They're under new ownership and I feel the quality is better. We've only gone for lunch but they do wonderful lunch specials-- two rolls with soup for around $13. You can also get poke bowls and sushi/sashimi specials for a good price. Their tuna has great flavor and they're really speedy, so you can't beat it for a quick bite. Once we were in and out for lunch in less than 30 minutes! It is now a regular lunch spot for us. I would definitely try them again for dinner. Good spot! They have a lot of variety of great Japanese and Asian food, including sushi burritos, which I haven't tried but I may have to next time because I'm so curious. We've been here a few times and we've gotten the sushi and the bulgogi and both were excellent. Very tasty and would definitely recommend. The portion sizes (for the price) we felt like were a little small, so that's the only reason I took a star off. The staff are great, our waitresses both times have been awesome and super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is modern and clean. They had a sign today saying they were new management. The worst Japanese restaurant I've ever been to, seriously. Unfriendly service, extremely overpriced, and the food quality and presentation was just laughable. I've enjoyed Kroger sushi more than this. Our bill came out to around ~150 after an order of nigiri, beer, and 4 rolls with an appetizer and the rolls were barely even edible, we left an entire one almost untouched because of the rice quality and test. Believe all the reviews that say they use leftover rice... the rice is terrible and inedible with a yellowish color, it's super hard to chew (which id never thought I'd say about rice). I only took one picture. The rolls presented were falling apart and each had varying degrees of fish and ingredients. We also couldn't order any ramen because they said they ran out of ingredients (noodles) that day. While there, (we arrived at 9) (they're supposed to close at 11) they turned away multiple people (lucky them) because they didn't have enough "stock" and shut down early. We were the last people left in the restaurant at 9:30 and it took almost an hour to get our food and we sat around waiting for this... then they all made it extremely obvious they wanted us to leave - a very uninviting atmosphere. She was very nice and understanding about what I wanted but I asked for ramen without jalapeño and it came with it. On top of it being over priced I have never ate such sad and disgusting ramen before but this one definitely does it. I would have rather get ramen from Walmart than to pay 21 dollars for that ramen. This place was awesome. Went in with tempered expectations and were blown away with the quality and creativity of their dishes and excellent service. Even on a busy Friday night they were able to seat us at the bar without a reservation. We played it safe with crab Rangoons as an appetizer, a couple tempura rolls, and a teriyaki salmon dinner. They knocked it out of the park with all of them. Add a pair of drinks and a bill just over $50 and I'd call that a successful date night. We will be back! read more

Finally got to try Omakase. I was really excited about going here. The decor, atmosphere, and downtown location are all amazing. Had a seat right in front by the window and I really liked that. I wanted to get some ramen. I've never had real ramen from a restaurant so this was my first time trying it. It was very good, I loved it. My partner had the beef teriyaki which he said was okay. I tried the fried rice and it was very good. The rainbow roll was very large and very good! My friend's & I decided to come here for a girl's night tonight on a Friday, to celebrate a couple birthday's. This review is lengthy, but I wanted to share my experience from the environment/ambiance, service & the food. I am just glad that I ate a little before I went. Otherwise, I would've had a hangry breakdown. My friend made reservations in advance for the 5 of us. I actually called them earlier this evening asking if they provide any sort of birthday dessert with candles, so I could surprise them, but the girl that answered said they have dessert, but nothing as far as putting candles on it for any celebrations, which was a bummer. One of my friend's & I arrived around the same time, so we walked in together. The host greeted us then I started to tell her I was here for a reservation under my friend's name, but she sort of cut me off & told us we could just walk back there as there was 1 of our friend's already here. Luckily this place isn't big at all, so we were able to find it easily. It is a very narrow & small place & it was packed this evening. Our table was so close to the window, we had to push it out a little more so we could be more comfortable. We noticed there was a gentleman, in a gray sweater that was going around to tables having small talk, greeting people & even helping out, by passing food or beverages to customers. Another thing we noticed about this ,was that he acknowledged pretty much everyone's table, but our group. Unsure of the reason, but was a little taken back by that. Our group took us a while to decide what to order as we were waiting for our last friend to arrive. So we went ahead & ordered some sake & a cocktail. This cocktail & sake's took some time coming out to us & really unsure why, I would say we were waiting a good 20 mins for them. My friend was not impressed with her cocktail, she ordered something with the name princess in it. The sake's we received came in pretty big glasses & I felt the cup given wasn't the appropriate cup bc our sake "bombs" didn't really turn out how it should've. At this point, we finally put in our food orders. 