This sculpture is located to the left of the UIndy Fine Arts Center, along Hannah Ave. It is part of UIndy's Sculpture Walk, sponsored by Fifth Thirds Bank. You are able to pull up a map of the 20 plus sculptures online and make a day of visiting each piece.
There is a small placard on the ground next to the sculpture but it is weathered and all the information is wiped clean. It is just a blank placard now.
This piece reminds me of a section of rollercoaster. This 22 feet long and 5 feet wide bronze and stainless steel sculpture is the work of Garry Bibbs. This is his signature style. It was dedicated in 2013. It closely resembles Bibbs' Humanity Roll at the University of Kentucky.
This is a busy abstract piece that somehow works for me. I cannot even start to describe it, but it is an attention getter and very interesting. All I can say is that I see a stainless ball with something in in that looks like it rolled of the end of a track. Like I said, there is a lot going on.
Being that the sculpture is located just out front of the UIndy campus there is a lot of parking available, however, most of it requires a parking permit. I just parked in an open spot, got out and took a closer look. I was not in the spot long.
As with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other wonderful pieces of public art on campus, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. As I previously mentioned, you could download the Art Walk map that is online and make a day of it. read more
