Shortly after my first appointment, he diagnosed me with a septate uterus, which he repaired through surgery this summer, clearing the way for a successful first transfer 3 months before my 42nd birthday. From the beginning, Dr. Allen was confident we could conceive using my own eggs, and he was right. In addition to the little girl I'm carrying, we made 7 PGS normal embryos and one segmental mosaic, remarkable results given my age. At no point did I feel like I was receiving treatment from a "local clinic." Not only did we have better success than that advertised by some of the clinics renowned for treating women over 40, Dr. Allen followed a cutting edge protocol (including HGH). He was also willing to transfer my mosaic and even to try certain abnormals (after consultation with a geneticist) had we needed to do so, but since we only want one more baby, I am hopeful it won't come to that. We had our last appointment last week, at 14 weeks pregnant, and are sad to leave both Dr. Allen and his staff but overjoyed to be at this stage of pregnancy. And, of course, we will be back in a few years to try for a little brother.

After a nice initial consult and completing a mountain of testing (including genetics and an HSG at another facility), I was unable to get any information, discussion of results, or advice about next steps for treatment. I left many messages and voicemails. Once, when I asked for a follow up consultation with Dr. Allen I was told that it was "too soon" and that I should just call when I got my period (for what treatment? Unclear). The only call I ever received was from his nurse where I was prescribed a thyroid medication, even though my results were in the normal range. I later learned this protocol was based on old, disproven research. The medicine made me so sick and when I couldn't get Dr. Allen to discuss it with me, I just stopped taking it. In the end, we have had success with another fertility doctor in LA who has been responsive, communicative and shares our sense of urgency. Dr. Allen was none of those things.

They put me at ease and gave me some laughs along the way. After our first IVF transfer, we conceived and in April welcomed our beautiful Londyn Kate. We are so blessed to have been referred to SCRC. After waiting four weeks for my appointment, the receptionist told me they had to cancel because I was supposedly already a patient of another doctor there -- which isn't true. They don't respect your time and sent me countless emails without ever mentioning this issue. Years ago, I only spoke to the front desk twice but never saw a doctor due to health problems. I had been given an unexplained infertility diagnosis and I brought my medical files with me for the consultation. Despite several doctors and a years worth of tests he was able to give me a diagnosis in my results other doctors had missed after only a few minutes. IVF is a tough process on everyone, and I appreciated Dr Rychlik's compassion, humor, and availability. He uses all the best and latest science and gets the job done while also having a wonderful human sensibility. It's so rare to find a doctor highly skilled in both their medical practice and in the many difficult conversations that come with treating infertility. I highly recommend him, and wish I had come to see him sooner. If you are struggling with infertility you owe it to yourself to explore your options, and have the best chance.

They are kind, knowledgeable, and supportive, but the front office and administrative side has been consistently frustrating. The administrative staff is disorganized and unprofessional. They frequently mix up appointment times, give conflicting information, and make even simple tasks feel unnecessarily difficult. They don't use email or an online portal to send updates, test results, or appointment confirmations, which makes it almost impossible to keep track of anything. Everything has to be done by phone, and the communication is often curt or dismissive. Another major frustration is that any time I need bloodwork, I have to schedule a completely separate appointment with a third-party lab instead of being able to do it in-office. This makes routine prenatal care far more inconvenient than it needs to be. I really wanted to have a good experience here, especially since the clinical care from the midwives has been positive, but the front-office management has caused so much stress and confusion that I'm choosing to switch practices. I understand they may not be equipped with certain things to provide adequate safety for the patient during the procedure, but adding this to a very difficult and long process was extremely stressful and emotional. I hope the business sees this and takes this into consideration. Not only to do their job, look at the chart to see BMI AND make that call BEFORE the patient is all ready with an IV ready for surgery to start, but maybe start emailing patients instructions on how to take a photo of their anatomy that they can then send back to have the anesthesiologist make their final decision. It's done by other facilities, not all, but it's a great idea. Giving it a 2 because the nurse was great. But the ball was dropped somewhere with the other staff. If there is a policy regarding BMI, that information would be in the patient's chart when scheduling the procedure, and should have been caught prior to, and extra steps should have been taken, such as a photo.
