We were able to come to this winery through our tour for Monserrate. It is a local winery, family owned. Prior to our tasting, we were able to tour part of the grounds which provided a rich history with gorgeous views. While the weather was very hot, we were still able to take in the beauty. Our actual wine tasting was in the pretty cellar really setting the mood. It felt intimate and historic. The wines were delicious. Our tour guide chose a variety of wine types and explained how different types of grapes create the flavor profiles. The information provided for each wine was thorough and interesting. After our wine tasting, we were able to go to the patio and taste any wine we desired. The patio had fans and mist which helped keep us cool under the beating sun. I want to add a little disclaimer, though. We came here as part of a tour which I highly recommend doing. I do not know the extensive experience of those who went independently or how accessible the winery is without a tour. Also, I am not sure how much access or if one is able to get a complete wine tasting without a tour. It is something to look into if you are interested, but there are various tours you can partake in and get (i think) a richer experience. I highly recommend it if you are in Barcelona.

Look up this to on Viator (a Trip Advisory company). Oller del Mas winery is s boutique winery that produces less than 200 bottles annually. The winery tour and wine tasting with lunch was great. We was served cold tomato bisque soup, duck on a bed of mashed potatoes, and Crema Catalana for dessert. Red wine was served with our meal. The weather was warm. So the cold tomato bisque soup was refreshing. The soup was mild but tasty. The duck was very tender and the mashed potatoes was light, not heavy. The Crema Catalana was excellent. Not too sweet or heavy. The tour was excellent. I highly recommend paying a visit to this winery.

Came as part of a bus tour to Montserrat. The food was good as was the wine. A good experience.

The Pla de Bages DO is the smallest wine region in Spain. Located wholly within the Province of Barcelona, the region is situated south of Montserrat at the base of the mountain. Therefore most trips into the region will usually be as a supplement to a trip to Montserrat as the region's wine isn't well-known internationally to stand on its own. Oller del Mas is a castle dating from the 10th century. Nowadays it is a prominent organic wine producer. All grapes used for the wines are 100% grown in the vineyard, no chemicals are used in the maintenance of the vines and all grapes are picked by hand. International varietals are grown alongside local Spanish grapes and the wine's portfolio contains either a blend of local and international varietals or exclusively 100% local. I was introduced to this winery as it was the back half of a full-day itinerary package offered from Castlexperience Wine Tours, which also includes a half-day trip to Montserrat. It seems like a lot of people who visit this winery are also other Castlexperience tour groups as the dining tables are spread out communally for the people doing lunch and I didn't see many visitors not exploring this winery on their own. Lunch was included as part of the package. It included a salad, patatas bravas, canelones and a variation of panna cotta with raspberry sauce drizzled on top. This was the worst meal of my week-long Barcelona trip as I considered this meal "average". I was uninspired by any of the dishes and the canelone made me feel a bit bloated. There was also a carafe of wine to share for the table, which would've been good as "house wine". After lunch we had a brief tour of the winery and led into another room where the Castlexperience tour guide (and not a representative from the winery) conducted the entire wine tasting experience. I found that to be a little weird as not even one time an employee would come to our group and ask about our experience. I remember that I had a white and two reds but all were so average that I don't even remember what I had. The pours were decent. Even after finishing we walked into a reserve cellar with a wine on display but no option to sample any reserve wine even if you were seriously thinking about buying any wine from their collection. The entire experience felt a bit rushed and I didn't even get time to think about what wine to buy to bring back to the US. Granted that Pla de Bages DO isn't as well-known as Napa Valley AVA or Chianti Classico DOCG I'm not expecting the wines to "knock my socks off". However the experience could've been better in terms of the quality of the food or even a little effort to make their guests feel more welcome by having a winery employee personally giving a brief introduction of the winery. Those little details can make or break a wine tasting experience.

I am really not a tour person. That said, Oller and the wines they produce was a real treat on our Get Your Guide Montserrat and vineyard day tour with the wonderful Aurora. The attached restaurant was really nothing to write home about. I can't complain because the tour, lunch, and tasting was a great value altogether but I couldn't help but notice that other tables seem to be getting superior quality food. Now, that might just be a case of "grass is greener" syndrome on my part but I would not come here on my own to eat. The wine, however, is excellent and it was lovely to walk around the castle and the grounds. Unfortunately, because we came in wintertime, the vines were all sleeping but I can only imagine how beautiful it must be in the summer or fall with Monserrat looming in the background. We got to taste three wines in the Castle cellar and ended up taking one back with us. Samso Picapoll, A delicate and fruity red with undertones of chocolate and Christmas spices. Absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, they don't sell it in the states yet so I will have to see about ordering a case.

Awesome Castle Winery.

Montserrat and Castle Winery Tour provided by Castle Experience Tours-so worth it!! Paid for the tour online and met the tour guides at the Plaza de Catalunya around 7:45am. Tour size was around 7 people and our guide, Xavi, was very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Went by bus to Montserrat and it took about an hour and a half. Xavi gave us a great tour of the outside and we had plenty of time to ask questions. We had about 15 minutes inside the church and were extremely awed and inspired. I didn't take pictures inside because I find it disrespectful to take pictures inside churches so used my mental camera!! :-) Afterwards we had about 5 minutes to visit with the food vendors outside and I was able to buy some great goat cheese. After that, we got on the bus and went to the Oller Del Mas Castle for a wine tour that included some history of the castle (it has been in the same family for 10 generations). We then went inside and had a wine tasting class that included 4 wines made at the winery with montaditos. The wine was superb and I was able to buy a bottle using a credit card. A great tour!!

