Maumee Bay Brewing Company / Oliver House We arrived on Saturday for lunch on our way into town for a visit. This was always one of my favorite spots and I appreciate the variety of establishments available and wanted to include this on my small tour of Toledo. I positioned our stop at the top of the list after a quick tour of downtown and before a visit to the Libbey Glass Outlet and the Toledo Museum of Art. The Oliver House is a historical building with a view of the Maumee River in downtown Toledo. When commissioned by Major William Oliver, renowned architect Isaiah Rogers designed a first class modern hotel and located the building in the section of downtown referred to as the "Middlegrounds". The address is 27 Broadway St., Toledo, Ohio and it is the last remaining hotel standing designed by the architect. Our lunch: combo 1/2 salad with quiche and 1/2 salad with chicken salad sandwich. $11.95 for 2- choice combo. Parking: ample - street parking, parking immediately around the building and a parking lot across the street Service: very good, friendly, efficient, attentive Menu: I will always miss the mussels; but there are still some favorites available on the menu. read more

My wife and I decided to get married in six weeks and surprise our guests with it. The Oliver House was our first choice in our venue and they had our date open. It was like it was meant to be. Everyone found out the surprise accidently a week prior to the wedding thanks to The Toledo Blade but the staff here would have kept the secret for us otherwise. You honestly couldn't ask for a better venue in the area. Full of history and charm. Then you have the amazing staff there that truly go above and beyond. We only had 30 guests for our wedding and the staff made sure everyone was taken care of. Food was delicious, hot, and all had unique flavors. Which doesn't always happen group dining options. The Oliver House is where I got to marry the love of my life, and it will always hold a special place in our hearts. Will be dining here for many years to come. read more

Was seated fairly quickly, 10 minutes later waitress came to table , we ordered drinks and food right away. Waitress disappeared, so after waiting 15 minutes I saw our drinks sitting at bar. I finally just went up and grabbed them. The restaurant was only slightly busy as it was after 8 pm when we were seated. 45 minutes later , after other people were seated and served with food and beverages our waitress came back to table to tell us the kitchen was swamped and our food would be at least another 20 minutes. I ordered a perch sandwich and my husband ordered a pizza. We finally got food an hour and a half later at 9:30 pm. My husbands pizza was burnt and dry , my fish was burnt so bad there was no meat left in it. Very disappointed. Not sure what was going on there but won't be back. read more

Yet another shot out to my Yelp buddy, Mike P. While I was in Toledo Mike said he'd grab a pint and some grub w/me. He suggested the Oliver House. So I met up with him at the Maumee Brewing Co. Wow! Cool place and a great pick on his part. The beer was good and the food was epic. I couldn't even finish my burger. So that became lunch the next day. I told the wife that I'm taking her there the next time we're in Toledo. Very, Very cool place. Next time I'll check out the other places in the Oliver House too. read more

Fantastic food, fantastic service. Last time I went I had the French dip sandwich with aus jus, oh lord it was so good. Probably one of the best I've ever had besides my parents homemade roast beef. My boyfriend always gets one of their burgers and he loves them, he always wants to venture out and get another item but doesn't want to miss out on the burger! Oliver House - French dip sandwich with aus jus - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Toledo, Ohio

Unfortunately this place did not live up to it's reputation. We heard their pizza was amazing....but we were disappointed. Not only was the pizza not great, but they were out of everything when we were there. It almost became funny because everything we would order the waitress said "oh sorry we are out." When my brother tried to buy a souvenir T-shirt and a case of the beer they sell....guess what...they were out. The building was really big, theres a seperate bar area and the whole place was empty. We were literally the only people there. The only good thing about this place is their giant pretzel appetizer. You need at least four people to share! Try the beer sauce that comes with it...it is delicious. I don't drink and I loved it. (it doesn't taste like beer lol) read more

Went here twice in two days recently. First time I had the duck wings which came highly recommended as per Yelp. They were good and Asian inspired, but too salty. Seems the soya sauce got away from the chef, and I believe an experienced chef would have trialed this seasoning before serving (?). The beers at the upstairs restaurant were excellent however. The next day we went to the cafe downstairs. I ordered the Cafe Burger which was excellent. The fries too were very good (nice n crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside.) Great meal. Interesting restaurant(s). Will return here when back in the Toledo area. read more

Food and service in the tavern is always good. I'm not a beer drinker but am told by my friends who are their craft beer is great and they make a lot of in house. Their vodka they make at their distillery is really good and they have a good martini and other drink menu if you don't like beer. Their chicken sandwich is great and I love their homemade chips. Reasonable prices for downtown and plenty of parking. Pizza is pretty good also as are the large pretzels. I'm glad they are open on Sunday's now. They have a generous reward program as well that is good in all their restaurants. read more

Oliver House has different restaurants, this review is for "The Cafe". The environment up front was cozy lively and nice. But we had to sit in the back. It was OK but not as cozy as the front. The menu is pretty basic but it is a bar style restaurant so this would be expected. The food quality was pretty good but we waited so long for it. They also did not give ketchup. The waitress was fairly personable but not overly friendly. She was working the bakery and serving. I am not sure she usually does this or not but the wait was ridiculously long. Over all an OK place but a miss on service, at least this time. read more

