It's become a tradition that my sister and I visit here at least once a year when I'm in town. We…read morebrowse , buy too many books, and get a tasty beverage. The drink wait is long but there is only one barista and the drinks are pretty involved so it's understandable. I hesitate to call some of the coffee since my very favorite is the "FRAPPE that must not be named" (LOL) and it's straight up a chocolate milkshake with a shot of espresso. Hint: if you are caffeine intolerant like me, they can make it decaf!!! Now for the books...they truly have a wonderful selection. And I'm not sure who does their displays but they are very talented and funny. I really enjoy walking around and finding new books. Of course, my absolute favorite section is the bargain area...Such good deals! My sister is part of their millionaire club so when we go to check out, I let her buy mine as well (I venmo her :)) The last two times we've gone, the cashier has reminded us about the online coupons and help us naviagate their website to save us some money. VERY nice of them. This last time my sister and I got 3 books each for a little over $40! I was also very happy to see a lot of people in this store, we should all frequent brick and mortar stores more often. This whole shopping center is nice with lots of fun stores. Easy to spend the day shopping here.

My sister brought me here when I came into WR to visit family. This place was so awesome! It's in a…read morehuge old bank and it's filled to the brim (2 stories) of books and other neat items. Seriously the coolest bookstore I've been to in awhile! (You can peruse books in the old bank vault!) I bought some thank you cards (religious, 8 for cheap!), a new book, and a used book. I thought the used book prices were a bit high but every single one I saw was in excellent, like-new condition so I guess that's reasonable. And the new book I bought was on sale so I felt like I was getting a good deal there as well. I think you can park in the front and the back of the store. There is a stair case and an elevator. The staff was SUPER nice and very helpful. I very much enjoyed my experience here!

This is a 2 story book store that's located in an old bank building. They have a large selection of…read morebooks on both levels. They also have a few other things like games, toys and various gadgets. The prices seem reasonable and they had competitive prices to Amazon. The workers were very nice and attentive and answered all of my questions. It's pretty cool that you can trade in books for store credit. We traded in a bunch of books and received $100 credit. The use of the credits is a strange system. You can only use store credits on used books and then you can only use the credits for 50% of the price of the book. So for example if your book costs $10, you have to pay $5 out of pocket and you can use $5 in store credits. The books are very well organized but I didn't like that they mixed new and used books instead of having separate sections for each. Overall good experience. I'll be back to spend my credits.

The Book Tavern had that wonderful afternoon hum today, the kind that tells you a bookstore isn't…read morejust surviving but actually thriving. It was busy in the best possible way: people drifting between shelves with purpose, a small line forming at the register, and an author set up at a front table signing books while chatting with readers. Moments like that feel like a quiet victory for local culture, a reminder that #LocalBooks still matter and that Augusta shows up for them. I lingered longer than I meant to because the browsing here pulls you in. The front tables were stacked with new releases and staff picks, and the red dot discount display added that little spark of treasure‑hunt energy. The range of subjects is part of what makes the place feel so alive. Politics and gender identity sit alongside fiction and romance, sci fi and fantasy, table games, cookbooks, and a genuinely thoughtful section on Augusta history. It's the kind of curation that reflects a community rather than a trend algorithm. And of course, there's the upstairs. It's one of the shop's best features. Quieter, a little more contemplative, with shelves that reward slow wandering. A busy bookstore on a weekend afternoon is a small civic joy. The Book Tavern manages to feel both rooted and evolving, a place where Augusta's literary life gathers itself and keeps going. [Review 212 of 2026 - 913 in Georgia - 25401 overall]

On going in we found a beautiful bookstore that has a lot of Southern charm. The bookstore itself is laid out really nicely with books lined all the way too the top. There is also an upstairs section with a kids reading nook area. We didn't find the book we were looking for, but we still found a book. Checkout was fast and friendly, wish that I had pickedup a souveneir sticker on my way out - but maybe next time!

3.10.20: Independent book stores surviving & thriving! I was thrilled to pop into Macon's Gottwal's…read moreBooks right before they closed & totally blown away by their inventory: books of all genres as well as charming childrens' and gifts' sections. Their local authors section is extensive as well. And of course the sight of baptismal & choir robes in a book store? Intrigued me immensely. Huh?! Gottwal's merged with a local Christian bookstore so they just happen to carry all your religious paraphernalia... I inquired about their local author book presentations and they informed me that the woman in charge of that works at their original store in Warner Robins. Yay! That's where I grew up. I had no clue that the first Gottwal's originated there & is in the old C & S Bank building, of all places, b/c we used to use that bank, back in the day. A few days later, I trekked down to Warner Robins location to see what I could see. This location is two stories & is filled to the brim with all kinds of titles, games, gifts, etc. Thank you to Macon staff who provided me with comprehensive info even though I got there 15 minutes before closing! Rather than trying to rush me out, they were hospitable & kind, no doubt appreciating another bibliophile. I hope people continue patronizing local businesses, especially book stores, versus always ordering from Amazon out there. Local businesses create & support community & we need more of that, imo.