Ended up here as part of a wine tour that included mount Montserrat. Initially I thought It was a great deal for $114 USD. But it was the old bait and switch. What promised to be a wine tour was lunch with two glasses of crappy wine and a "wine tasting" with small pours of their finest ... oops I mean cheapest wines. So in all I had about 3.5 glasses total for $114.. but they kept encouraging you to order more wine. At your own expense of course. We were rushed thru mount Montserrat, so much so that when I walked up to the group at 1:23 instead of 1:20, the guide got on to me.. excuse me for sight seeing.. making things worse. After being rushed thru the beautiful basilica, we sat at a lunch table for almost 2 hours.. I guess they slow played it so we could buy wine. Totally not worth it. Go see the basilica and skip the bad wine. Just to be fair, they make good wine at this winery. We just had to buy it.

Although I'm not a wine drinker, I enjoyed the tour very much. Hey, can I say, I love grapes? That's a good excuse, right! Learning how the grapes I love is turned into the wine, that I don't have a taste for, is quite fascinating! But cut me some slack...I was polite, I did sip some wine during the tasting. And the verdict.....still don't like wine! Hahaaa! Lunch at the winery was superb! The salad and appetizers were great! The cod dish was delicious! The cuttlefish I had was good, although I would prefer them more crispy. I heard the pork cheeks and sausage and beans were amazing! Overall this was a great tour! Only made possible by the tour guides at Viatours!

We could see it off in the distance from the property. Apparently, the salt air, cool breeze, and limestone soil creates a microclimate that adds to (or enhances) certain grape ripening characteristics. This is especially good for cava making, as we learned the last time we visited the upper part of this region. What we didn't know was how it affected wine and vinegar. We were about to find out. We were greeted by Marco who gave us a very extensive tour of their wine making facilities. We learned so much from this. What made it even more interesting was the wine vinegar tasting part of it. I know most people are familiar with the old expression about turning wine to vinegar. But, it's really not that simple. We entered the oak barrel lined building where the aging process was taking place. This is where we sampled 4 different types of balsamic made from their chardonnay, merlot, and cabernet sauvignon wines. He also treated us to a sample of the 30 year Antigues Reserves which was my absolute favorite of the 4. It's definitely one to be put away for very special occasions due to its price tag. I later found out that many famous chefs use this brand for cooking. I can totally see why. So, I was even more blown away during our wine tasting and lunch experience. The restaurant is on-site in the middle of one of their vineyards. There's indoor and outdoor seating. As a group, we were seated at a large table indoors. I won't go into any more detail. I'll just say that we loved every single dish, as well as the great service. I was also quite surprised to find a Chardonnay that I actually love. I don't know. Maybe it really does have something to do with the type of barrel. Their wines are fermented in oak barrels from the Nevers region of France. I know I'll be looking for this in the future when shopping for wine. My only regret is that I didn't purchase anything that day. It's not readily available in the states. However, I did find the vinegar set online at a sustainable gourmet shop in Tacoma. I've been enjoying it as a vinaigrette, and will eventually use some of the online Avgvstvs Forvm recipes as a reference. There's so much I want to say. Why is it named after the Via Augusta? What happened to the vineyards in Europe during the Great French Wine Blight? You'll just have to read all about it (or take the tour). It was a beautiful and memorable day!!

Our tour group stopped here on the way from Valencia (and Peniscola) to Barcelona. I loved this…read moreplace- and I have the purchases to prove it. First, lots of great bathrooms- which is nice. Second, great tour. We learned about the terroir- the soil, the atmosphere, how the cover crops help with the soil. The biodynamic principals of the winery mean they not only are organic, and use organic manure and special herbs in their compost (as well as cattle horns) but they also plant, and trim vines and harvest according to the phases of the moon. We tasted a cava, a white called cosmic- 10 euros, a red called Indigena (2013)- 10 Euros, and a red called Mas Irene (2014)- 16 Euros. They were all delicious. But I ALSO tried Music- a white dessert wine, with lots of honey notes, and raisin, but not syrupy at all- it was so good (21.50 euros) that I bought 2 bottles of that, 1 of Indigena, and 4 bottles of honey (5 euros each)- and they said the honey was from their own hives and was rosemary honey. It was very good. You can try it if you ask. Their olive oil is also fabulous- but you've got limits on how much you can carry home, so I had to pace myself. For the tasting we were given crackers and cheese and sliced sausage. We also got some bread to dip in the olive oil at the end of the tasting. The tasting room is lovely, and there is a gorgeous outdoor seating area. The story of the family is fascinating, and if you are in Spain, and you have the chance to go here- take it! I'm from the SF Bay Area like the other reviewer, and I'm a member of many wineries and I've worked at the wineries as a pourer (because who doesn't want to be paid in wine?) And I loved this place. I thought it might be too much of the same thing- that I'm used to at home, but not at all. If you are disabled, you will NOT be able to go to the cava caves via the steps. I'm mildly disabled and I opted not to do them- a lot of rather dark, narrow steps.

This was my first visit to a European winery so I didn't know what to expect. Pares Malta is an old family-run winery that specializes in Cava (sparkling wine), using organic farming and the process of biodynamics. They make their own compost and rely on natural methods of pest control. To help time harvesting vs planting the tour guide mentioned using the moon and stars (!?). The tour itself was educational and fascinating - from previewing their wines, visiting the fields, composting area, barrel storage, cellars, and finally the tasting room! We tasted a white cava, a rose, and then a red wine. Pairings went with crackers, Machego Cheese, or dried salami. We also sampled their olive oil. Our gorgeous wine host gave lots of tips on serving wine and meals. She mentioned a very good snack is to dip bread in high-quality EVOO, add salt, and then grated dark chocolate. A strange combination but I'm willing to try it!