40 mins passes by & the only food items we received were my jalapeno bomb appetizer & my friend's Gyoza. I was not impressed with the jalapeno bomb, it lacked flavor & felt like it was missing something! Since this is the first food item I tried, I was just hoping the other items I ordered were going to taste better. I feel like we waited so long to where we were not feeling hungry anymore. I will not say her name on this post, but I felt our server could've been a little more attentive to our group. Even if we had to wait that long, she could've at least told us it was on the way or gave us an estimate, or something? I had to stop her as she passed by to finally ask. Come on now, this is nearly an hour coming up waiting on food. Acknowledge that we have been waiting & give us an update. She did not know when it was coming, so she checked & came back to me saying about 5 mins. The rest of the food finally came 5 mins later! 3 of us ordered the seaweed salad, but my 1 friend had to wait a bit to get hers, which was a odd. I ordered a side pork belly fried rice, extra spicy & I felt the size for the price was great. The pork belly was a decent amount, more would've been better, but I felt the rice tasted a bit too salty & the soy sauce over powdered any other flavors in it. The seaweed salad was awesome & so was the 815 roll! I did ask for more ginger, but it never came. I didn't want to bother, so luckily my friend's just gave me theirs. 1 of the girls sushi was bland, she pretty much did not touch any of it after the first one. 1 of the girl's ordered a dessert, the Japanese crepe. Now, she is a dessert guru, she cannot live a day without eating sweets. She did not like the crepe! She stated it was old, rubbery & leather textured! Overall, the ambiance & environment is not intimate as the noise level does get loud since it is such a tiny spot, but it was very nicely decorated. I feel the staff could use some work on acknowledgement better & be a bit more attentive. The food & presentation was good, not the best I've had, but good. 2 of my friend's had ramen & they did say it was good, besides the calamari being overcooked & had rubbery texture. I saw that the noodles resembled udon noodles. Since this has opened, I've been wanting to try it & was really hoping I could give it a great review to boost up the ratings. Incredibly rude and combative staff, especially the server. Their food preparation is extremely unhygienic, how else can you explain a pubic hair in the rice bowl? The server threatened and tried initiating a fight with a co-worker when she picked up the refund for the rice bowl. She went as far as walking out the door and started yelling obscenities while the owner was trying to hold her back in order to avoid his employee from assaulting my co-worker. This entire scenario was uncalled for and unacceptable, never have we had to deal with such ignorance. May I add that the owner/manager never apologized or said a word? (I wrote this e-mail to the restaurant, and it was kicked back so I felt it is necessary to post here to allow everyone to know what our specific experience was on the evening of August 14th, 2021). I don't give out single stars lightly. "Good morning, I believe you guys should be aware of the dinner we had at your establishment last night. Eight of us came in to have a corporate dinner, and we appreciated your ability to accommodate us on such short notice. After an evening of reflection I feel it would be absolutely disingenuous to not e-mail you the following information vs. sending this to you via social media. There were a number of issues with our dinner last night and all stem from flavor and freshness of the products you were serving. Dinner started off on a good note and set a lot of expectations of dinner. Both the stuffed avocados and the tuna tataki were excellent and delicious. Unfortunately, that was the only enjoyable part of the meal. To start off three people ordered your seafood ramen with no modifications. All three bowls came out tasting differently. There was an excessive amount of chili oil in two of the three, and one had little to no chili oil. The noodles were bland and overcooked. The calamari was cooked well but was absolutely flavorless. All the scallops were rancid, metallic and putrid, and were either pulled out or spit out. Each bowl had a different amount of items in it, with some having a lot of one item and only one of another with no consistency between them. The only saving grace of the bowls was the soft boiled egg and the fish which was well cooked and tasted good. All five sushi rolls were bland. The sushi rice was gummy and significantly under seasoned. The flavors had one note. The Mexican roll specifically was poor and the only flavor from that roll was the jalapeño. The lettuce used in the two Caribbean poke bowls was old and had turned. Along the same thread of the sushi rice above, the same could be said here. We did bring up one of the mistakes with one of the seafood ramens as it had spicy noodles added that weren't asked for and also had the heaviest addition of chili oil making it unpalatable for the gentleman who ordered it. The service was awesome. I'm a little disappointed because they were out of a few different alcohols to make some of the drinks on their menu. My food looked beautiful. I got the seaweed and kimchi bowl. My rice in it got a little soggy. I'm not sure if it was just because it was hot and then they put the other foods on top of it and the steam from the rice just got caught in the rice or if it was over sauced and just sat on the sauce too long. I was very disappointed