Over my 45 years of investing, first via company managed 401K's, then by "retail" financial "advisors" of my choosing I reached out to Charles Zhang about 4 yrs. ago. After an initial call with Charles and his wife Lynn Chen-Zhang, they agreed to take us on as clients. Their team offers an outstanding balanced and complex understanding of the financial market's, strategizing of our personal goals and financial position and most of all a very empathetic, personal and introspective interaction with both my wife and myself. I swear, my wife and I turn to each other after every quarterly account review in disbelief at how incredibly fortunate we are to have their good and active counsel with our life nest egg. What a team! Thank you All! Charles Zhang has been ranked #1 in the nation on Barron's list of America's Top 100 Independent Wealth Advisors for 2024. This is the third year that he has been ranked #1; he previously received the distinction in 2023 and 2021*. He is currently the highest-ranking NAPFA-Registered Fee-Only Financial Advisor on the list.*. And has been named the #1 Financial Advisor in Michigan by Barron's for the past 13 consecutive years beginning in 2013 through 2025.* Lynn Chen-Zhang has been recognized as one of the nation's Top 100 Women Financial Advisors and #1 Female Financial Advisor in Michigan in 2014*.

Besides having a set fee withdrawn quarterly, they use the Schwab platform and their well diversified investments outperform all their benchmarks. I don't know how to even begin to describe my disappointment and devastating financial situation…read morethat I have been put in after hiring a "financial advisor" after my divorce. I had met with Shane Hemphill of Trifound/Vertis in 2022. Jokingly I asked when I could retire which his reply was, anytime. After much paper work and lists of monthly living expenses, assets, bank accounts etc. he arrived at a monthly disbursement amt. I sold my home, let my job and moved east near my family with Shane' encouragement that he could make my money work wherever I want to live. This was the 2nd of many statements that Shane had told me that ended up being very false. At the beginning meetings I was told there was no fee for the services because he has so many high profile cases he doesn't have to take money from little accounts. After all of money in his hands I was then I was paying 9% of the accounts he manages. Which of course is there are multiple. I worked with people that went to Shane and did not check into his credentials until after he had all of my 401K and Brokerage from the sale of my home in his control. If I had I would have found that he has no formal education to be advising of financial growth. I did leave my job at 62 and thought I was fine with the budget of money that was coming from my investments. I assumed that this was the amount I would be getting monthly indefinitely and I could plan my future with this amt. I was in the process of looking for a new home and in applying for a loan it was discovered that all of my money was put in 10 IRA's with the acceptation of the amt. that was set aside for me to live on. After going thru that amt. set By Shane, he then decided to start dipping into my brokerage account for monthly dispersants. ( I did not give prior consent, nor agree to this!!) This money was to go towards the downpayment on a new home.) I expressed my concerns of my investment's growth and my financial future many times to Shane and was always told, you are fine stop worrying. I was MORTIFIED! Several Brokers, fiduciaries, and financial advisors were looking at my accounts that Shane set up and what he invested me in to give their opinion. With no $ growth for 3 years and basically living off disbursements of a "savings account", I DO HAVE to go back work full, give up my apartment and live with family until I can reinvest my money AND see some kind of growth and save money from work until I am 70. (had I kept on the same course with Shane I would have been bankrupt at 71, just like Trifound) Be very careful signing up with a someone that calls themselves financial advisors. A business degree does not qualify for you to represent someone as a financial advisor !!! It should be against the law for these kind of people to misrepresent you to fatten their own pocket and send you to financial despair. Hard lesson learned on my part. I have faith I will be ok and thank God I got Vertis and Shane Hemphill's hands off from my money when I did!

Great location, easy parking, friendly staff, and Paul will greet you with smile. If you invest…read moreenough, you'll get a holiday card and a party every so often. Paul Carlson and his staff are sincere with their intentions, but Ameriprise fails to deliver on your investment in all areas - less then expected returns, fees, charges, and riders will literally wipe out expected gains. Example of this was contract language stating that returns are based on "Market Rates". Sounds great when the 2024 returns for the S&P 500 was 23%, NASDAQ at 29%, and the Dow Jones at 13%. So why did my investment only return 5% in 2024? Because Ameriprise's "market rate" is calculated differently and shame on me for making assumptions. You want to get out of a fund or a contract? Get ready to be surprised with charges and fees to do that. To their credit, it probably was in the 15 page legal document I had to sign. Hard to read Lawyer Language with my working class mind. Paul and staff simplified the lingo with nice words and working class language, but in the end, surprise surprise! Ameriprise - at this location and many others - is NOT a Fiduciary! Look that word up and only invest with people that are. Ameriprise people are Sales people and their commissions are their motivation to sell you a product that sounds good until you start using it. Again, Do not use Ameriprise! Go with better Fiduciary based investment companies like Zhang Financial, Charles Schwab, Blackrock, and others. Be sure to ask for a Fiduciary to represent you in your quest for competent Wealth Management toward, and in, retirement!
