Service staff was very friendly and attentive. The decor is also very interesting, lots to see around you - like a mix of 50s diner and Art nouveau style decor. So this is a highly recommended place if you're ever in Darmstadt. Great food, atmosphere, and service :) 4/5 but I take out one star because the menu/Speisekarte was very difficult to read. It took us so long just to figure out what to eat. Perhaps that's just part of the "café chaos" theme? Otherwise, everything about this place is great!!!

The offering was not enough for the amount of people who were there and after a short while most of the main meals were gone. All the sauces tasted of being made from powder from bags. The deserts tasted also very artificially and terrible. This is NOT COOKING and the prices the y charges are outrages . What I also hate is when restaurants put lots of really cheap booze on the counter of their bar. They have put about 30 bottles of cheap booze on the counter as decoration. Again an outrages price for the industrial food.

Much to my surprise I was extremely impressed with the place. Achtung - if you punch in the address in the GPS of your car it will take you to the wrong spot. Go to their website and follow the instructions as we got lost by ignoring the directions on the website. This place serves modern German cuisine and the menu was fabulous. I had the grilled watermelon with smoked tuna for entree and it was delicious and the flavours were so delicate and went together beautifully. For main course I had the mackerel filet with scampi and a saffron risotto and I could happily have licked my plate clean. It was tasty, full of flavour and delicate all at the same time. The wine list is extensive and we have a nice bottle of Sancere which went perfectly with the food. For dessert I had the dessert variation and the chocolate fondant was exquisite. The service here is good and the location is amazing next to a golf course and I could have spent a whole night there sitting outside and enjoying the wine and company. It's a bit out of the way but you won't be disappointed you made the journey. It's a beautiful location with fabulous food. It's not cheap but I have had more expensive dinners that have failed to impress like this this one :-)) everyone in our group of 5 loved their meals and we had all our plates go back with nothing left. The Zoo Bar is near the Stadtkirche and therefore at the border of the pedestrian area. Which is an…read moreadvantage in this case since it means that the people ending up there knew where they wanted to go and are most often very nice and relaxed. On the ground floor all the tables are aranged at the banks of windows, and you can actually sit on the window sill. Although it can make you feel like being in zoo ( - the name itself is derived from the fact that it once was a pet shop though - ) it doesn't mean that it isn't comfortable inside. Additionally, in the summertime you are able to sit outside. Going upstairs you won't only find aquariums, but also the smoking area with some nice lounge chairs. The restrooms are here as well. The selection of beverages is very good, you'll find more than the usual stuff. I like to go here for lunch. Their menu changes daily and can be found online on their website. German only I'm afraid. The food itself has a high standard, but is surprisingly cheap. They also offer something calles Hurtigessen during lunch hours, where you get the meal of the day and an espresso for 10 Euros. Unless it takes them more than 10 minutes to serve, then it's free of charge. They also offer brunch on Sundays, which is supposed to be very good. I haven't tried it yet, but I definitely will.
