On the first day, they treated my son as if he belonged there already and on the second day we signed up for their One Year Program. My Son is So excited and said that he wants to become a Black belt and even if it takes him Ten years, he will get it... Opened in 1999, it is family owned and operated with an expansive set of connections within the martial arts community locally and internationally. It is a friendly and informative learning atmosphere with a Sensei who always attends directly to students growth. The instruction is tailored to each student, not to a dojo 'formula' or teaching method. We all are individuals and treated as such. Sensei Jonathan teaches all classes, and students routinely get one on one guidance. He maintains traditional GoJu Ryu karate values of courtesy and respect. There are regular on the mat in depth discussions as to the 'why's' behind what is taught. This greatly helps student's understanding of the meaning and connection between techniques. Sensei constantly educates himself, and this shows in the way he teaches students. He has a wealth of practical knowledge and teaches it well. Parents bring their children to attend classes; then join themselves.....what better reference can you get. The dojo is very conveniently located close to the QEW at Bronte, Lakeshore and Bronte Go Station in Oakville, with ample free parking. I highly recommend this dojo.

The kids do a slow dance that look something like a slow motion movie and end up learning nothing. Instructors are a mixed bag of people who know martial arts along with some who are just working their for a paycheck because the shop next door didn't have opening. At this point, I just pulled him out and paid significant portion of the remaining contract (and a lot of money, think of horror stories of gyms from a few year ago). Beware of signing this contract. IMO, look for dedicated and motivated instructors and schools if you really want your kid to learn martial arts. This unique brand could have been great and they were rather decent when they were introduced. After years of dedication and time spent trying for my kid to be good at something, all I have to show are checks written to them. Very disappointed.

The philosophy is such that the child's character and attitude in the dojo should be reflected in all areas of life - at home and at school. As a parent I sat and watched the class in the nice open dojo (not like some of the other dojos we visited where parents are kept behind glass, or worse - not allowed to watch at all!) and was really impressed with the varied, challenging, and fun exercises he was doing. The children's instructors at this dojo are really quite genius at getting the kids involved, keeping them engaged, and teaching respect and discipline. After a year we noticed a big difference in my son - he was more focused at home and at school (yes, even at only six years of age!) and he was always ready to go to karate. After watching on the sidelines for a couple years I finally decided it was time to join the dojo myself. I can tell you that this is not a McDojo. The head instructor, Sensei Tetsuji Nakamura, is the chief instructor of the International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karatedo Federation (I.O.G.K.F.) and holds a seventh degree black belt. Other instructors are similarly highly ranked and they have truly earned their positions. This is a place where you work hard to move up the ranks... don't expect a black belt in one year! However, it is also a friendly and welcoming place where there is a real sense of community. I have been a student at Shudokan for six years now and have loved every minute of it!

I was told they WOULD NOT cancel it and I would be a no show. I questioned why she wouldn't cancel it so someone could get that spot, the child only said it was policy!!!! My hernia became worse preventing me to go to Movati gym and months went by like that, I have 4 months of membership time left and I called them to freeze my membership because of the medical issues and they said they can't because of my membership (not compassionate at all when you have a genuine medical condition regardless the membership). I remember my family and friends never had issue freezing membership regardless what membership you have, one health and Goodlife are helpful in that. My membership with Movati will run out as it is, but I will cancel my family members month to month membership with this gym. If you are healthy and fit with no chance of medical issues then sure, but if you run into anything unexpected with your health Movati doesn't care of customers like that. I'll join Goodlife or One Health once I am healed after my operation. I do not recommend this gym due to the way they deal with customers with genuine reason, otherwise gym itself is good to go to. My 1 year membership I paid for $1175.88 gone to waste. Never going back to this gym ever again.
