I don't even want to know what's in the "chicken sausage" because it had the consistency of tuna. I did, however, enjoy the shredded carrot and daikon even if the banh mi was far from authentic or even delicious. My friends also said the food wasn't that great, their rice bowl and curry was fresh but neither of their dishes were memorable.

Post-Hawaii update: I still think Pokelava's poke bowl slaps. The fish isn't quite as fresh as what…read moreyou'll find on the islands (because, well, geography), but it still satisfies the craving. And honestly? I love the toppings. Pokelava leans into the chaotic joy of "build-your-own," and sometimes I want that maximalist experience -- crispy onions, spicy mayo, seaweed salad, and every crunchy thing they'll let me pile on. It's like a flavor party where everyone's invited. But Hawaii poke taught me something: restraint. Simplicity. Respect for the fish. There, the bowls are quieter -- no sauce tsunami, no mountain of mix-ins -- just fresh ahi, a dash of shoyu, maybe a sprinkle of green onion. The kind of bowl that looks you in the eyes and says, "I don't need a crunchy topping to be beautiful." Still, Pokelava isn't trying to be Hawaii. It's playing its own game -- fast, convenient, and comfortingly consistent. After tasting the gold standard, I've come to appreciate Pokelava not for what it lacks, but for what it unapologetically is: a solid, build-your-own poke spot that lets you be a little unhinged with your toppings and still get a good meal out of it. Would I fly across the Pacific for it? No. Will I still walk across the street for it? Absolutely. And if they keep giving me quarters for laundry? Lifelong loyalty, sealed.

I got a build your own bowl with zoodles and rice as my base. There are lots of protein options, all cut too small imo, but they were fairly generous with portions. I had the seared tuna and salmon. For mix ins I added cucumber, edamame, mango cabbage, and onion. I liked how they mixed everything together instead of just piling it on top. They also mix in the sauce which is great. I had the sesame ginger. For toppings you can choose three, and I opted for seaweed salad, kani salad, and corn. I also got nori strips and wasabi/ginger. Kani salad wasn't the best but other than that everything was fresh and tasty. Idk if I'd rush back but it was good! I would get it again. Bowl with two proteins was $13.50 before tax.

The space looks to be clean and in good condition. Nice comfortable seating, a view outside and a bit of art inside. This location has a pretty generous menu full of choices. Prices seem reasonable for what you get. I ordered an Avocado salad, miso soup, and the dancing roll from the sushi menu. Everything seemed fresh, tasty and crisp. Servers were friendly and brought my lunch and utensils to my table. As far as improvements I guess I would say that the servers could be more attentive after you received your food at the table. It's a lot more "fast food" than a traditional sushi restaurant. In addition I'd say the seating is an inch and a half to two inches to short in the booths. ( which is a bit awkward feeling. ) Luke the table is to tall and your shoveling good instead of seeing it. I would definitely come here again for a lunch.

We had skipped lunch after a larger, late breakfast and had explored some local waterfalls, walked around Cornell and Ithaca Commons, and were starving and in need of a nice respite for an hour. We came in and were seated at a nice, quiet booth and reviewed the menu. My friend went with the mushroom burger and fries while I went with the Harissa Corn Salad and the Pretzel Chicken Tenders. Both were wonderful and large portions. The Harissa Corn Salad was like top 3 salads I've ever had in my life! HUGE portion and loaded with fresh items - loved the dressing and the sun-dried tomatoes with crunchy chickpeas. Noms! I could not stop eating it and I still had a ton left on my plate. Our server was OK - nice enough - but very inattentive and, after we got our food, essentially ignored us. When it came time to pay, it took over 25 minutes for him to bring our check and run the card. I was pissed. Great food, great menu, need to make sure to close properly.