I attended a wedding rehearsal dinner here over the weekend and what a great venue for a private party. I can't speak to the pricing, the house brews, or the hosted restaurants, but if you're hosting a holiday party or other private event, I would recommend this place. We had the circular room on the ground level towards the rear of the building. There was a 2-course meal catered and a private bar tender. The staff was very friendly and the building itself is very rustic. We were probably reaching the capacity of the room with our party of 53, also there was a huge column in the middle of the room that wasn't conducive to speakers, but otherwise it was good. This is a great place in all regards. The location is great, right in downtown and surrounded by historic buildings and roads. When you walk upstairs you see right where the beer is made. The food is awesome. You must get the giant pretzel! I had the summer stinger beer. Really good. Give this place a go. read more

I haven't had a bad experience here till now, thought about giving 2 stars but I can bring myself to do it since I got bad service. I ordered take out and the girl who answered the phone couldn't answer questions and didn't know what was even on the menu. I spend $30.00 on take out. I walk in and the place isn't busy. I go to the bar and wait for a few minutes. The bartender sure does pour drinks fast, so if u want to drink and don't care about food or customer service this is the spot for you. I wait a few for the bartender to help me , she checks on my order and it isn't ready. I called in the order , 40 minutes before I got there so I was confused as to why it wasn't ready, no apology for my waiting or any other acknowledgement, and again the bartender pours drink quickly, but doesn't offer me a water or soda while I wait for my food. This was disappointing to me, I am a paying customer who chose to spend $30.00 here, an apology or even a conversation would have been nice. And again, the guys drinking at the bar were catered to...don't know that I want to go back... read more

The Oliver House is a really cool, historic building in Toledo, right on the river. I was amazed to hear the story of the building...from hotel to several factories to a social gathering place, it's had quite a marked history. We have dined at both Maumee Bay Brew Co and Rockwell's restaurant. We had our "after party" of our wedding in Rockwell's lounge. I'd love to try Mutz and The Cafe. This is a nice place to go for an event, to take out of town guests, or "just because." It's really a gem! read more

This review is specifically about a new business in the Oliver House: Middle Grounds beer and wine shop. This is a beautiful shop, everything carefully displayed. The proprietor, Matt Snyder, will greet you as a friend and give you any help you need with your selection, or allow you to browse at will. He is a wealth of knowledge about beers and wines, however so I encourage anyone to listen to his recommendations. read more

The Oliver house is set in a unique atmosphere but it's not worth the price of admission. Our party was in the private room but this certainly does not equate to adequate service. First - after a half hour of waiting I flagged down a waitress to order a drink... it was almost like I was bothering her to spend money. Second - the menu. $60 for my 14oz NY Strip (with no sides, salad, or soup) is ridiculous. Don't waste your time, go to Mancy's in Toledo for a top notch steak meal. My wife and my mother both ordered the Lobster Mac&Cheese (which they should call the "find the lobster if you can Mac&Cheese"). Literally, I thought they might be bringing another dish with the lobster. It was $25 dollars for a bowl of Mac and a piece of lobster the size of a wine cork. I was actually laughing out loud. If you want a normal baked potato its $7. Needless to say I passed on the sides. Third - The waitress never came back around to ask how the food was... or refill water... or take another drink order. The service was seriously sub par. All in all a disappointing experience, like I said there are much better places to eat around Toledo for less than half the price. read more

I'm at the Pub at Oliver House on a Saturday evening. When my wife and I arrived ay 6:00pm we were told there was a 50 minute wait to be seated. 75 minutes later we were seated. We each ordered a burger and fries. 75 minutes later we were still waiting for food. read more

Very, very slow service. Three members of our party did not even receive their food. Used to be a nice place to go. Would not recommend.

THE worst prime rib we have ever had! Three out of four wre un-eatable. Tough, over done. We had to leave it on the plate.

Went to Rockwell'slast night. While yelp showed as moderate prices, the price point was as high as a Mortons. Food was excellent and great service. Just be prepared for price point! read more

I went there for a rehearsal dinner a few weeks ago and i was never so disappointed in my life. We were in a private room where everyone was up and talking in the beginning but when the food came...it was buffet style....it wasn't set up all at the same time. The salad came out after about half of the people went through the line. After i made my plate there was no place for me to sit. There were 4 round tables and not an available seat at one of them. I was so embarrassed. Holding my plate looking around for someplace to eat looking ridiculous. I didn't want to burden the bride our the groom so i walked out to the bar and ordered a drink which was $5....not a big deal. Once i went back in to the private room a while later i ordered the same drink from the waitresses in the room. We received our bills for the drinks at the end of the evening and my drink was $7. It was the same drink i ordered 50 feet from there for $5. I hope next time if someone books a party there and they say there is going to be 20 people there you have seating for 25 just in case. Needless to say i will never recommend this place and never go there again. I left hungry and perplexed about the drink issue. read more
