I recently took the MSF Basic Riding Course for motorcycles with On the Road Again School at the Queensboro College campus. The instructors were well prepared, knowledgeable and personable. Each lesson was explained by the book, then demonstrated, then simulated by the class on still bikes, then put into practice in motion. While training a class of 11 people, the instructors were able to give individual attention to how each student was handling the lesson, executing the exercise and able to handle the bike. Constructive criticism was usually served with a smile & friendly comment, and praise was always given. Just completed the MSF with these guys and it couldn't have been a better experience. I went from literally never having touched a motorcycle to being mildly competent after the 2 full days of learning. The instructors Tom and Omar were really good - the right mix of funny, patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. I didn't even know how to properly strap my helmet when I first walked into the class and I didn't have to ask. This is definitely a class for absolute beginners and it makes newbies feel comfortable asking questions and learning the skills necessary to ride safely. Depending on your class size, you might end up going through some of the exercises a little on the faster side and the bike you get will definitely make a difference. None of them seemed too terrible but some are better than others. They do a pretty comprehensive skill review before the actual exam portion and they are very fair with the grading. read more

Highly recommend the Basic Rider Course for beginners. Omar and Patty were incredibly skilled, insightful, and patient instructors who genuinely cared about the education and absorption of information for each of their students. They were not only extremely professional, they were also a lot of fun and kept things light and enjoyable. This was all during which the weather was sweltering, so even more kudos to them. If it's any indication, all 12 of 12 students in our/their class passed the skills examination class for road test exemption. terrible instructor: 2 days of being constantly yelled at, instructor was more like a drill sergeant. the training bike was dysfunctional. Even the instructor could not get the gears to change. some components of the skills test were physically impossible like making a 45 degree turn in a space of 2 feet without going outside the line. Again, the instructor was not even able to do it. So I did not pass my final skills test and never got a second chance to take it again like advertised. read more

I absolutely recommend this place! The process if signing up was easy and quick. The instructor Chuck was especially commendable. He is absolutely hilarious and give you personal feedback so you can safely and successfully pass the road test at the end of the weekend. The range exercises are well thought out and allows smooth transitions throughout. I highly recommend this course to anyone considering buying a motorcycle. They provide you with a motorcycle to ride for the class and the groups are small so it has a personal feel. The instructors are helpful and very friendly. They take the time to show you how to ride properly and safely. It's a very low pressure environment and that makes the testing more comfortable too. When you've completed the course (assuming you pass) you don't need to road test with the DMV and licensing is a breeze. read more

My wife and I took two private lessons with Tom and two group lessons with Tom as the managing instructor. We found the class to be effective and instructive, but also fun. Tom had the right mix of patience, laughter and seriousness, highlighting both the fun of the sport while underscoring the need for care and safety. We both passed our skills test on the last day of our group class and are going to continue to take classes with OTRA to continue to improve . These guys are true professionals and really care that the students achieve a level of proficiency by the end of the course, no matter if, like us, you never were on a motorcycle before. Don't fail on your last day skill test, you have one chance to retest, your next schedule might take up a year or pay again for the full course will start over right away, when you call the office , no one pick up your call ,never. once you email them it takes them few day to answer or email. bad bad bad services. read more

Arrogant instructors, with bully type of personality, do not recommend this school, and btw, in case anything goes wrong, you will not be getting refund or any sort of credit, they will actually look for any reason to send you home, and will keep your money. Me and my wife took the course Paid a lot of money my wife passed the written test I failed by two questions we both passed our permit course then took the driving course and also both of us at past with this being said this place still will not give me my paperwork for me to go and get my full license. If I didn't even pay the money I'll take the course by me passing my permit test and also the driving course I would've already received my license. now I have to go through this whole process again and spend more money this place was a waste of time and money !! read more

Took the BRC2 recently. Really just took it to get the license waiver. It went by quickly. There was a nice pace to the entire skills practice. The instructors are really nice and knowledgeable. Our group had Patty teaching us. Did a great job. Great way to skip the DMV test and brush up on some low speed manuevers. read more

I took the basic rider course and I was only able to complete half the course. The first class was fine but the next morning there was a different set of instructors. The instructor said, "We don't have another bike for you." There was a bike on the campus that morning. I asked for a partial refund or to reschedule so I could complete the course. They could not reschedule a course because they said the season was over and no one replied about the refund. Also the basic rider course is restricted to campus they do not take you on the road. If you're serious about riding take a course from a professional that actually cares. The only real thing I took from this was a word of advice from the instructor, "Its either a riding day, or a drinking day, not both." read more

I couldn't be happier with this course and its instructor. I had only sat on a motorcycle twice before (as a passenger) and was nervous about registering in a course that expected me to pass a road test by the end. I imagine it's not for everyone (goodness knows, many of us were nervous when test-time came around) but even before the test, we all said that we'd be glad to have taken the course even if we didn't pass their waiver test because of the incredible amount of progress we'd made and knowledge we'd absorbed in so little time. The teaching is intimate, quick-paced but patient, and builds sequentially to help even absolute beginners like myself go from no experience to passing the exam. Everyone in our group passed the test and move forward with skills to build on. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to begin their riding experience. You'll surely be a safer, smarter rider for it. Completely worth the money and time! read more

Excellent course. I highly recommend taking this course if you are looking to learn to ride or are going for you motorcycle license. The instructors were are really good and took the time to show you what you did wrong or right. At the end of the course you have to take a road test. The instructors can't help you during the test but they give you enough knowledge and riding time during the class that it should be no problem passing the test. I highly recommend this course if you really want to learn proper riding. I may take a more advance one to improve my skills even more.m read more
