke and waste of my time. Poor selection of clothes and a very rude staff. I had a better experience at the one on Upton Dr. where the selection was great and the staff was friendly. Since the two stores are under the same management, I would have expected them to be held to the same standards. Mostly for the staff as they can only sell what they have brought in so having a poor selection isn't something that can really be controlled.
