This did make it more expensive, but for us it was worth it...We have been able to feed many giraffes, but never have met a rhino up close and my grandson loved being able to brush them and touch them.. I chose the private tour , so I could relax and enjoy it without having to drive...and all the info Tucson gave us on all the animals and all their programs made the drive back through on our own a lot more interesting. I was very impressed with their setup and how many babies they have.. I would recommend getting their early...The tour was a wednesday at 930 and we only had one other car on the road with us....when I drove back through , there was a lot of car stoppage , cause of course every car wants to stop for every group of animals and I will say the group at the entrance gate holds you for ranson so you better have food for them so you can get thru.. Didn't try the food , but the fudge at the restaurant was really good. The only thing I was disappointed in was the avairy...If you just want to see a lot of beautiful budgies and a few chickens, then go for it, but they had no interest in the food sticks and just flew away from it for the most part...We are used to the lorikeets that land on you, so my grandson was just bored with it...

First, I was a tad disappointed in the quantity of the animals out there. There were long stretches of the drive where I caught myself thinking, " there's nothing out here". Second, don't bother buying feed. A lot of the animals were more interested in food provided in their troughs than the passing vehicles. And, I have a feeling they're fed well enough ...they don't care if you're throwing food. Third, cars tend to bottleneck to look at NOTHING. I think the staff should do a better job explaining you can pass. At least I hope you can, because I did. I wasn't waiting for some of these people. Other than that, I thought the facilities themselves were clean, well lit, and impressive. They've got a great restaurant where you can have lunch (although I felt the prices were exorbitant as they often are with these "tourist traps"). They've got some great exhibits with monkeys and you can get pretty darn close to some giraffes. My little girl had a particularly good time in the aviary. Seeing her face as that bird landed on her stick was just the best. Solid gift shop. Overall, felt the cost was higher than necessary, but solid family outing. It's worth going.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO (Your Guide for your next SAZoo Train Ride!)…read more Safety First: The train engineers, like Six Flags ride operators, are certified by International Ride Training (IRT) through their International Ride Operators Certification (iROC) program. This dictates their load and go time, safety zones, and other operating procedures. Hours: They follow the Zoo's operating hours. Normally, this is 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. However events like Zoo Boo and Zoo Lights have different hours of operation. (Ex: 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. or 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.) Zoo Boo is usually mid September through October 31. Zoo Lights is usually mid November through early January. The trains: There are 2 trains. The Union Pacific 210 and the C.W.T. Express Safety Runs happen before opening the train. Sometimes they take longer which can cause delays. Please be patient with staff. The route: No, this does not go into the Zoo. It's owned by the Zoo. It goes around Brackenridge Park on an almost 2 mile loop. Would it be cool to have in the zoo? Sure, but then that would mean Zoo admission ON TOP of train ticket cost. During Zoo Lights and Zoo Boo, the route is NOT lit up at night. It is a public park and it would be pretty impossible to ensure any decorations wouldn't be tampered with by people in the park. Again, plan accordingly; It's dark. It's a public park. Since this is in a public park, the train can encounter fallen trees, branches or other hazards on or near the track that can hinder operation at any time. This is not highlighted on the zoo's website. Tickets: $6/person. 2 and under are free! Tickets can be purchased at https://sazoo.org/experiences/explore/zoo-train/ and in the train depot. There is an annual train membership available, $25/person, to enjoy unlimited train rides all year long! Tickets are valid for one loop around the park. Two stops: Witte Museum train tickets can be purchased here, passengers can wait at the stop around corner for the train. Japanese Tea Garden, the train stop across the street. There used to be a second stop off of Mulberry st. for the Doseum, however it has been removed from the route since August 2025. If you get on at a train stop, and want to return to that stop, you have to head back to the Train Depot (via train after showing your valid ticket), depart and go to the back of the line with your ticket to head back to the stop. Again, part of their safety procedures. Weather: The train can be closed due to weather. If the train is already on the tracks, it will make NO stops and go back to the Train Depot. This can be due to inclement weather, usually lightning in the area... Since this is a big piece of moving metal, it's best that it gets back to shelter promptly and safely. After 5p.m. the train will NOT make stops, plan accordingly. Once you're at the depot you have to go to back of line to ride again, it's part of their iROC safety procedures. During Zoo Boo and Zoo Lights, the train doesn't make stops. Instead, there is holiday music and no spiel (tour). It's important to remember that this is a machine and can have unpredictable mechanical or technical difficulties. This can happen at any time. Have fun! Be safe! Be patient!

Maybe it's because we were one of the last train rides. We went around 4:30 pm. My daughter stood up because she wanted to sit with her brother in the cart in front of us. This man that worked there told her to sit down, he didn't scream but he spoke to her pretty loudly. I get that they are tired and want to end the day and go home. Maybe they should work somewhere else and not around children.

Overall it was a cute experience for the kids. They enjoyed it, especially seeing the stingrays and the small sharks up close. There was a nice variety of fish and sea life to look at, and enough unique exhibits to keep things interesting as you walk through. One thing to note is that it can get quite pricey once you start buying food for all the animal feeding stations, which are purchased in very small portions at each station using pre purchased tokens. That adds up quickly. They also have a small arcade area and spots where you can grab quick food and snacks, but nothing impressive. The aquarium itself is on the smaller side for the price you pay for the visit, and you get through the whole thing fairly quickly. I didn't find the aquarium really engaging and exciting and the value wasn't worth it. For that reason, it is probably not a place I would return to on my own, but I would go back if my kids asked to. For that reason, I would give this place 3 stars because it felt like we got through everything so quickly, and the price of the tickets didn't feel worth the value.

More than half of what they have has nothing to do with an aquarium. I mean I love some baby goats but come on! The conditions they have these animals in is unacceptable and I do not know how they have not been closed down. I was sick to my stomach before I got half way through. A complete waste of $25. I was thirsty and didn't even want to buy anything there to give them any more support. I don't know how people can work there seeing this. I was at the sting ray pool and I swear if he could talk he'd ask to be saved. A worker walked by and thought it was cool to tell us he had 5 of his own at home. WHAT?! I finished walking through quickly to just get to the exit. The only thing I can think of is that this is a front for illegal activity. After leaving and doing a quick google search, they have had several lawsuits that they have not taken accountability for. These owners are disgraceful. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE! Is it worth the drive?...HELL NO!

I have been coming here since the mid 80s, and feel little has changed aside from revamping old into new exhibits. The gorillas are back from an absence of I forgot how long. The aquarium needs a facelift, as well as the reptile house. I avoid eating here since it is worse than high school cafeteria fare. Prices could be better adjusted to the income of the populace to at least enjoy some of the fantastic rare creatures they house. I still will come though for I do like seeing one of the only zoos' that has a pair of Tomistoma schlegelii and an Orinoco crocodile. Bring back the mini boat ride!

It's been around since the 1920's and my friend whose daughter's birthday we went to said her AND her Mom had been there before! 2 generations! That was fascinating to me!
