I had not been to Fidencio's Mexican Food for around eight years so I thought it was time for an…read moreupdate. Things to know: This is a fast food style restaurant where you order at the counter and retrieve your tray of food when it's ready. The restaurant is housed in a former fast food building where the dining is not the most comfortable and can seem really crowded when it's busy. Third, the place is well lighted and clean. The food prep is generally quick...my meal today took about eight minutes. Fifth, the woman working the front was very pleasant. Sixth, there was no loud Mexican music. It was fairly quiet in there. Seventh, this is pretty much a bistro that serves traditional Mexican food...nothing too exotic and not much that could be described as New Mex. Eighth, prices are middle of the road, but you do get a lot of food for your money. Overall, I found the restaurant exactly as it was eight years ago, except that the food seemed to be better, a bit of an upgrade. Today I ordered the carne asada burrito and the carne adobada burrito. They came with a bottle of salsa verde which was mostly liquid and somewhat weak in flavor. Rate the salsa a "C." It didn't do much for the burritos. The burritos came wrapped in paper. They were encased in a thick, quality tortilla. They were heavy as they were filled with a lot of meat...a lot of meat! A lot of meat for the money. The carne asada was diced and had a bit of tomato and onion, and cilantro with it. It did not have a great asada flavor but it was pretty good, if a tad dry. Rate it a "B+." The carne adobada meat was also diced small and it was very flavorful with good extras in there. Rate the adobada burrito an "A-." Very enjoyable burrito. All-in-all, I came away impressed with the quality of food and the efficient service. Overall, for a casual dining experience in a fast food style set up this was an enjoyable meal. I must raise my prior eight year old rating up to THREE AND THREE QUARTER STARS...meaning above average for the total dining experience. The food makes up for the lack of comfort.

Only drawback for us was that everything was served on Styrofoam. I assume that a majority of their business is ordering carry out or the drive through ordering type of business, therefore the plastic dining ware makes more sense. Service was excellent.

My wife ordered a combination but they accidently sent some kind of taco meat that was really delicious also. It might have been deshebrada or something like that. They refunded the charge for the combination plate so we ended up with some free taco meat. I really wanted to try those enchiladas so I'll just have to order them again next time and hope we get it. The rolled tacos were skinny little bland toothpicks and the menu said it came with beans and rice. I didn't get any beans or rice. The fish tacos were just plain nasty. It tasted like they used some cheap frozen fried fish from a dollar store. Either that or the fish was old because that was stinky off-putting fish. I took one bite and tossed those in the trash. I'll NEVER go to Miguel's again and I can't recommend their food to anyone unless you like eating out of a trash bin or something. Horrible.
