They had a lot of fun during the trial class, but they were nervous to start, not wanting to be away from Mom even though I was only three feet off the mat. Thankfully SIA instructors are not only skilled at keeping students engaged during training, but are very family centered, patient and caring. They were able to connect with each one of my kiddos so that they felt comfortable training as I looked on. By parent teacher conferences in February their preschool teacher let me know that both had grown so much in maturity and confidence and was curious to know what I was doing differently. Almost two years later the twins are well adjusted, focused and always happy when they step off the mat after an hour training session. Professor Henrique, Professor Lucas, Professor Matheus, Coach Queila, Coach Enrique, Coach Ian, Coach Ella, and Coach Anthony have become family and there is no other place I would have my children be twice a week. Ohana Warrior is a great gym, especially if you're looking for a legitimate and authentic place to…read morelearn real Muay Thai or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In the immediate area, most gyms teach some form of Traditional Martial Arts or a cardio-style kickboxing class, but Ohana is a little gem tucked away into a shopping center where great coaches teach awesome students effective and time-tested styles of fighting. The Muay Thai classes are excellent. Mona is an extremely fun and likable coach who is technically proficient and highly motivated to push her students to a higher level. The class itself is heavy on conditioning and fundamental techniques, so you can jump right in as a beginner and get a good education on Thai kickboxing, but you'll also be building strong muscles, a healthy heart, and washboard abs. There are a handful of higher-level fighters in the gym who compete routinely in smokers and tournaments, so if you're looking to compete in Muay Thai, Ohana is a good place to get quality coaching and hard work with reliable and considerate training partners. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program is good; however, nearly all of the students are white belts, and the coach is only a purple belt. If you're specifically looking for a good BJJ gym, this is a little bit of a hard sell in a city as big as Dallas. The coach Tye also trains at Cobra BJJ in Plano under Eddie Ricardo, and Tye is a great coach despite only being halfway to a black belt. The class centers around fundamental techniques, followed by a few rounds of sparring; it's a great place to pick up BJJ if you've never done any grappling before. The grapplers at Ohana also compete in local tournaments when they come up, so just like with Muay Thai, if you're looking for a gym to train and compete out of, Ohana has your back. Overall I rate the gym 5 out of 5 stars. The BJJ program does leave something to be desired, but everything else is wonderful. The coaches and students are a welcoming and positive group, and the name "Ohana" (meaning "family" in Hawaiian) truly lives up to its meaning. If you're looking to meet nice people and get a good workout, Ohana is a great place for that. If you're looking to learn how to fight to compete or defend yourself, Ohana is an excellent place for you as well.

On Monday they work on techniques and on Wednesday they get to spar each other for an hour. Teacher Mona is super friendly and approachable. Teacher Aris makes it really fun for the kids.
