Best cinema ever!…read more Despite the fact that we have a cinema locally to where we live, the Movie House on the Dublin Road is the only cinema we go to. The cinema is in a good location in town with lots of on street parking available, or if it's busy, there is a multi story car park to the rear. If you fancy making a night of it, there are lots of restaurants in the area too. The cinema itself is over two floors, with food kiosks on both, and a coffee bar on the first floor, in case you arrive super early for the film, like we always seem to! There is a good selection of food available: Nachos (My favourite) with lots of cheese sauce and salsa, hotdogs, ice-cream, bags of sweets, crisps, and pick-n-mix. The screens are spacious and the seats are comfortable, what more could you ask for!

There's local bars and restaurants you can grab a bite from before you catch a movie. Parking across the road (free after 9pm) - literally a 30 second walk from the door. Simple booking process - you can book tickets online and use the self service ticket machine, definitely do this at weekend and peak times as it will save you a lot of time queuing. Cheap - £6.50 per ticket with student and OAP discounts Cons; Unreserved seating which makes it a bit of a free for all and means you should turn up early of you want to get good seat. As mentioned queues let this place down - it may be due to its popularity but you need to make sure you arrive at least 15 minutes before your screening time if you want to get snacks.

If he says so - I couldn't determine any real Belfast accents nor much of the cynical humour Belfastians are known for. I do wish I was as thin (well maybe not that thin) as the script but the cinema photography was superb as was the sound. It's a bug bear of mine too when the use English actors to play Irish roles when we have enough home grown talent but I expect Mr Branagh has his circle of luvvies. The pleasant cinema staff told us to wait a tad as cinema 7 was being covid cleaned. The cinema was cosy warm and not at all busy. As the Omniplex group rip us off with outrageous prices for ice cream, popcorn, sweets and drinks we brought our own supplies. It was £17 for two to indulge Mr Branagh and to satisfy our curiosity at this Oscar nominated work and for that we got a very comfortable reclining chair in which we lay well toward horizontal in a warm dark comfy theatre. The experience is worth it for the seating alone.

Today I held a private screening of Night at the museum 3, for my son and 14 other children and the staff were unbelievable. You might be reading this thinking "Private screening bet that cost a fortune!" If this thought is scrolling around your mind, it is very wrong. For £5.50 per child, we were given our own screen and each of the kids got a small popcorn and a drink! With accompanying adults going free! Those of you unfortunate enough to have to book and pay for a kids party will know that is good value, and I really can't understand why they don't advertise this. Anyway, before the show started the team advised me that I could have the screen for another half hour after the show had ended to sing the obligatory rendition of happy birthday and even bring food in! What a great party the kids had and in such a great setting which really added to the occasion. The massive benefit of having the staff handle clean up, really meant a stress free time and a very enjoyable day. PS Ben Stiller needs to stop doing those films now.

There is a restaurant right beside here which is handy if you fancy a meal before or after. Nice cinema which is handy, quiet and not expensive.

Crazy Tuesdays are the best times to visit this cinema as the ticket prices are half price down from €8.00 to €4.00 or if your travelling from across the border in the UK the cinema will give the price in £ sterling in which case the ticket prices are down from £6.60 to £3.30 bearing in mind that you are also given a choice to pay in either € or £. I buy the Half Moon Combo for €5.00 or UK£4.30. The staff are very friendly and I have no problems except one. The popcorn may occasionally have just a few hard nuts inside so watch out and chew carefully otherwise you will crack a tooth but this cinema is otherwise a great place to visit. Might I add that the app is pretty handy to use as well and that I have no problems when using the app just to research movie times.

The venue is Execelsior cinema which is located at 29 Ballynichol Road, Comber, BT23 5NW. It holds up to 30 people and shows whatever film you like! Eoin had secretly sussed out what film she would like to watch over Christmas and she said "Edward Scissorhands"! So Edward it was! We all arrived early and set up our sweets, popcorn and drinks in anticipation of Clara's arrival. She was so shocked to discover us all sitting there in the cosy cinema, donning our best Christmas jumpers! The cinema is a class idea for a special occasion because it really is such a private venue for family and friends. I'm already trying to think of an occasion to get hiring it again!

One of my partner's favourite films is The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers and he'd mentioned how he would love to see it again on the big screen, so this was the obvious choice. They don't have a massive web presence, but I found the telephone number online and rang to speak to Roy, the proprietor, and we got booked in. We arrived on Saturday night and saw the cinema for the first time. Roy had taken the time to spell out Happy Birthday Craig on the billboard which added a fantastic personal touch. He invited us inside and showed us around. The cinema was done up in a 1950's style and looked unreal! There were lots of old movie pictures and figurines inside. The cinema seats up to 30 people - the seating is the traditional cinema style 'flip up seats, which were really comfortable. There is also a bathroom inside the cinema so you don't need to leave. Roy then started the movie and left us to enjoy it, there is a call bell in the foyer though if we had needed any assistance. You are allowed to bring in your own food and drink, including alcohol! All in all this was a fantastic experiece which I recommend far and wide!

It's the same truism for restaurants. I had the misfortune of eating in the fast food outlet here and it was very poor indeed. When I lifted a menu it was sticky with a dark tomato ketchup residue. The last time I found this lack of proper cleaning I was in a Nando's in Manchester. It's either carelessness or laziness. I then scanned the overhead display to buy the least offensive food and ended up with a kids chicken goujon meal, essentially breaded chicken & chips. It was under £4. The chips are 2 out of five and just poor. The chicken was zero out of 5 as it was just awful. Food hardly gets much cheaper than this factory-made rubbish. The meal came with a medium sized machine dispensed drink so I got Diet Coke. I also got an Americano that was alright so it is 3 out of 5. The saving grace was that they served Heinz tomato ketchup and proper HP sauce. Also the food portion was decent but I certainly didn't eat it all and the staff mega friendly. So overall it's only just a borderline 3 star as I'm in a good mood but I can say with confidence that I'll never eat in this place ever again.

There are usually a good variety of viewings on, and the advertisement posters on the wall outside display the movies on offer. There's lots of free parking outside, and a pizza hut nearby for food before or after your meal. This cinema also allows pre-bookings - very beneficial when you're walking past the large queue that has usually formed to buy tickets! The cinema is also in a good location, very near to the centre of town if you want to leave the kids to do some well deserved shopping.

As with most other cinemas, these tend to be higher than I (and I'm sure others), would want them to be. You can book in advance over the telephone or just turn up at show time. Pure greed ! The pick and mix sweets area is unhygienic , food and drink is expensive and the toilet facilities are also often unclean. Sadly Omniplex Dundonald will no longer be receiving my business.