in the flavor of my bowl. My fiancé ordered a chicken dish and he told me that his chicken was colder than his vegetables and that was a little confusing too. However, one thing I will say is that the server was very very knowledgeable on the restaurants, gluten-free options, and made sure that My dietary restrictions were communicated effectively with the kitchen. She knew what they needed to change in a dish before I even did that was really reassuring and she is seriously awesome. Here is my experience with Omakase. Location is in downtown Rockford. Since the past couple of years now, our previous mayor of Rockford focused on revitalizing the downtown business district. Most of the local businesses in the Rockford area channeled through this down town area, so now we have all new shops, restaurants, bars, and a new hotel. Giddy. Now let's cut to the chase, we are still in Rockford - so you still need to strap up wherever you go. Bring a couple extra magazines for the weapon of choice with you because the danger zone is west of the river, this restaurant is located on the east side of the river. Still gonna need it. Inside the restaurant looks nice, nice plates, silverware, glasses, nice wine display rack stocked full of $10 wine bottles you buy at a local grocery store... but they place a 150% price mark up so you're paying $25 for the bottle instead. It's nice they have the kitchen out in full display. Their caliber of kitchen equipment is commercial grade, but if they are at capacity - you best believe you will be waiting at least an hour and a half for your basic fried rice. I ordered the chicken ramen and my girlfriend ordered the hibachi steak with fried rice. We placed our order at noon, and we waited for 30 minutes for our food to come out. Just about enough time for me to map out all the exits in this joint in case of a drive by shooting happens. When the food finally arrived, my bowl of ramen looked okay... chunks of chicken breast with Udon noodles! It's not ramen noodles ... Broth tasted bland, and they loaded it up with jalapeños. I ate it all because I was hungry on my lunch break... it was alright. $15? Naw I can get it better paying $9 at the mom n pops pho shop on 7th street. I glanced over my girlfriends steak dish, the presentation looks good - but half of the steak was well done on the end, medium well in the middle, and raw at the end of steak. Called the waiter and had the kitchen redo her steak because she ordered it medium rare. 10 minutes later, the entire steak was translucent (raw). They took it back again and 5 minutes later, the steak is well done. Well that did it for her so she just returned the steak and kept the pork belly fried rice... while all that transpired, she ate her rice out of a Togo box. Arrived at 3 on a Saturday to a surly hostess unlocking the door at 3:05, apparently unaware we were here to spend our money on their food given her less than hospitable attitude and demeanor. Had 2 appetizers, seaweed salad and sashimi. Sashimi came out first, a half hour after ordering. The fish was god not great, pretty presentation. Appetizers took another 10 min and were ok. Jalapeño bomb was disappointing feels like they went across to taco Betty's and stuffed a jalapeño with someone else's leftover food. (Not nearly as good as taco Betty's not trying to insult!) Seaweed salad was as common as it could be. Husband's kimchee came out of a Costco sized jar. Also it's 95 degrees and no AC, front door is open. Come on already. We went here on a Thursday night and we're just about the only customers. We all ordered ramen. I liked the idea of it, but the regular level of heat still had me choking and making my nose run. I could barely eat it. The shrimp were definitely over cooked. I did have a cocktail that was very tasty, a cucumber lime sake drink. I tried this place when it first opened and didn't have a great experience. But like anywhere, I gave it a shot after it has been open a while. It's a lot of appearance and no substance. I wanted to like this place because I do think it fills a need for downtown Rockford, but the quality is not there. When you are surrounded by quality local fare, it has to be spot on (especially for the price). I don't like a lot of sauces or mayonnaise or anything else that overwhelms the fish. Usually pristine simplicity is why high-quality sushi is so good. Omakase keeps it simple, but the fish is of poor quality and cut. Not only was it fishy (tuna and salmon shouldn't be), but it tasted like it was defrosted in the microwave. The cuts were brutal, and the "marinated" fish was not at all marinated. I also hated how you can charge $15-20 a lunch plate, but have a grocery store plastic bin of defrosted frozen flying fish roe on display in the case! Every other element was not seasoned, the sushi rice wasn't tasty, and everything tasted like they put white rice I make at home (no sugar/vinegar). Good Japanese food is about the very delicate seasoning to showcase the beautiful ingredients in their delicious simplicity. Whats worse than covering up beautiful fish which tons of sauce? I don't even know where to begin. We just left the absolute worst sushi of our life. The sushi was cut wrong and jagged so the texture was all off and then the rolls fell apart as soon as you tried to pick them up. If you're going to serve sushi at least make sure your chefs can use a bamboo mat to make a roll. The drinks were just as awful, what was trying to be a creative infusion with soju just fell flat. Skip the appetizers because the restaurant does not serve chips with tuna tar tar, I mean what an easy thing to serve and a complete miss. Only to find out the prices went up and my order total would now be $29 and some odd change. Which I was still fine with seeing this is one of my favorite places to eat and I always order the same thing. The disappointment came when I got my food home only to find the jalapeno bombs are significantly smaller and I didn't receive any garnishes that come along with the 815 roll. Both soup had salted eggs as in don't eat it whole salty or you'll be looking for that water quick salty. My adult niece didn't eat their eggs, that's how salty it was. Seafood ramen? They need to rethink that soup. For $19, I expected more than what they give. They give you enough noodles to eat it 3x with your fork. That's how little it was. They give you half a chunk of bokchoy. I don't know how they really expect you to eat it like that without a knife? It didn't even look clean inside them. They need to cut the head and clean them separately. It'll be easier for customers to eat, too. Will I go back? No. They're conveniently located downtown so that a good thing for office workers there. I was excited that there's another sushi place but I was disappointed with the food. My niece rated it a 2.5 so I'm being generous with 3. Place looks nice but cramped.if you have more than 4 people, good luck. Props to our waitress. Love her! We tried to order a nice lunch for our office. Ended up paying over $200 and one of the orders had a hair in it. So we call. The server who answered the phone was rude and talking so loud, everyone in the room could hear off speaker. We asked to speak to the manager or owner, however they don't speak English... convenient!! We then asked to be refunded the amount of the order that had something extra we didn't want, she said she didn't make the food, and we would have to come down and get the refund, as no one was going to bring it to us..my coworker ended up going down to get the refund, brought the order and explained to the cashier that we were trying to get something resolved. Rudely in the middle of the conversation, another server came over and acknowledged it was her that she was talking to, and the server went off on her. The server did so much as to follow my coworker to her car-the owner had to pull her back to keep her from starting a fight with her. I can't say we've ever experienced such foolishness, especially from someone who is expecting...that's right!! The person who will suffer the most is her child...so unfortunate! You know, these things happen but how you fix and handle it is really what matters most....we paid a lot of money for our order and this is what we get?! Decent food aside from the frozen crab ragoons and extra "additive" we didn't request. But I think I'll steer clear just to avoid being disrespected by a server...such a shame!! read more

The drinks were inventine and tasty. The biggest reason for 4 stars, it took about an hour to get our food it was busy so its was somewhat understandable. Seems the kitchen needs more help. First trip review: We had House salad, Gyoza, Cucumber roll, Yellowtail roll, Veggie Ramen, Crepe. $53 with tip. Total time: 90 minutes. The sushi was better than average, my husband's favorite of everything we had was the Yellowtail. I really enjoyed the Gyoza as it was pan seared and steamed. The ginger dressing on the salad was refreshing. The Ramen was a bit of a problem. It came out very late and they forgot the tofu. So they took it back. It was not hot any more. The noodles were nice (may be fresh) but kinda thick for Ramen. The marinated mushrooms were delicious. Otherwise is was..eeh. If you want a more authentic Ramen there is a decent one at Shogun. You need to travel to Shaumberg for great Ramen (Currently fantasizing about miso butter corn ramen). The crepe was tasty. I am still a little hungry. I believe the kitchen problems and staff knowledge will improve with time. I feel like we had a healthy, good tasting meal that was way too much money and too much time. My bf and I were so excited to see a new place open in downtown! It took us far too long to try it out because every time we wanted to go it was a Sunday and it is closed Sundays. I ordered an avocado roll, fried rice with no egg, and veggie ramen with no egg. My bf ordered fried rice and steak ramen. We both LOVED it. Our favorite was the fried rice. The pork ramen was awful . no flavor and the noodles soggy, and whats up with the big corn on the cob sitting in the "soup". the roll was ok but tiny, and shashimi with no rice? top it off with a high price. The only reason i didn't give this place 5 stars is because of the wait we had for our sushi. We waited over 45 minutes for our food and it was 3 i the afternoon and there was only one other table. However, the whole environment is so clean and modern. Staff is so sweet and had so many recommendations no matter your food allergies or preference. We tried 4 different rolls and honestly, there wasn't one i didn't like. They had SO much flavor and were so delicious. The menu had a variety of different things to try besides sushi if that's just not your thing. I will come back because of the food, hopefully the wait was just a fluke because they are new. read more

It was one if the worst service I have ever I mean ever have had. Reservations at 6 didn't start getting food till 7 after I had to say to the waitress we are seeing fluffy and we need to go. We didn't get all of our food by 7 30 in which we than had to cancel those orders and ask "again" for the check. When she brought it to our table she hands them to us and says (it is what it is). What's even worse we find out Fluffy was there earlier and he probably got the best service ever. read more
